Also…quick question – is there a way to download a picture or file here or attach one or something? Not sure how to get my workbook homework on here.

OK, here’s part of parts 1 and 2 of the wrap exercise. My GoPro said ‘card corrupted’ after i turned it off when I’d done the first set of exercises and I lost some of the reps but was able to recapture part of the first set. I did the wing wraps with sending to a wing before and he did fine, just couldn’t recapture those. I changed cards and got the rest. You’ll notice why I need to do this course part way through. I had Spot set up for a left wrap and gave him a right wrap command. Since I screwed up, I did a rear cross as he wrapped right. GOOD BOY!! I’m not sure if it’s the line I was running or if it’s him, but it seems to me when he wraps right he does so from the right side of the bar and when it’s to the left he drifts out a little so he takes the jump on a little slice left. Was I causing this?

We tried the last stuff. Started in the middle of the day and it was hot, so I thought I’d not use up energy doing pieces but put the whole thing together through the ‘get out’ sequence. Lost him in the tunnel on the second rep so we bagged it and came back later. He did great with the left turn reps, but I was doing something on the right turn reps that pulled him off the 3rd jump in the pinwheel. I haven’t finished my tunnel bypass cue and watching this I see my threadle cue looks very much like my brake cue. After we had a fail on the right tunnel bypass I just decided to do the other side and see if he understood what I wanted at all. It worked so I tried the other side again – not so good. We took a break and recollected our brains and did some of the get out stuff then tried again. He still didn’t read what I wanted or didn’t want to do it for whatever reason so I didn’t try again. Will continue to work on that.

This has been such a fun course and SO applicable to what is happening at the trials I’ve gone to. Thanks! And, I look forward to the next course. 🙂

Holy crap! I let my OCD take over! Poor Spot, he’s such a good boy to put up with me. I think I’ve got a good idea on these exercises so far how to fix what I’ve done that needs work and I”ll keep working on them.

I gave the threadle stuff a try today. We finally got one of the giant piles of trees that have been on my land since hurricane Harvey burned, so I have a little more area. I figured out that there is a sh*t ton of ash in the dirt there though, so it won’t really be ready to use till I get some rye grass planted. Dogs, toys and I were soot covered when we got home. LOL!

Here’s my threadle stuff. Poor Spot – I don’t know if you can hear it, but on the first couple of reps I used the wrong wrap cue for the wrap before the threadle. When I did the 180 the first time I used a right command and got the threadle. After that I just used jump and he got it. Anyway, here it is…

Please see the videos above. 🙂

So, on the threadles I have a question…imagine that, huh? LOL! When you switch to a straight 180 degree set up, I get the wrap verbal to get more collection, but what do you call the balance rep? It’s not really a back side – it’s the obvious side the dog would take to just do the 180.

Is there any time when you’d find it helpful to have a ‘hey you – collect please’ word instead of using your wrap cue? Like an ‘easy’ or something along that line to get the collection then the threadle cue as you see the start of the collection? I”m still hung up on the gray area between a full 180 degree wrap and the turn that is more than 90 but less that 180. I wonder a bit if I might be watering down the tight wrap by using it when I want less than the full tight wrap. It probably isn’t a thing here, but I use that verbal for a wrap out of a straight tunnel as well as jumps and I see myself getting screwed by a jump placed more than a 90 degree turn that I don’t want when I ask for a tight wrap back to me if I’m still behind and not able to be there to use physical cues to help. Does that make any sense?

OK, great! Lots to work on with these. Thanks.

I was at 1 day of a UKI trial yesterday and everything we’ve worked on was in the courses. I was sending you lots of ‘Thank You Tracy’s as I ran the courses. 🙂

Came home and got on the homework today. I did a little work on the weaves with the switch. He’s looking at my hand cue a lot, but I think time with help on these.

Worked on the backside slices also. Was doing really well and pushed my luck and then had some issues with front vs back side of jump so my session went long, but I wanted to end on a couple of good reps where he seemed to understand what I wanted and we finally got there. Not sure what I did to not get the front side toward the end.

btw – Spot boy is getting amped at trials. I have a lot more dog there than at home with practice. So much fun!!

