ParticipantYay!!! So in my two classes of the week she did jump to dog walk and both were beautiful! I’m so proud of her. The full dog walk is definitely coming together for her and her muscle memory is so good! I think all the work we did at the end of the dog walk is showing off.
So my next question: is it time for verbals off the dog walk now? Like directional. Or should I wait another week and focus on handler motion this week?
Another DW question: is it ok to start fading the mat for those straight exits that I know she will hit? I ask this because before my turn in class, I always go put on my mat and it would be nice to skip that sometimes hahahah lol
A frame- yay!! I will start adding it in courses. Do you think she still needs the mat at this point? Every video you have seen is how many times she has been on it lol. I could try without and see how it goes?
Robin Terry
ParticipantSo I have found she does a lot better when we are doing the entire DW. It’s like it gives her enough time ti adjust her stride. We have been wrapping a stick in the ground to getting on the DW (you’ll see in the videos). We haven’t added really any speed approaching the DW yet and I’ve still been saying “run” and then the action to do on the jump (like “right” or “left”) and that’s about it. We also haven’t done any super hard 90-degree turns off it yet either.
Here is our low speed full DW at full height: https://youtu.be/WOYI1JEiq88
On the plus side, we haven’t had a completely terrible session (aka like 5 misses in a row where I want to die) like I was mentioning in my last post – yay! Here is our second round A-frame at full height: https://youtu.be/w-5EV4BebSU. She has some high hits that I think I should stop rewarding. I will be more diligent about that next training session, if you agree.

ParticipantOkay so here it is with the wing around the clock for both sides: https://youtu.be/CUZUmu7MTPU. I want to do some more left side practice bc she is still struggling with that. Of course on a quick afternoon when I wasn’t videotaping she missed 3 in a row – the first 3 of the session- and I almost cried.
But ugh yes some of those hits were too high – like one foot on mat, one right above. Honestly my eye has to get better… I’m hoping it does with experience.
Also I noticed that if I am walking then stop while she is on the down ramp, she will struggle on hitting the target and hit way too high. It’s concerning me! Maybe that is just a step above her right now, and we will get there…but yikes!! Tell me not to panic right now haha!
I took Mercy to this indoor facility to practice on a new DW and get her started on the A Frame. Here she is on a new DW (turf footing and different DW): https://youtu.be/CWe4JLYG-r8
Here is her first time to see the A frame. Just wanted you to double check I’m on the right path here: https://youtu.be/1eLn9oFKE5QRobin Terry
ParticipantAhh yes this link works! Thank you!
Robin Terry
ParticipantOhhh also, do you say the same word for the a frame as the dog walk? Like her “mat” word is “run” so would I say run or should I said “climb” for another word for a frame?
Robin Terry
ParticipantYay super happy it is going well and you think so! It’s great having someone else see it who has done this a lot in case I am missing something – totally new to me.
Here is a brief video of Mercy with the toy around the clock (I sped up this process compared to the MM): https://youtu.be/FlFcP7qHmjE
Unfortunately, it is supposed to rain for the next 8 days soooo let’s hope she doesn’t forget everything!
Robin Terry
ParticipantHey! Yay I thought she did well and is getting the hang of it. Really no surprises at the full height. She is doing pretty consistent (not perfect but that might be long shot goal).
So here is the video for her left side with the MM: https://youtu.be/_O1IbUELzqA. I don’t think as good as the right but we took a too long of break since we’ve been getting so much rain – blah! And more rain this week so hoping to cram this weekend.
Moving to toy around the clock! ((I still haven’t added directionals yet – I have just been saying “run”))
2 Teeter Questions: Did you start the teeter after you had full height full DW consistent hits? Also, how did you get ahold of Dan Shaw? I can’t find him online – only see him on FB. I have been training a nose target to 2o2o on the flat and on the end of the teeter – but hesitant to do much more and ruin my DW lol.
Final question: Do you have any trips planned to TX? Haha, we need a seminar so you can see Mercy and our training live, lol!
Robin Terry
ParticipantAlsoooo, random but do you do 2o2o for the teeter? I think once we get to running full dog walks with mercy I will begin the teeter
Robin Terry
ParticipantBack at it!!
Full height DW. Here is video of her right side to the manners minder. Still no “full” dog walk – she is plopped to her sweet spot half way. https://youtu.be/FHt-jWXOT7M SOOOO HAPPY about her progress and success. What do you think? She occasionally is a little stinker and pounces off it just to get a laugh, I swear, but then she’s like yeah I will just reload myself cause I know that was wrong haha.
I am working on the left side today and early next week. Then will do the same thing with the dead ball and then wing. Maybe in a week or two we will be done with that.
Thennnnn we start directional verbals and full dog walk?
Robin Terry
ParticipantWill we just submit videos/questions like we normally would?
Robin Terry
ParticipantHey! Letting you know that we have finished around the clock with the MM. We are going to dead toy next- let’s hope she can think as well with that as she did the MM! I even did super hard turns where it would be like the tunnel is next to the DW and she nailed them all, ran to the bottom, didn’t jump off or anything. So very pleased! Onto the next phase!
Robin Terry
ParticipantOh you use vet wrap for the A Frame too?
Robin Terry
ParticipantHere is video from right side today’s session: https://youtu.be/46dEOwXOaGw. We went to harder turns. But let me know what you think. There are some times where I dont say anything but my hand clicks the button on the MM and I’m like hmm should that have been a reward lol. So tough for eyes, mind, and finger to be in sync! Poor Mercy – hopefully not confusing her too much.
So another thing: my MM is clogging ALL the time and driving me nuts. Been using kibble in it. What do you put in yours? Do you have that same issue and just gotta deal with it (lol)?
I’ll do left side tomorrow and see how that goes. Then if it looks good and you think this right side video is good enough, I’ll move to dead toy to repeat around the clock.Robin Terry
ParticipantJordan, Hope you are ok! Let us know if you need anything. Thoroughly enjoying this class so thank you for all you do!
Robin Terry
ParticipantOkay so 3/4 height update:
I put her on halfway on the dog walk. Got perfect hits around the clock for right side except 1 bad one and 1 questionable one. We haven’t quite reached 90 degrees yet but getting there. This is all with a MM.
Soooo not bad, yay! I’ll get to 90 degrees soon and start the left side and see how it goes.
Dog walk is couple inches over 3 feet so guessing close enough. Geez 4 feet max sounds so tall haha. I’m worried she will fall off! Lol I want to put a bed underneath it! -
