ParticipantYep – I so know that feeling. Fun to bump the mama. Happy to hear we have some work to do on this! Thanks!

ParticipantSo, I have a question… I’ve been looking back on our exercises and am having trouble finding something I think is related to pushing a dog out away except the out command with the box which I think you did in the verbals for slackers class. Will we be getting a game for pushing a dog away – like moving away from you when you converge on their path or whatever in part 4? Not exactly an ‘out’ where you want them to change leads and go out to take something. Spot tends to like to stay in close and doesn’t seem to read at all the pressure in toward him to move off. Maybe more like respecting my space kind of thing. Just thinking if he’s already 50 lbs and low to the ground and powerful, I’d like to have that skill. LOL!! Just looking for suggestions for working on that or if there will be a game for that in the next part.

ParticipantSuch a funny guy! Love him and he’s a fun puzzle. He drives me crazy tugging in the house – spends a good portion of the day bringing me toys to tug with, walking behind me shoving a toy on the back of my legs. I just can’t seem to get that transferred to my agility field yet for any length of time. Not sure if it’s the heat, the thinking about other stuff or what. That was a version of his very favorite toy in the mini pinny – he loves his blue one best, but it’s starting to break down so I got another and when it came in it was green, argh! I’ve turned into that couple from Best In Show – looking for that same toy in the same color. “we’ve got to have Busy Bee!!!”. LOL!

ParticipantI have to say I was surprised at his RC’s. Yay!! It’s the first time we’ve ever tried it and those were the only reps we did. 🙂
Weeeelll, I don’t think Spot has any clue about right and left. Will continue to work on this. He’s got the verbal wrap directionals pretty well, but I haven’t worked right and left other than the mini pinny we did. Will work on this a lot before part 4. 🙂 This is our first attempt at it. One thing I’m seeing more consistently now is that Spot is playing more now, so I’m happy with that!
We tried the progressive grid as well. I only did 2 reps. This is his first try at this. Jumps are spread 5′, 6′, 7′, 8′. I put a slo mo version in the video also just to see what it looked like. 🙂

ParticipantWill work on those things. Thanks! All makes great sense.
I got a couple of quick sessions done. Tried to limit the reps and move around the course for each exercise. You’re so good! It helped! 🙂
Anyway, here’s the decel to me and toy.
And we worked the RC stuff too…

ParticipantPlease see post above. I also worked some on the threadle stuff. I didn’t get to balance it out in that session – I seem to do too much to the point where he’s like ‘are we STILL doing this?’ and am trying to do less now. Will go back and work threadle and serp cues in another session.

ParticipantWell, he liked the lotus ball a lot that day, next day he liked it at first. I tied a string on it so he couldn’t run off with it. After a few reps he wanted the food out of it. Then ‘meh’. LOL! I think I need a huge stockpile of toys and trade out each rep. What I tried was the MM for the decel to me then go on to a reward. First rep I asked for a hand touch then sent on. You can see from there what I did. I left 1 rep from the first day in for you to see.
We also worked on the wrapping a wing before a jump and a go on. Totally said the wrong direction verbal for the left wrap. Guess he’s following my body more than his words at this point. Anyway, here’s that…

ParticipantOMG!! I need help on the decel!! You know my dog that doesn’t really like toys as much as food? Well I decided to use a lotus ball. Taught him to get to the treat and then took it to my course. He loves it – doesn’t get the treat out but just runs off with it or tugs with me with it. So, I tried the decel game. First rep, looked at me and I sent to the l.b. Second rep zoomed past me straight to the thing. I moved it further and me closer, nope, and though if I move and stop dead maybe – nope. I eventually put a treat in my hand and he ran wide of me to get the toy. I did a rep of toy race so he could see the difference, nope. Then I went to a different toy. He came to me but would NOT go to the toy. So, the good thing is he’s never returned a toy to me on my field but he fetched like a champ with the lotus ball by the end. Ideas?

ParticipantHere’s Spot’s tunnel and go stuff. We had one bad one early on where he looked at me an rammed the wing, but no harm done.
julie watson
ParticipantGreat! Will do. As far as I’m concerned no need to keep the throw back treats in.
julie watson
ParticipantWheee indeed!! I hope you’re right. 🙂
I worked the jump ladder. He likes straight lines to MM. I’ve done this but not with bars up – just on the ground. Bars were at 8″. I”m assuming he’s ok if it’s below hock height at 10 months. Anyway, he broke his stay a couple of times so I left in the ‘in between reps’ part on that so you could see what I did after the broken start line. I definitely don’t want another yooouuuu staaaayyy, yooouuuu staaaaayyy!!! dog. So after Mr. Wager I”m a bit twitchy and looking for input with any blip on that. LOL!

ParticipantThanks for the reassurance! I’ve been a little worried I’d have a slow dog and have to buy some pom poms to cheerlead with. When you said it’s about coming in to me I started thinking (dangerous, i know…). We were playing with his favorite toy in the house and we tried this game to see if he’d come in. Of course it took me 3 reps to realize i needed to put the toy on the ground so he didn’t jump up. He seemed happier about coming in to me here than on the field.
julie watson
ParticipantOK, so sorry for 2 in a row… I am still working on the rocking horse stuff. Tried to start towards sending back and leaving a little sooner… Lots of cheerleading needed – I’m hoping this will pass, right?
julie watson
ParticipantWell, I read this and then totally forgot what you said about a hand touch. Somehow in my head it went to just throw a reward behind you. Will keep working on this but DANG it’s like pulling teeth to get him to move on this! You can see what I tried… oh, and btw, there was a rocking horse rep at the end – I just left it in.

ParticipantWe did our first attempt at the serp stuff. Not that successful but not a total fail either. After we did a few reps he lost steam. I dunked him in the pond and came back and tried a couple with food. Meh… How can I make this picture clearer for him? Thanks!!
