Convergeance. I was a little nervous of this at first. Not sure why, but I procrastinated. Amongst other things … I’m too far away from the jumps, laterally, aren’t I? This is a common thread for me.

Here I started the threadle cue. I did it with my Near-side arm down, palm facing her. I was really surprised at her understanding. Then I reviewed my video. I was uncomfortable bc with wilson I threadle with my opposite arm. Decided to abort that move, and stick with what my body already does. Here are my first two reps, then I re-recorded with the opposite arm.

Where do I go from here? Do I increase the angle and add motion? Or do I play with the serp and work on discrimination between those cues.

    Thanks!

When I watched again …..poor Wilson! When I mess up and turn away, I am not in angry mode, I am in thinking mode. But he doesn’t know that!! He is such a good guy – he will do anything to please me. I will make sure I never make him feel that way again. 😔. Thank you.

These novice courses required a bit of creativity. My yard has become smaller, but will ultimately be much bigger. 😀. I also have very limited equipment. I need to reduce the size of the course, but I did the best with what I had…

I obviously struggled on course #3. First it was trying to decide the best way to get to and complete the last line. I had a 2am aha moment, when I realized I could have helped both dogs much more if I had had wings on that jump. Wilson especially struggled. Despite the fact that he hung with me for way too long, I got frustrated and had to walk away for a minute. When I came back he nailed it! Murphy’s law.

Here are the last 2 novice sequences. I’m a bit annoyed at the last course video. Somehow it managed to cut off the end of my walk and my entire run with Demi! Dammit! I think it was because my phone rang at some point, and it also rings into my iPad. Maybe that shut it off? I’m not sure, but now you get only my master dog running a novice sequence. And Demi did better! Ugh … technology!

I love this unit!! So necessary for me.

As I sit here critiquing my video, I think I should have identified the line from 7 to the tunnel better. That way I would have a better idea of where the cross should happen, right? My concern with that is, the FC probably could have happened on the line and closer to the tunnel. However, I don’t trust Demi’s commitment skills to let me move away like that. Demi, however, seemed to read it better than Wilson. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wish I had had my MM with me for the threadles. Seeing a ball on the ground turned the impulse control function off.

On the backside she was slicing, I think because we just finished the serps. I tried to readjust to get a perpendicular exit.

Should these skills be practiced back-to-back as we did here? or is that more confusing for the dog?

I have a question about Wilson and bars. He drops bars much less frequently than in the past. His vet has assured me he is fit, muscular and sound. That said, I never know where to set bars when I’m training. I know low bars are important, and I do lower the bar when we are training skills or sequences, but when we start doing full courses why wouldn’t I put the bars at full height? I am afraid if they aren’t at 24 in practice, he won’t jump high enough in trials.

“Training Threadles!”!! Somehow I missed that one. I should have known you wouldn’t have requested a skill in a sequence without the foundation first!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

So since I was uncomfortable with this, I brought out the comfy slipper first.

I thought Demi did well finding “close”, but it fell apart when I threw in “break” for a straight jump. I moved her back towards the center of the jump to help her be more successful.

    A bit frustrated today.

Storm was rolling in. iPad fell. I was hurrying to beat the storm. Bad momma, so we stopped.

An hour later, cooled and refreshed, back at it again.

Trying the backside with a threadle … we struggled, a lot. I don’t have this move in my toolbox at all, so I’m guessing my mechanics are waaaay off. I tried a few times, managed to frustrate myself again, and had to walk away.

In Wilson’s first sequence we struggled on the backside. This is not typically a problem for him. He committed to the push, but when I moved away he came with me without completing the jump. I know I pulled up before the last jump 😬. I was worried about the wall in front of me, which the other ladies convinced me that keeping the bar up was much more important than a wall face plant. 🙄

Demi’s first sequence felt like a blur. I tried the RC at the end because we have been practicing these. I think I could have tried a BC and been successful. I’ll continue practice with the RCs.

I’m struggling with Demi’s verbals in general. I run very quietly with wilson. Now, trying to add the verbals, I’m finding I can’t multi-task! I know most were late. It’s just not rolling off my tongue … yet!

Quick little session here. We did sequence 2 only because, as you can see, one of the jumps is blocked by firewood! I have such little space, and now this! 🤬

I was pleased with Demi’s work tonight. On the 3rd rep you can see where I tried to decel and leave earlier. I guess I found that point where she pulls off!

I see you posted some skill sets. I haven’t had a chance to look yet, but any specific recommendations for us?

A BC is what you get when your student doesn’t read instructions and just looks at the pretty pictures.. 🤦🏽‍♀️

RCs were a bit of a challenge for us. Just when I was going to quit and ask your assistance, I did the cross earlier, and wala! It happened! I love the leash in the ground. I need that visual, and I never complete a handling move that early. Game changer!

I wasn’t sure how to get the tight turn out of the tunnel. Much of that comes from my lack of confidence to cue before the leash. I started saying dig. I’m not sure that is appropriate here, and I didn’t like it anyway. “Dig” seems to be a word best dedicated to jumps only. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I see in my video I started saying “go” to get her around the wing. Totally falling back into oLd habits where I used to say “go” for just about everything. I should have continued to say “Go round” Darn!

And now my day consists of splitting the downed trees in the background. Four trees total! “Lift with the knees … lift with the knees…” Have a fun 4th Tracy!!

Gotta work on keeping my arms lower. Story of my life.

It got dark and my videographer got carried away by mosquitos ….

Hi Tracy, your comment: “you were pretty center of the bar so he was jumping on it a slice rather than a tight turn. That created a zig zag”…

This “zig zag” happens quite often. Wilson always saves me, and still makes it over the 24″ monstrosity! But I’m not quite sure where you want me to be. Are you saying that I should be closer to the wing? You said to get “closer to the wrap”. Does that mean the wing on the take-off side? So don’t really hide the wing, but get close?

I think my verbals with Demi were a little more controlled, but some words are still out of control. Despite that, I love how she head checks me, and keeps moving out ahead of me.

Question: wilson frequently drops the first bar when I lead out past the second jump. Am I leading out too far? Not looking in the right place? Do I need to work on where he needs to start?

    Thanks!
