ParticipantThanks! That all sounds good. I lowered the jumps to 16″ and put more bags on the tunnel. I redid the last exercise to see if we could get the layer and we did! yay! I decided if I went deeper in to the tunnel then I’d be showing more motion (as much as possible with the bum knee anyway lol) and maybe the layering would work better.
The other part is getting a better turn out of the tunnel. I did a straight exit first then 2 tries for the right turn. Didn’t get my shoulder turned as quickly as I had hoped on the first rep. Second rep I tried to turn sooner, but watching it looks like I put up an opposite arm also.
And although I’m wearing another 10th anniversary shirt on this one, please don’t expect a new one for each video. LOL
Happy 4th!!

ParticipantIt was delish! And I made enough for several days – it only gets better with a little time.
Spot and I tried the first set of timing exercises. I just did one rep and done on the first 3 – wanted to come in and look at the video before trying again. The last one we had trouble with, so I did more than one rep. I left in the ‘in between’ stuff since you were saying we needed to put some thought into it before just repeating. Just sped it up, but kept it to see if that was what you meant. I didn’t stop and watch the video though.
So, here you go…

ParticipantI just finished remaking it – had to go buy more cream cheese. Has red onion, scallions, carrots, a little bell pepper, pickled celery and dill. Was going to add everything seasoning but just bought everything bagels instead. Cross your fingers I actually get it in the fridge and keep it there! LOL!

ParticipantOK, so, i watched the first video and you hit my morning PTSD! For the first time ever last night I made veggie spread for my bagels. Had an unfortunate mishap with liquid joint supplement for dogs vs my water bottle last night to take my pills with and apparently left the spread out in the mayhem. Right before watching the video I read up on the fact that cream cheese can not sit out over night and I have now wasted all that good stuff! Funny that you should talk bagels in agility right after that sad realization! LOL! See you tonight! 🙂

ParticipantWill do! Thanks for the ideas. I worked the threadle slices today. you were right – the vortex is real! I had trouble getting the serp so I finally offset the wing to start then went to parallel after a few successful attempts. I had trouble with saying my second directional on the serp – felt like if I said the second directional I stood a chance of having him threadle. This needs some more sessions! I do feel like he really gets the threadle, just not the serp as much.

ParticipantThanks for the feedback. I didn’t even realize i was doing those things. Will redo the get out vs ok and keep that all in mind. I was more conscious of the reset cookies on these. I showed some of them and not others because the video was getting long. On the wrap reps, I started out doing the wrap cue after he was wrapping but eventually my brain kicked in and I stopped running my mouth. LOL! Here’s the front and back combo and jump height increase/decrease. I totally didn’t think about the reward word instead of ‘yes’. At some point I’ll get all this ironed out and remember all the feedback.

ParticipantOK, please see above. 🙂 I worked on the ‘out’. Not sure what I did differently with Spot on my right, but it seemed much harder. I don’t do obedience so he’s not any more used to being on my left than my right. Anyway, here you go!

ParticipantThank you! I reworked the go vs serp. Used much less motion at first and he did mucho better! I realized several reps in that I was using ‘left’ in a really loud intense way like I do ‘go’ so it wasn’t working that well. When I used a soft long ‘left’ he understood the difference. So, if I do what I train it works. LOL!
I also worked the wrap away exercise. I think he was a little rock star! not perfect, but I was really happy with how he did.

ParticipantWe started working on this week’s exercises. The first one went pretty well. Of course I did too many and when I heard him whine I finally got the message to stop. sigh… But I think he did well. I messed up and did a spin for some unknown reason. I’m trying to stop using ‘yes’ but it’s so engrained it seems it might take a few sessions.
Second exercise – he had trouble understanding what I wanted with ‘go’ and went to the back side a lot. I didn’t try to do the other side till I got some feedback on what I was not doing correctly in my handling that pushed him out. Will redo the left and try the right when I have a better understanding of what he needs to get that. Sorry about the airplane noise – the navy does touch and goes at our little local airport about a mile from my land. Guess that’s part of how we can afford the land. 🙂 Thanks!!

ParticipantWahoo!! I”m sticking a gold star on my forehead and cracking open the champagne! We tried the step 3 today with less stellar performance. He was so wanting to default to the backside so I did mostly straight or soft turns. At one point I moved up close to the jump so he could be correct and then worked my way back away from the jump. I didn’t add any movement at all. At the end I feel like he was doing a good bit of thinking and paying attention. Will work on these more after the weekend – headed to a trial. Spot’s team name this weekend is Spotted Running Amok. Green dog teams are so much fun. Wish us luck! LOL!

ParticipantOK, I’m thinking there was some latent learning (on my part and his lol) going on. This is our next attempt and I think it went much better. I was much more careful about the clean start and he understood the single wing with the bar this time. ha! I’m thinking you know what you’re talking about. 🙂 I didn’t repeat the serps, just the back side slice and wraps. I used a marker so I knew where I did the last rep and how far to move the next one over – moved about 8-12 inches each time. He never had a wrong rep. Had one where he might have been about to go wrong on the wraps, but as I moved on the line he pushed out around.
Here you go:

ParticipantThanks! yeah, I put that bar up on the backside wrap because I tried a couple reps with only 1 wing and a bar on the ground and he looked at it like it was from another universe. Am I ok to use both wings and the bar on the ground at this point? He seems to ‘get it’ better with both instead of just the one. I”m sure I could work him through just one wing if you think it’s a necessary step and I’m losing a foundational element (using my big girl words. ha!) if I don’t do that part.
The rest makes sense. Will continue to work on these!

ParticipantWill keep working on last weeks and thanks for the ideas. Yes, on these he is having more trouble with the Go. On a full course I haven’t noticed any issues with that so far. More the opposite – he’ll continue on a line and not hear me give verbals for a direction change (or maybe he’s just giving me the middle toe and doing the fun stuff. LOL!) Here’s my first try on week 3 exercises. It was total of less than 3 minutes so I just uploaded them all in one video.
julie watson
ParticipantGreat feedback! Didn’t even think about the lead change. We worked a little more on this today. Here’s the second try. I did the wrong lead a couple times for the go’s but most were on the non-turning lead side. Who would have ever thought this would be so hard. LOL! He’s getting it, but I would have thought he would do it no problem. Glad we are taking time to work on this! Thanks! Are we ready to progress to the next game or keep on this one?

ParticipantI worked a bit on the wing wrap to the left this past week as you suggested. The only way I got a really good tight turn like the ones going right was to start with Spot further to the lateral side of the wing, then he’s really nice and tight around it when it’s more of a circle instead of a U shape. I assume if we do a lot of reps like that he’ll eventually get the muscle memory for it. I kind of wonder if I turned the wing end on for a few reps in the U shape is it would tighten it up. Will play with that. I went ahead and worked on the week 2 stuff even though we aren’t done with the week one turns to tighten them.
As I watched this video and was downloading it, I realized I said ‘go on’ over and over to poor Spot. His word is ‘go’, but for Wager I use go and go on interchangeably. I’ll try just ‘go’ and see if he has a better understanding of what I want.
The video makes it look like we did every rep in a row, but we took breaks and Wager worked in between. I was pleased at how Wager did with these but didn’t video any of it. It’s just nice to know he can do these. 🙂
