Threadles, I think. For some reason I had a difficult time figuring out what I was supposed to be doing…Also, another guest appearance!

This week features some challenges and a special guest appearance!

First up: back side. Why is she sometimes wrapping the *entire* jump and wings?

    Rocking Horse
Ria has had a stressful week for some reason, so this is the only agility exercise that we’ve done so far. Any ideas what the random barks here and there are about? While you can’t see my face, could it be that we didn’t have our “Hallmark moment” and she’s letting me know that she’s not sure what’s next?

Gotta do what I have to in a small space! 🤣

I decided to give this a go outside in the small “private” area of the dog park next to my building. The result was a little less than optimal. Getting her to take food outside is challenging so I tried doing this with a ball and a tug. She thought that we were playing fetch/chasing balls, and I had a difficult time getting her to even notice the uprights. Getting her into position to even go through the uprights was also difficult. When she did commit to it, though, it went well.

Not sure if it’s too late to do a follow-up for this one. She still is having trouble backing up. Even with a mat that’s 2′ x 4′, she still seems to be actively avoiding it. Should I go for the channel method again or go for an even bigger target?

Rotated sends. This seems to need more work. She has the idea correct, but she doesn’t always go around the correct way.

Parallel sends through uprights. She seems committed, I think.

Retrieve shaping. Ria doesn’t quite understand moving the object to me rather than just picking it up and moving it anywhere. Still working on it. There’s a very sped up initial shaping and then where we currently are. Out of curiosity, Ria has had literally thousands of opportunities to chase balls and loves doing it. She has started to bring the balls closer to me when she picks them up but hasn’t come all of the way back yet. Should I do something about this while working on retrieve?

I tried these wraps on a wing…but I think that I confused my send cues…

Ria seems to love the tunnel! Any tips on how to get her to NOT go through the tunnel! 🤣

    Lap and Tandem Turns
I’m really not so sure about my mechanics on this one. Also in some of these, Ria is kind of far away from me.

What’s the best way to spend Christmas Eve in isolation other than to train your dog in agility?!

She’s definitely a more toy/ball motivated dog than food motivated, though I have improved the food motivation a bit by ditching the bowl. I’ll try toys here!
