ParticipantHi,
I had already picked the course for Tues so no tunnel recalls past peeps but I will add. We have worked dog moving other side of gait in flyball. Good till dog runs (recall from stay not okay, walk/jog on leash fine) then brain falls out. Will need to split that down. Did a little find my face to show Shelly at the barn for one of her dogs and Lanna did great but no video because watching and taping isn’t a thing.
Below are barn Tues with a little toss treat in dirt she got better as we went and no run offs. The other sessions were leave stash on leash. Short distances with a bunch of engagement exercises. By the end of second session started to look nice.

ParticipantGood morning. Here are videos from barn last week. Better than last week but not as good as the best week. No cows this week. I have been told they went to pasture (vs slaughter). Tonight we will have Shelly (who is back after illness/injury) so we shall see how this goes as she is a bit higher level distraction. I will remember to split.
This was our first try at the check in when lost game. I did notice a bit of angry Smurf when I added jumps. Should I continue with just flat or repeat another session like that one as she is engaged but commenting? I am intentionally walking with bar of ground – surface is too slick for running. That is the closest we get to coursework there.
And here is toy in pocket with leaving stash. I do think the picture of leaving stash on leash without visible toy has some negative feelings and/or just some stuff I don’t want built in. Her kryptonite (if I ever get to that part of the homework) is really fast dog running and barking so I can’t walk her in off leash (at least currently). We have been working on a nose bop (hand touch with bounce up) that I used in this video and then I rewarded on way out I think in this video with hidden toy but either with toy or stash. I think I can rebuild the behavior on leash without the negative stuff if I work on lots of rewards for tiny pieces with different levels of distraction. The 2 videos below are no distraction (and clearly as soon as she sniffs I lean forward – sigh, I will continue to work on stand up straight).
And for this weeks schedule – Monica Bush seminar Friday and WAG UKI Sun. Just running Lanna (surface is too slick for the old man).

ParticipantHi,
So I probably did the 2 leash wrong, but I didn’t like what I got, so I did some reward with hidden toy on way to line. Although it doesn’t really matter what she does on the way to the line, I feel like she starts looking at other stuff (or sniffing) and if it is good enough I have to work really hard to get her back and if I reward for a hand touch as we run (and build value there as distractions increase. I did do 2 leash and reward every time I removed a layer which gave lots of rewards for removing stuff. Anyway here’s the 3 sessions this am with a couple of different approaches. Please let me know what you think. I liked 3 best currently, but please let me know if you think a combo or changing something makes a difference. I did a lot of walking from stash off leash and she is ultra focused but the behavior falls apart on leash so I may need to go back and work it on leash too? I left the pretty weave pole hit at the very end of session 3 in to show we did manage to learn something in your weaves class :).Oh, and I have been doing some of this with my reactive terrier and he has made amazing progress quickly. He may never compete, but he looks really good at home.

ParticipantHi,
So Lanna and I have taken a some time to hide from the universe. So started it off on Saturday by crashing a jump at the jumpers workshop and hitting her leg hard enough she was limping a little. Good news is she has been fine since (and has a chiro appt Tues to be absolutely positively sure :)). She did run after the crash after I was sure she was okay (but toy in hand and struggling with environment). Each run got better after.
Also this week weather changes = terrible headache then I got bit by a patient on Thurs (while I was doing oral surgery – turns out the patient wasn’t as asleep as I thought).
So I will try to get some video up but for some high points:
1. We did the walk around on loose leash while my students walked the course rewarding check in very well – both treat in hand and treat in pocket. I feel it is ready for a small increase in difficulty. – do I work this dragging leash, off leash, or work toy on chair surprise toy in pocket?
2. Her willingness to play with toy is better at barn every week.
3. Our on walk engaged chill and pattern game has become more fluent (and she is frothing less on walks
4. She came to the AKC agility trial I am working for our flyball club. We worked the pattern game and engaged chill.Struggles for the week:
1. The reward with non food reward for engagement exercise was a big struggle.
2. Reward on chair with second toy in pocket in class at Leslie’s => take first jump then run to stash as soon as as the collar comes off. Couldn’t even do a trick till rewarded from toy in pocket. We’ll back this behavior up to rewarding with toy in pocket as soon as looks at me after removing collar.
3. Barn was less successful this week. All dogs were more distracted this week. It’s a barn, who knows what smells are there.
4. I feel she does better with some volume dial and not just removing leash.
5. I didn’t get to try 2 balls at jumpers workshop because she crashed the jump during her first turnI will try to post some videos.

