ParticipantHi,
Here’s our first try last night with the live sequences. We were struggling so we didn’t get very far on moving our “dog walk”.

ParticipantThanks for the feedback. Yes, the threadle was hard for us. The turn cue makes sense as I felt like we were trying to get a lot in within a tiny space after the tunnel :).
Her weaves are usually pretty independent for lateral, or with me behind/ahead of her, so I think the hole is having them be independent when I’m crossing behind. So we need to work on that as you outlined. 🙂 She was like “What???” after I tried it.
That will be great to have more RC work next week! Thanks for all your time.

ParticipantThis is one of the pop-outs from the larger courses. With the whole covid thing, our practice was again messed up. So I tried setting it up in my backyard.
I went ahead and included the walk-throughs. I wanted to improve my connection as you mentioned in the last sessions. I also ended up changing up my plan (space was tight) and splitting out the move.
I wanted to ask you about a hole that consistently shows up. Rear crosses :). I knew she would struggle with the weaves and not coming to my side if I layered, but I also knew she would struggle with the RC at the weave entrance. We still struggle with a RC on a jump. 🙂 Since I have access to many of your classes (including the puppy series), I wasn’t sure if there was something I could back up to as I feel like there is a training piece missing on our RCs? I set up an exercise from a previous class with two jumps in a line and then left or right jump perpendicular as RC options where you reward in the correct direction regardless. That is still tough for her. Should I back up even further to earlier foundation work? Thanks for any reference or suggestion
Here’s the session and thanks as always for your feedback! I’m looking forward to giving the live session distance work a try. 🙂

ParticipantLOL… yep this last one was totally rushed for time. I wanted to try it, but didn’t have much time left in my “slot”.
Our practice group has two people who just had covid that are coming back into practice. So we were doing the “split the time” and “Be Gone!” before the next person arrived. LOL
But I totally agree. I’m not working the connection enough in the walkthroughs. I’m rushing that part. So I gave it another go with the exercise I’m going to upload next.

ParticipantYea I felt myself backing up. Could I handled that differently by picking her up on my other side? I felt myself backing out of her pathway. I realize with either handling I need to run forward on the path more.:)
A directional makes sense to have her not hit the stantion. Thanks!
Yes, her rights and left with the tunnel is something we are continuing to work on. Rights and lefts are still hard for her when she is in motion and there are other options. We still struggle with those. That is a really good exercise for her because it is when there is a choice with speed. 🙂

ParticipantThanks, Makes sense to not have her in the ring while I’m walking. I ended up leashing her on our next session so she can’t follow me around :).
The lead out blooper makes sense.
Yea, there was a tunnel and a teeter that she went for and I pulled on the next run.

ParticipantAnd here is the final one. I did this one extra time as I really wanted your input on where I went wrong when we almost crashed. My change was to make sure I ran strongly toward the jump that we missed previously. Thanks as always for your feedback and I hope you have some fun plans for the weekend that maybe include staying cool!
Thanks Tracy!Sorelg
ParticipantHere’s the second one. In watching the video, I’d like to try it again and change up my handling for the last turn into the final line. 🙂 But I didn’t catch it this morning.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here is our session this morning for 1st run vs the walkthrough. I tried to keep it close to a trial by looking at the maps as I set them up. Overall I learned I’m rushing my imaginary dog through the straight pathways so I need to work on those lines more in my walkthrough.
Here’s the first one. I debated between the rear and the blind cross at the start. You’ll see the RC didn’t work on the first try. Since I know it’s a weak skill that we need to still practice offline, I switched it out for the BC to focus on the walk vs run.

ParticipantHere’s this morning’s threadle wrap session. I remember doing these in another class, so I was trying to figure out a bit exactly where to pick up with her. 🙂
Sorelg
ParticipantWill do on the sideways :).
Thanks Tracy, your feedback is super helpful. I really struggle with getting the RC lines and timing with her. We’ve handled so much with FC/BC that my RC are a weak spot for us. But we need them! So thanks again for the feedback. I’m hoping to have another chance to set this up in the bigger field and give it another go. Have a nice day!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We’re still working on the verbals as a separate exercise with me holding her collar and repeating the verbals. Her rate of success continues to be high this way, but I haven’t faced her back towards the obstacles yet. When I face her back towards them, should I face her all the way back or sideways first as a transition?
For the live class exercises. I focused more on the tunnel jump discrimination setup since we’ve been working that. I’m looking forward to your help with my verbal timing and lines.
During the sequence I felt like I ran out of runway for the rear cross (3-4), and it got messy with extra verbals/arms. 🙂 Watching the video, I think I should have kept running forward towards the bar’s center??? I cut across pretty sharply and stopped to not end up on the other side of the tunnel. Also, I never felt like I got tin position for the serp at 8-10??? Thanks for your feedback as always.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
So this has been super interesting. I’ve tried it several times with her over the past few days. I moved things closer and put her in the middle. I was still getting too many failures and haven’t seen improvement. From everything I see, she goes to the obstacle she is looking at. I could create a video where she looks like she knows what she is doing or one where she looks like she doesn’t. LOL 😉 It’s just the timing of when I call the cue with what she is focused on.
So I switched to food instead of a toy to lower the arousal and let her think more. It still really corresponds to where she looks. I included our last session with food from this morning.
So I took a break and worked the pup and then came back to try something different. I had her face away from the obstacles. This is the best she has ever done with the exercise.
And then she told me something super interesting. When I turned her back around, you’ll see where she gets her ball instead. I know her and that’s avoidance. I took the ball out of the picture (since a toy could be tempting :). I tried again and she ate grass which for her is avoidance.
I was also thinking since I switched to food vs. a thrown toy that I should get the food off of me and out in front of the jump to make it a clear extension cue vs a wrap or directional?
So I wanted to get your thoughts on how best to proceed. Thanks and see you on the live call tonight.

ParticipantHi,
We had the field early AM so we tried the 1st jumpers run and break-out sections. Tomorrow’s a day off for her while the little guy does nosework, but the next day at home, I want to try the verbal exercise again. 🙂 I’ll move things closer and try her in the center as you suggested to see what helps her.
Sorelg
ParticipantFor sure, “sit on your butt and work verbals” is my favorite game during this heat wave!!!! ;).
I wanted to send you this before proceeding. Obviously, I wasn’t letting her go until she would be successful as where she was going was obvious. So we really didn’t get to the actual exercise. I was wondering if I should just add more distance between the obstacles and/or move closer or if there is a better step to go back to in order to help her? The end cameo is just for future fun 😉
Below is one I tried just to make sure that holding her wasn’t making a difference. (Sorry had to re-upload on youtube.)
