    Hi Tracy,

    Here are our reverse retrieves

    https://youtu.be/XEA9c0miuxs

He seems to come back the fastest when I have the second toy. Should I use that more often? Keep mixing them up to transfer the value across his toys? Something else 馃檪

    thanks!

And then here is where we are at with rear crosses this morning. I really like the wall as that’s where I saw the lightbulb. Sorry, I didn’t catch those on video, but we were doing them in between work meetings in the upstairs hallway 馃槈

I was wondering if I should wait for him to look forward or not? He obviously knows where the hat is at so I wasn’t sure if I need focus forward or not. I’m also wondering where to go next. 馃檪

Thanks as always for all of your help!

    Afternoon Tracy, 馃檪

Here are some threadles/serps at a different location. I tried not to change anything except the new place. Thanks for your feedback in advance.

Hmmm, hopefully, you can see this video okay as it seems like it will only let the link go in, instead of the video. Weird.

Thanks! A questions to make sure I understand. 馃檪

When I focus on the verbals (hold his collar so he hears the verbals first and differentiates between “tunnel” and “kiss”). Should I still use the threadle arm and move forward when I release him? I wasn’t quite sure how much you meant for me to isolate the verbals as I can see what you mean about him moving forward with the arm/foot movement. Thanks for clarifying 馃檪

Oh yea, I duct-taped my tunnel so you can’t see through it LOL. He’s still hitting it a bit. Should I let him work it out or do something further to help him? Thanks!

We had an hour group, so I figured with tunnel access it would be good to focus on the tunnel threadles. Here’s where we are with those.

    Hi,

Here is our backside slice. I have a question concerning my body cues. I remember T煤lka ended up reading my feet being sideways as a backside slice and then it confused her when I was trying to do a fast-forward, slow-forward FC turn with collection. I remember you figured out that it was my feet turning that she read as a push to the backside.

For the first session, I didn’t think about this, but for the second session I tried to keep my feet facing forward, but then it looks like I don’t end up turning my upper body as much. And when running a course, my focus is usually just trying to get there for the cue :).

So with K贸taulo, I was wondering what I should really focus on? When we are both learning each other, should I focus on my feet or my body being turned toward him for the backside slice connection or ????

Thanks for your help and feedback.

Thanks, that makes sense to get less hand motion and swap the treats into the clicker hand. Yea, aside from having to get some additional cookies, that was the full session. I think bringing the timer back in is a good idea. I don’t think I ever end up with too short a session LOL.

Here is today’s try with the head turn. I’m not sure about the timing of my clicks. Also when I watched the video back I was thinking I had too many reps and should have probably broken it up with a toy in between the 2nd time wrap and the 1st time wraps? It’s so easy to get focused on trying to get the mechanics that I forgot about a fun break.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    Thanks, Tracy

That does help a lot and is really fascinating. I’d love the read the study on adolescent dogs. This area has changed a lot from when I started training. Not adding extra stress and handling scary things by:

“Pattern game if possible in the moment, get the pup away from the scary thing, comfort the pup, decompression, completing the stress cycle.”

    makes a lot more sense.

Also just having resilience as part of the course is great. I used one of our turns at the UT puppy group to just explore and play pattern games/tug. It was our first time after surgery/holidays/snow. I could tell he wasn’t himself even though he was working and it made such a difference. 馃檪 Thanks for all the helpful info!

    Hi Tracy,

I had a resilience question in regard to your resilience gauntlet and also in general when thinking about resilience. I’ve noticed as K贸taulo is entering his teenage timeframe, he’s noticing sounds more than he did before. As a puppy, they didn’t phase him, but in just the last few weeks I’ve seen him notice them more. Am I correct to assume that just like the visual items you added to the weirdness gauntlet, sounds in the environment could result in something similar where they process the weirdness of a new or unusual sound? Or even a previous sound that perhaps as a teenager they have a different reaction to? Do you treat sound any differently when thinking about resilence than visuals?

Thanks, we’ll make sure we get this in when we have access to hopefully barrels and if not, at least tall cones. LOL

    Hi,

Yes, I was wondering about that as I noticed he was tending to “through” the barrels and was thinking if they were wings they would be flying.

I did a quick record as these are the cones I have inside at home. Are these big enough or should I try and find bigger/taller ones? If the weather gets nice I have trash cans I used outside and I know the barn has bigger cones.

    Hi Tracy, 馃檪

Here are some threadles and then alternating threadles and serps that we tried this morning

Sorry for the bad camera angle on the left. I got one of those joby grips so I could get the phone in different places, but it’s on the water pipe in the corner so I still have to figure out what it really captures. LOL.