ParticipantHi,
Busy week so this is a catch up download of some of the stuff.
Barn – round 1 was one of nicest at the barn ever – Jody present no Shelly (she is sick but recovering), round 2 showed that when there is a disconnect she’s still not quite ready to stay with me (like she would in other spots – I ran this on the other side with everyone else just to focused on her start to pay attention, sigh). My brain did click into reward and reset but too late. What I liked was when she recovered she was working really well and I didn’t feel like it was a dog and pony show to keep her with me. Also a little toy work at the end. I am really glad that is starting to recover.
Next video is NFC work in empty room easiest environment. I was trying to figure out how to make it smooth before adding environmental challenge. 1 toy left on chair, 1 in pocket (toys identical). Performed pre-run routine prior to going in (hard to see from camera angle). I did 3 reps of this should I reward during session some from chair and some from hidden or just hidden?
Lastly sessions from Thurs at PPB – first is start line adding toy. First time cheese rolled under fence.
Finally – walk around and reward engagement as my beginner students walked in. I’m not sure if this was correct but I think this is what you suggested.

ParticipantHi,
Videos are from Thurs afternoon class (Leslie says hi). I tried to be more exciting on way in, reward leash off with toy/not food, and work 2 balls. It felt awkward in spots but hopefully is what you are looking for. I was reading feedback on 24 hours without sleep, so I apologize if I screwed something up.
I also have a question, you recommended adding toys to line up game. Currently I am at toss cookie, call through leg, lead out a few steps or none and toss give cookie. Do I toss cookie to set up the reward with toy, toss toy the reward with toy, or am I missing a step to get her behind me to start game. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

ParticipantHi,
On the runs I thought she struggled more. Her jumping and obstacle commitment were worse and she was looking around on the start line as soon as I went to remove the leash. I do think it is an improvement over last trial, but not as good as day 1.
Here is work at barn and training building. We were by ourselves both times. What she is looking at in the barn is the cows.

ParticipantHi,
Here is the rest of the footage from the weekend. Sorry It’s not up sooner, yesterday was a hide from the universe sort of day. I had to euthanize a friend’s heart dog and agility dog after a tragic accident and Shelly had to euthanize one of the old dogs.
On a happier note I have come to the following conclusions:
1. Being out 5-7 min before our run is our comfort zone.
2. Our routine struggles when it is on a tighter timeline.
3. Even where we struggled it is much better than 6mos ago.
4. I need a treat bin by the door so when I walk in with dog on leash and have no cookies on my I can reward removing the leash.Congrats again on a great weekend.

ParticipantHi,
Today toy stayed out and we struggled more. More looking around and slower to engage. Most people looking at the runs wouldn’t see the problem, but I’m betting it will be obvious to you when I post tomorrow. She did the obvious stuff: stayed, kept bars up, and did a nice approximation of agility; but her jumping was worse and she ran past a jump on run 2 that I can guarantee was a I can’t think about collection vs mom’s handling is subpar. 2 of 3 runs the dog before her couldn’t be caught and the third was one of the fastest in our area. On the positives you will see Teresa on multiple videos and she is choosing to disengage. She held her stays, was able to tug with a loose sheltie in the ring, and didn’t completely implode when the loose Aussie charged the gaiting near us then I ran out of cookies because it took forever to catch the dog (this is why fixing this is important to me).
For pattern game I am cuing first cookie by standing or verbal, rest is uncued. I bought licky mats to try, she isn’t a huge fan of the snuffle mat.
Pip was a horrendous demand barker from the day I got him from the shelter (and demand biter). I got rid of the biting, but never the barking, let’s just say I am suffering from PTSD.

