Again, thanks for all your feedback. I totally agree, it’s that handler. We’ll work on these more, keep my arms down, be earlier, reinforce more, etc!

Already watched all the week 2 videos, great stuff, can’t wait!

My participation will slow down a bit end of next week and next weekend. 2 day USDAA in the HEAT!!!
    Trial committee duties await.

    Thanks again!!!

First on the teeter. Today I just held up the board, she is light enough. Asked her to take it. She ran to the end with me holding it. Asked her to down and then treated her. Put the board down. It was great except she self released.

Speaking of, so much fun. I love cranking it up and finding more things to fix / work on (for both of us). FYI, I am missing an ACL, so given the work for today I thought the brace might make sense.

I did the turns to the outside before starting to film. I think the handler needs work on connection during crosses as well as placement.

    BC and FC

In the other direction… improved connection. Needed some start line reinforcement and another dropped bar.
    Other direction

We really struggled with the BC to tunnel. I felt based on my position in relation to the tunnel, a FC would have been the better handling choice, but this was a BC exercise and we should be able to do it. Actually, looking at the video for the 3rd time, perhaps I needed to be even deeper towards the tunnel, so that she didn’t need to go around me. I was on her line on a number of these exercises in all the videos!! Dang handler.

    BC to tunnel

Thanks for your help. We are having so much fun. And I need to remember…the little smarty pants is only 8 1/2 months.

Yes, I noticed that bar and went back to look at my timing of the verbal or to see if there was something else. I have done some exercises at 12 and bar knocking doesn’t seem to be an issue. Yes, we’ll keep an eye on it.

Off to work on BC and FC.

RE Teeter, when I started training her, I had the teeter low and piled tunnel bags under the dropping end and trained her to run to the end and do the down. Then I removed the bags, continued with the down at the end. And then put it at full height. I think she does the down when she starts to feel the board tipping, so she is confused. She is a picky eater but generally will take chicken. She is becoming much more toy driven. I also think she is starting to feel rewarded just by playing the game.

Although I don’t put her over the full teeter often, she is a bit of a teeter sucker and takes it on her own. (Same with DW, it is one her favorite places to take her toys, play and hang out to view the world). Since she was always climbing it, (I have a full size and one that was low for most of the time but is now about 2/3 height), I started making sure she knew how to get off appropriately very early. She has been striding down a ramp for a quite a long time.

Today I pulled out the tire frame and draped a shade cloth over it like a curtain. I used that to keep the sun from shining on the tripod. When we weren’t working, I put the shade cloth over the tripod as well.

FYI, my tight right around a wing is REP and my tight left around a wing is DEM. Here is our Lazy Game with the tunnel work. Yes, she got the off course tunnel on me once!

I decided I would just lift her off the end but she had a different idea. It was like Ground Hogs Day.
She runs to the end great, but she doesn’t want to down with the teeter that high in the air. Every time I asked for the down she would just spin around to run back down (over and over and over).
I initially taped the spoon from under the teeter. She would go to the end and turn up her nose at the chicken. So then, I tried to secure toys at the end… Then I went back to the spoon but taped it on top of the board. It was funny and crazy the amount of time I spent trying to get something rigged hoping she would go to the end and then down. I provided the very short version of our work.

Today was terrible for a number of reasons. I need to work on the teeter video, it will be like a blooper video. I will just say after I tried a number of things, I pulled the chair away and just did a teeter (not on the video), she looked great.

So this is our redo of the Lazy Game. There is one bad throw, but I left it on to prove she WILL bring a toy back once a day. I had trouble with the video on the phone. I received a message that said it was too HOT for the video to work. That pretty much says it all.

    Lazy Game redo

I think Indy has her last adult teeth coming in which is driving her chewing all her toys (and me taking them away), we should be over that soon!!!

I feel like a bit of an idiot. I forgot about focusing on keeping the dog arm down. I was using the incorrect cues all over the place, but Indy ignored me and did what she was supposed to. On the baby one step sends, we off coursed! Indy had fun. Her handler needs to hold up her end of the work.

I bought 2 treat huggers, thinking the same thing. I almost bought a gizmo that goes on the end of the teeter for treats but I thought it was too expensive. Will need to look around and get creative. I think you mentioned a spoon. hmmm.

    Good Morning,

We will be / are doing running contacts on both the AF and DW. I have been asking for a down at the end of the teeter. My real purpose is too keep her body weight low at the end. She is running almost to the end and then she doesn’t get released until the down. Sometimes the down happens just before or at the yellow line, but then when released she will hit the yellow. I need to decide what I want the criteria to be and stick with it.

Yes, the heat is awful. We are used to it for a few days in a row but not weeks. The only thing helping me deal with it is that I went to Florida mid June where it was hot and humid. So I am thankful we have very low humidity. Indy and Mattie got to spend 9 days at a nice boarding kennel, just before the temperature madness started.

I will look into the treat hugger. Also I have realized a primary reason she doesn’t want to return her toys. I pick up her toys and put them away because she is still a chewer and tears up the fluffy ones and even chews the fleece and rope ones. Maybe I should try training with Holee roller. She brings the big one back to me so I can throw it again.

Thanks for the info above. I think I will be working on Winging it in the am.

Here is her Plank Confidence work. I need to find some good treats that work well in the dirt. And when I threw the toy, I was spending way too much time calling her back after she ran off with it! So I just didn’t have the patience and had to adjust. BTW, I had to put things under the ends of the DW to keep it from moving, based on its design.

Needless to say, we have been working on both the teeter and low DW. She has no fear.

Question on the Wingin It exercise (no we haven’t tried it yet).. Seems the 1 step send is extension mode. When you do the exit line connection and (try to) keep your dog side arm back, what is telling the dog that you need collection? Is it all in you feet and timely rotation? I am already seeing that issue with Indy or perhaps I should say I appear to be late often. With a front cross, as I rotate (late) she drives behind me and is not collecting. I have been using that dog side arm to help get her on the proper side. Thanks

Appears the internet problem is fixed for now.

Here is the jumping grid referenced above. The jumps were at 4 ft and the extensions were an additional 3 ft. I think I could have set her up closer to the first jump in 4, 5 and the 5 redo.

Regarding ADV 4 above, I think at :17 the verbal was later than at :22. Also at :22, I think I rotated more / better, That is her right wrap cue. Regarding the threadle tunnel cue, to be honest I didn’t even recognize the entry as a threadle tunnel entrance and was only trying to use my motion / body to cue the entrance.

A little crappy weather for a few days :<(

    Thanks