Started working on the switch but life kept me from sitting down and editing till now. At first I had trouble with him reading it as a back side cue, but he figured it out. At 1:45 (I think that’s about right) I had done a rep and he did well when I said go over and then at this point I had just said over and he had a question. Not sure if I did something different with my body, timing or if I need the go there. Ideas?

After I posted to youtube I saw that I included a Wager rep at the end. You can tell – it gets louder when he does a rep. LOL!

How long is this class open for submissions?

Nope, you got it right. I was picturing me continuing to run forward as they wrapped back. No wonder I couldn’t visualize it. Lol!

so more a cumulative effect from adding more value to the line to 2 than for taking jump 1. Totally makes sense and when I made it easier (no bar, me right at the wing) I still rewarded on the line to 2. Will work on this! THANKS!!!

yay!! Glad the progress is coming along. 🙂 Thanks!

I started working on the backward starts and the obstacles in the path. Didn’t get all the way through the starts part. Not sure what I did that stressed him out, but the backward sends to the left at the end were a problem. I tried getting closer to the wing, dropping the bar and still he shut down and found a lizard that was more interesting. WTH did I do? So weird that it was so easy to the right and so hard to the left. I know it’s me, but I’m not sure what I did.

The obstacles in the path went better. I didn’t get all the way through – I only got to wrapping 1 wing behind the tunnel, but I moved it further back so he had a bit more speed coming around the tunnel. Will continue to work this. First time trying to take the outside of the box it didn’t work. I moved that jump a little away up the line from the first jump and it worked better. Anyway, here’s that part

haha! I don’t even do ASCA, but since it was 4 hours from me I went. 🙂

I did a couple of redo’s of the layering to use right without the Over cue. Imagine my surprise when I watched it and I still said over!! Sigh… will work on this. I so miss my brain.

After the redo is my threadle work. At 2 min 10 sec or so, I said his wrap verbal but was giving the slice physical cue. I tried to change to the wrap physical cue mid threadle, but he read the physical cue over the verbal. He’s very forgiving. thank goodness! It’s a shame I can’t see what i”m doing in real time – I had no clue I was using so much swooping hand motion on the wrap. Anyway, here it is…

I hope you’re having fun at the Open!! It’s fun to take the young ones for the first big event. 🙂

I am back on track after 4 days of the ASCA nationals and then going straight on to 2 days of UKI. BTW – don’t do a UKI trial that is on a big field with an incline with 2 dogs if you’re out of shape. LOL! whew! The UKI trial had many of the things we are working on, even in the novice classes. Novice Speedstakes had a barely curved tunnel to a straight tunnel where you needed to layer a jump offset between the two. So glad I’m taking this class!

Here’s our layering practice from week 2. By the end he was kind of over it with the toy, but instead of pulling out the food, I restrained him and worked him up enough to get one last good rep. Not sure if that was any part of what caused him to not take the jump before the tunnel toward the end or if it was just all my early turning away.

I snuck in a little practice before leaving for ASCA nationals. Got an area mowed out with my tractor – yep, I love my tractor. 🙂 I think I’ll have enough room to do the courses now. Yay!

Anyway, here’s our threadles with the tunnel discrimination. Took us a few reps to get our toss over the bar down. It really seem to help. Thanks!!

Bless your heart! LOL! (you know about that one right? 🙃) Glad I can help acclimate you to the South.

I worked on the first part of week 2. Unfortunately I forgot to turn on the camera until after I did the rep where I just dropped the toy when he came around the wing, but we did that. I saw I left a rep of Wager when I was giving Spot a break. Not intentional, just had the video running and didn’t get it edited out. I realized part way through the threadle reps that I didn’t have my feet turned and corrected it. Early on I also figured out I can’t have a toy in my hand as I cue the jump or he just comes to me. Anyway, here you go – first effort…