ParticipantHi,
I’ll start with a summary for the day and then attach the 2 videos. She was focused on me (vs looking around) during the stay at the start the last 2 runs. She kept the first bar up, I could see some iris (not just completely dilated pupils), she redirected out to take a jump the last run she could have easily skipped, I feel after the last 2 runs it would be reasonable to make it harder, except tomorrow she isn’t first dog in the height which is a much higher level of difficulty for her so we will stay with toy obvious. I am really happy with her runs today. The last 2 I really felt confident that she was focused and running with me (I didn’t intend to fix the missed jump it was the easiest way to get us both going in the same direction). Please feel free to skim or only watch the last few min) I included it all as I wasn’t sure where to edit it and then if you have a question I can just look for the time stamp vs downloading it again.Run 3
Run 4
Barking on cue – I understand the argument for getting barking on cue, however to this day Pip will bark from the minute he enters the building to the minute he leaves (except when he is actually running) unless I manage him. This drives me crazy. As such anything that might increase barking is a hard sell.
The barn – any toy movement currently is aversive. I might be able to do a treat frisbee or lotus ball (but I will need to buy one) as I gave mine away a long time ago. I will contemplate the options and work on 2 ball play which is honestly probably the solution for the barn.

Ps – Pip was quite pleased with his run, he managed to sneak in an off course tunnel (I laughed).Lisa Polazzi
ParticipantHi,
I think I got it now. Sorry internet is a struggle.
Rest run 1 – I thought the run was fabulous. A little sticky but took the stuff.
Run 2- more connection struggle going in but able to take off collar and tug before asking for sit stay. She was out way too early. I didn’t have feedback from run 1 yet. Really long but I wasn’t sure where to crop the wait – I forgot how long Nov standard takes :). Run is at the end (and hopefully there 🙂 ).
Run 3 went well but starting to push start line. Video to come later (also some sassing on the start line).

ParticipantHi,
I messaged the you tube link. She runs at 4:33.Lisa Polazzi
ParticipantHi,
Class 1, this was really nice for a first run for us. Next time I won’t reset the start line but just go on. I’ll spare you my flawed thinking. I really wanted to reward after first jump since she took and kept it up. As you may be able to see she was able to chill with chest scratches until Lore (24in BC ran), that’s when we started ramping. I stuck to behaviors to decrease arousal till the dog before her went in the ring as too aroused is a bigger problem than not aroused enough. You can’t see my station but there is one set out of view of the camera.
Lisa
Ps. There is a post from last night below this one.Lisa Polazzi
ParticipantHi,
For goals:
1. Focused on the way to the start line vs having to work to re-engage her when I get there.
2. Clears the first jump
3. Commits to obstacles2 and 3 and clear signs she is struggling with the environment.
I have only done NFC with a toy visible. I will try 2 balls in class at home first. Although it is a good idea, she ability to bring back a toy is much worse under stress. We are still working through ball tug exchange in flyball (where I can control variables).
It is interesting that you have been able to do snooker NFC. I have had judges say no.
Also of note, we are first in the height Saturday and not first Sunday. She tends to run better first 16. She also runs better small to tall Sat is tall to small. I will try to find a way to video all the runs and will try to post when I can. Pip is doing a cameo appearance in Vet Jumpers (so I don’t kill him at night). For some previous video, I have footage from the barn this week. The week before this class started Lanna hit herself in the face with a bottle toy (her absolutely highest dollar toy). Although she is playing with bottle (and various other toys) in all other situations, she clearly possesses no desire to play with a toy at the barn. I tried last week with an assortment of toys and it was a hard no. So this week she ran for food. She was much happier and looked much better. She ran off once at the very beginning of her first turn but then got progressively more focused. I forgot to do the pattern game on resets round one, but did better round 2.
Then here is where we are on training 2 new tricks and our first session of offered attention when removing the collar. Although we are in the training building, it is empty.
I will try to get video from the seminar last week and some more game videos posted when I have a chance.

ParticipantHi,
I have a bunch of videos to post that I haven’t managed to upload, sigh. However, I am entered this weekend at a USDAA trial. Standard must be NFC (still working running contacts).
Run order Sat:
Str Gamblers
Str Std
Biathalon Std
Str Jumpers
Run Order Sun:
Str Snooker
Biathalon Jumpers
Str JumpersI work Sun so can only run a few runs. Starters snooker can’t be NFC I believe. It’s a small trial so I may need to try to set camera on a tripod to get video. Please share any thoughts about trial strategy this weekend and I will try to post at least some of the backlog of video later today. Seminar last weekend featured how to work with screaming child. First run was a bit of a struggle, but each subsequent turn got better. Sometimes the most valuable thing you get out of a seminar isn’t what you expect. Thanks!
