ParticipantYep, totally missed that I was switching hands with the toy. LOL. I’ll clean that up and plan on using the toy. He is faster and likes it better as he’s gotten older.
Thanks for the feedback on the verbals. – It was making steam come out of our ears at the time. LOL. I think I understand what you mean about the difference between normal handling and a big layering moment, but I’m sure the specifics will come up in the future at some point. LOL.
What verbal do you use for your turn away? Is it “switch”? I’ve never used one before, but I know a lot of people do. 🙂

ParticipantHey Tracy,
My YouTube account is misbehaving. The same video linked twice and then instead of embedding the other videos, I got links that say the videos are deleted. Google sent a message saying there is an issue with my account. It’s late so I’ll deal with techno troubles tomorrow. Just wanted to let you know and I’ll ping you once I get it working.

ParticipantHere is decel with wind in your hair. I included the last time with the jumps closer and the last time with more distanced jumps. Looking forward to your feedback as I know I’ve struggled with it.
It really helped the way you described it in the live class. I realized I was focused on the upcoming wrap jump and it helped me to mentally switch to thinking about the decel from the jump he’s coming from and kind of reverse my focus. I know it didn’t really create more time, but it kind of feels like I have more time to think about it. LOL
Thanks in advance and looking forward to what I need to work on to improve things for us.

ParticipantHi Tracy, Here are the turn-aways. I find the one where I’m facing him to be easier for me :), so it’s taking us a bit longer to get the second one.
The first set is our last session with food and the second set is our last session with a toy. He’s more aroused with the toy of course. I included both as I wanted to ask you which reward is better to use with him moving forward with these.
We ended up discussing the verbals a bit for this one and I ended up confusing myself. Is it best to keep using his name for both of these moves until we add jumps?
The other verbal question that came up was concerning a wrap. Hopefully, my description will make sense. 🙂 If you wrap a jump (front side) with dog on right. You both face the jump’s front side. Dog jumps the front side first and wraps away from you. You turn 180 and head back with the dog towards the direction you originally came from. Is that still a wrap verbal or do you use a turn-away verbal? Thanks in advance as we talked ourselves in circles a bit. 🙂

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We’ve been practicing :), but my day job swamped me so I know video uploads have been lacking this past little bit. I’m uploading the latest of where we are at for each exercise.
I had a target out there to run a straight line, but I still tend to turn in. Maybe I need to draw lines on the ground for a roadmap. For obedience, I like using basketball and tennis courts. LOL.
Here’s the get-out command.

ParticipantHi,
So Keith and I attempted to get a couple of stack photos of him. LOL I’ve not worked it with him so I didn’t mess with hand stacking and just tried for a free stack. Not the best but perhaps between the three it’s a start.

ParticipantSix and a half sounds good. I’ve been really happy watching his adjustments. He’s really very thoughtful when he works.
I’m glad you mentioned the comment about how he runs. He doesn’t feel like I’m running a border collie (like Túlka). Not like my Tervs either, but a hint of similarity to them. I was trying to express that to someone and they kept saying, but he’s a B&W BC. 🤣

ParticipantThanks, that makes sense!

ParticipantThanks, your example comparisons for me really help. Last time I was too early so I was trying to find that “just right” timing. 😊. It is challenging.
Totally forgot about looking back. I was just watching him. LOL.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Thanks for all of the feedback. That’s really helpful as I try and get my BC timing better with him. Decel then rotate I still struggle with. :). To get that (from my side), would it help to run just me with video and then watch it? I see the cue when others run and I mentioned to someone, that it’s not that clear on video when I run. If I remember you had an exercise where we marked the place to start decel and then rotate. So maybe work on that and then add him or Túlka back in when I look clearer on video?
There was also a place you mentioned one time to buy tunnel bags from? I need a couple more bags at home for him. 🙂
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I was going through your post on the verbals you use. Do you use the same verbals for directionals off of contacts? ie. left/right for the 90′ turn and your wrap verbals if it is a tight turn back? Thanks!

ParticipantHere is a 7-foot jump grid first straight and then with angles. I took it back to 6 ft for a couple at the end so you could compare and let me know what you think.
