I tried the zigzag with your suggestion but he was really struggling. Knowing that he was scheduled for a massage I didn’t push him and gave him a little time off until after his massage. Turned out he had a few really tight muscles. They all released but wanted to give him an extra day before working the Jumps again. Then…He slipped on some ice, so a couple more days to rest. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Finally got some work in. He got through them. I’m just wondering if I flattened them out too soon? In some ways he looks like he’s struggling. Is it possible that a dog never gets to a very flat line?

    Also did some plank work.

Makes sense. I’ll give it a try.
    Thanks!!

Haven’t recorded anything with the plank yet this week. Been trying to figure out his zigzag work. He does good when I’ve got the jumps relatively open, but when I try to flatten them out, he struggles and takes an extra step. I’ve tried changing the middle jump to 4 foot instead of 5 but that doesn’t seem to help any. I only recorded with him going “left”, but he does the same if I set him up to go “right”. HELP!

and of course the side view where it’s easier to see his extra steps …

I don’t have the jumps totally flat yet, but it’s close. I think one more session and then I can add the third jump. What do you think??

    Here’s the side view.

Not sure I’ve got the treat dish in the right location, but I feel like his mechanics are good.

I thought he did pretty good with his plank work. Need to figure out my timing on the sit command. A couple times he was VERY responsive. LOL

I adjusted his set up location on the zig zag and after I did them I realized I used a 5’ bar instead of 4’. Should i try the 4’ before I flatten the jumps?

(These are the same zigzag drills, just filmed from a different angle)

Howdy! Added some distance on the lead with the head. Seems to me that he’s definitely got his head down and turned anticipating that treat toss. What do you think?

Oh my gosh … I know I make “distractions” on the course when I’m running, but it’s almost hard to do purposely do it! LOL. I’ve got the jump set at 14″. (He normally jumps 20″)

I moved to the “take-off” side of the wing next to the plank. After watching the video I know I need to lower the treat a bit. Too high and it puts him off balance and slips off the plank. I also need to take that breath and make sure he’s fully on the plank before rewarding. Anything else you see??

I added a wing to get more speed. Overall I think HE did good … same problems for me. LOL

Marshal came home from his hunting weekend in one piece and with no holes! (And he found lots of birds!)

Back to jump training. All your suggestions make sense. Thanks for the feedback.

I started today with some Lead with the Head. I did better with my handling/rewarding.

Did the zigzag on flat with 4’ and 3’ spacing. He did much better than I expected. A few times he was really looking straight ahead instead of at me, yet he still serped the wings.

Then I added 4’ bars, set at 6” high. I didn’t notice it when I was doing the exercise, but on the video I hear his nails ticking the bar. I assume he’s just too close and I should just set him back just a little bit. ???

    Thanks Tracy!

Was limited on time today and with Marshal going off on a hunting weekend I wanted to try the zig zag and the plank next to the wing. I know it’s not recommended doing both on the same day, but I figured this would be the one time I could get away with it since there is no actual jumping involved, and I promise I kept each exercise short.

Started with the zig zag, with wings 10 feet apart. He seemed to understand what he needed to do, so I moved the wings to about 6 feet apart. With each try I adjusted from facing him to facing away from him. Anything I should do different?

Worked the platform a bit more, standing up, instead of sitting, as you suggested. Still a little trouble, but my ahah moment was when I took half a step back giving him a bit more room to get on the platform.

On to the plank next to the wing. Not sure I’m rewarding correctly, but he seemed to do an okay job with his sits. Anything I should change?
    Wing on left.

    Wing on right.
