ParticipantWill do! He’s totally over the scary thing. Has been bringing me toys to play and tug with like crazy – which is his normal. With all this staying in for people I now get what my dogs feel like when they’ve been housebound too long! If I could get someone to come out and play I’d be bringing toys too (or maybe wine). 🙂
Will bring the wings in and work there a bit before expanding. Thanks!!

ParticipantWe did a little work on the left and right basics. He was having so much fun with toys until something happened when he shook the toy. He squeaked and backed off. I tried to engage him again and he wanted nothing to do with it. I got out a ‘cleartainer’ with food in it and he was happy to work again. What i saw when he cut in was that 1. he could see the toy and 2. my foot was not aimed at the second jump but half way between the 2nd and 3rd jump. Should he still commit to the 2nd jump when I have turned like that? Anyway, here’s our first attempt at this. Finally a nice cool day!

ParticipantGreat! Will do a couple lures and see how we do. Thanks!!

ParticipantI had a little free time today 🙂 so I thought I’d get the Go!stuff done. It was really hot today so I moved to the shade when I changed sides. I hope you can still see it.
I redid the set point stuff. Again – in the shade so I hope you can see.

ParticipantWill redo that part. Thanks!!

ParticipantSo, as I did the bending you’ll see after the first couple of reps my camera starts to change angles – well, it just slowly dropped down and didn’t get all the great reps we did. If he lacks a bit of enthusiasm in some reps after that it’s because we redid the ones the phone didn’t catch. Long session. anyways, here’s the bending stuff…
Then did some of the set point stuff. Is his split foot approach a thing to stop or will it sort itself out as the jumps get higher?

ParticipantI did a little of each of the exercises. Sorry it’s so much at once. I didn’t have time to download and edit until today – I’ve been very busy buying toilet paper at all our local stores. LOL!
I did some of the rocking horse stuff one day with moderate success for a few reps then he lost interest. I stopped and let him swim in our pond, but till didn’t get much more out of him – it’s hot here. Did some more another day. I started with a toy then went to treats.
I”ve done the shaping going through uprights in the past. I’ve progressed it to more than one jump. I know you haven’t had us do that yet, but I included a bit of what I’ve been doing to see if it will be confusing or a problem.
Here’s the tunnel sends.
Here’s my tour of stays. I did a couple with toys, then went to treats.
Thanks!!

ParticipantOne question on this one – you are using your arms a good bit – still low but using them to send. Is that the idea to use arms as well as legs or just use as much as you need to get them to go? So if they don’t need much arm, don’t use much or do you want the arm motion with the foot send?

ParticipantI try to leave tunnels till later in working with my puppies, but Spot can do basic tunnel stuff. He doesn’t find entrances if they aren’t facing him and doesn’t know entering from the convex side yet. He can do easy sends but doesn’t have super high value for tunnels yet (will take uprights over a tunnel given the chance because we’ve practiced that more).

ParticipantWe gave the new stuff a try this morning. I started with the blinds where I could use a toy, then did the MM then the treats. He works nicely for a while with a toy till the treats show up.
First up is the blind stuff…
Second is the next step in running contacts…
Last is the lap turn stuff. I started with a wingless upright then switched to a wing after I knew he’d do it. I can see I am luring in the first several reps. Eventually I did a couple without treats in my hand. Have some work to do here…

ParticipantDid a few wing wraps with the wing showing more. I wanted you to see – he’s grabbing other jumps that are close by – went over his first bar off the ground in this one. 🙂 I’ve been rewarding any interaction going thru uprights so he continues to build value for finding obstacles. I”m wondering if you think I”m setting myself up for problems later in what I do when he takes a jump I didn’t ask for. You’ll see it in the video a couple times
So, I tried the wobble board to the MM – HUGE fail. I’ve done the board with him on the carpet, so I thought I”d put it on the trex instead of the cement at first so it wasn’t so noisy, but first rep it slipped when he got on it and it spooked him. Thought if I put it on the cement he’d be ok, not so much. So I just went on to the teeter. He did fine there, but in the past when we’ve banged the teeter I’ve been right beside him at the teeter holding it low, so when I moved away he didn’t quite get it at first.
Worked on the baby blind foundation stuff. I had been using treats so I just kept using them when I switched from teeter stuff to this. I rewarded once from the wrong hand. At least I realized it. LOL! Anyway, here’s that…

ParticipantWhen you talk about and L shape for wrapping a wing do you mean the handler goes toward the jump then turns 90 degrees away from the jump and the dog goes 270 degrees instead of 360?
I worked on stuff a bit. Did the box shaping with me standing still.
Also worked on 2 elevated planks with the MM. I did a nice session and he was running happily on it then when I went to turn off the camera I hadn’t turned it on, so we went back and did a few more. he wasn’t quite as excited about it, but still did ok except when i ran beside him.
Did more of the wing wrap with movement, but didn’t do the 90 degree stuff. Will add that next time.
And I started the running contact intermediate stuff. It’s long, but I didn’t know how to edit anything out much really and I wanted you to see how we got started and how it went the first time out – I realized i went way too long without playing, so we tugged and did just a couple reps more then finished up. We actually practiced this first so I hadn’t gotten out any food yet and he played with a toy on it! yay! Anyway, I felt good about our first attempt at this.

ParticipantI tried the wraps with motion with food today. I moved slowly and am just building value for going around the wing for a while. Here’s what I did. Any tweaks on this?
Also tried the sending back and moving away as well as trying to move early after sending to the wing.
Finally, I elevated the plank and worked on jumping on/off and running it with a manners minder.

ParticipantWill get something for him to run to. Thanks!
I got started on trying to progress the wraps to add motion. Took me several reps to get going. I didn’t want to get food out because after I do there isn’t any toy play anymore. I’m still working on it, but wanted to get this done before it really started raining so instead of dropping treats I just traded hands with the toy to lure a bit at first. He’s pretty good with the sends (later part of the video), but when I move past he doesn’t have solid commitment yet. Anyway, here’s the wraps with some motion.
Also started shaping the box for the first time. He picked it up well. I started clicking for back feet after a couple of reps. Here’s that…
julie watson
ParticipantStarted on running a plank. This is our first time to go the whole length. Before I started video I put him on the end and recalled him to me down the plank twice. He seems to get the idea. I’ll elevate it more next session. We had a bouncy aussie moment when i tried to run the whole length with him which is why I put the food at the end. Will bring the manners minder next trip. Anyway, here you go…
