ParticipantThanks Tracy,
That makes sense, as I couldn’t figure out what handling would help more. 🙂
We will give the sit/verbal game a try next 🙂 and see if we can help her differentiate the verbals more.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Yep, early morning is much better than the rest of the day for sure! We got a little lucky last night between starting as late as possible and some cloud cover. We had 4 pups so we could round-robin them too.
Layering for her at this distance is pretty comfortable for her and we didn’t have more width to play with. I’m struggling with really knowing what helps her the most with the left/rights. Whether it is my body position further back, shoulders, decel/direction change, verbals, feet, or timing. I feel like I’m still guessing as to how best to make it clear for her. Hope that makes sense.
We did try the last one with the turn back right before we picked up. We got it :), but I forgot to turn on the camera as it was getting dark.
Hope it is cooling down on your side of the country.

ParticipantTypically her dog walk contact is good, but it slips once in a while (arousal can bite us), so I appreciate your ideas. Running past is easier for her than behind or slowing done.
Yes I was thinking 9-10-11-12 and yep the treadle is my only option there. 🙂
I only ran the course to 12 so there isn’t anymore. It was really hot so we quit before mid-day hit.
Thanks, Tracy for the feedback!

ParticipantEvening 🙂
We tried part of the standard course today incorporating suggestions. 🙂 Jumps at 16″, food and a toy in my pocked/palm to keep it less visually stimulating. I left more video in so you could see how it’s working.
For the send at 1, I gave her verbal wrap, but she felt wide. I reacted by adding her name (not planned/helpful :). I figure I should change something.
For the backside reward at 3, should I position the reward on her line? She missed seeing the toy twice and ran wider the last time. It’s obviously new but I felt myself helping more the last time.
She had a question out of tunnel 2 but redirected. I have a question about the dog walk reward. I messed up with a late cue. Should I have put her back on the dog walk to reward with the toy? I wanted to reward since I messed up, but also not encourage self-releasing. Should I reward off the dog walk or on or ??????
I tried later to get the blind but didn’t get there, so I’m wondering about treadle timing vs the “frantic” approach. LOL
Hope your weekend was good and hopefully cooler than ours!

ParticipantThanks for the feedback concerning the send and go on jump 1. I understand now why that bar came down.
Yes, I could feel myself helping with handling versus her having an independent backside. So for sure a missing skill, we need to work on. 🙂
Sorelg
ParticipantThanks, this is definitely a skill we don’t have yet and need to work on with lower jumps.
Sorelg
ParticipantThanks for the detailed feedback Tracy.
I see what you mean about the lines being different than what was supposed to be on the course. My mental model of the course interfered with me seeing that in the moment. Thanks for pointing out to focus on what is actually there versus what you think is going to be there.
At 1:15 I recognized what Túlka needed, but too late, and really fixed it at 1:23. 🙂

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Thanks for the explanation to my question regarding the guessing. That is really helpful.
I have a question concerning rewarding. You’ll probably remember I use to always have the magnet ball on me. I ran into her focusing on the reward always coming from me and secondary issues (Looking back for it, pulling off if I twitch, her mental focus on the ball vs me, lines or obstacles). It became an overwhelming distraction for her. Currently, she is getting rewarded after each run (she did even after the petting) but the ball is up by the house. It was a suggestion from another trainer. I don’t like the delayed feedback, not being able to utilize reward placement on lines, and reinforcement drops for her. The suggestion was made in good faith given the other issues being observed. I’m wondering if there is another approach or better way to work through the stimulation of the ball on me versus using distance and a set location of the ball. She can respond to behaviors with the ball on me (swinging it, taking it on/off the magnet for example), but it is like the behaviors are on autopilot and the exercises are “tricks” that don’t carryover. I hope my description of what we’ve been struggling with makes sense.
Yes I did get a lot quieter all of a sudden. LOL 🙂 It’s been so hot that I got up at 5:00 and realized about 6 am that my neighbors might not appreciate my loudness.
Thanks for your help with the right turn out of the tunnel for Seq 2&3. I see what you mean about my shoulders staying pointed towards the go line and not turning to reflect the next line back up to 5. I still struggle when I focus on verbals to get the body cues correct. So more walkthrough practices without her trying to put those two together. Thanks for the great feedback.

ParticipantThis is the live class exercise three from this morning.
Sorelg
ParticipantAnd here is our first session at the live skills from last night. I felt like I was doing a bit of “too hot” and “too cold” porridge on the 1st exercise in particular. I’m not sure where the twist verbal really needs to be for her. It seemed really tough to get it just right.

ParticipantHere is our try at the jumpers course. We weren’t able to get the whole thing so we went for breaking it into sections. I can tell I need more of an independent line to the right-side tunnel if I’m going to try the layering approach. 🙂 I liked the way the teamwork started to feel between us, but I don’t know if I would have the guts to try this handling at a trial.

ParticipantHere is our first skill session.
I have an overall question for you to start camp off with 🙂
You may notice we get a couple of these skills on the first time, but when I try to repeat it and “improve” things, it tends to backfire. I feel like we start second-guessing each other on timing/position. You’ll notice this, especially on the 2nd exercise and I bailed on the third when it started down that slippery slope again.
Is it me over thinking, her over guessing, thinking she is wrong, …. something else???? I mention it because this session captured it, but I’ve felt it before. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and your great feedback as always.

ParticipantI agree, in particular that last left was almost at the last moment.
We’ll keep working this piece and then separately the bars as you described below.
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks Tracy,
We will give the changes a try and see what she thinks. It makes sense to change up the picture to help her get there. Thanks!

ParticipantI’ve also been trying to do a warm up with a wing as you suggested and then replace it with a jump. The two jumps are super enticing. So I reduced motion to the first step of a walk. Still tough. So today I tried an experiment just to see where she’s at. I did 3 warm up wings cues and then asked for each verbal with two jumps. Here’s the video of what I’m getting. It matches my gut feel that the two jumps are a different picture for her. She got the right wrap in this one, but that’s not been consistent. Maybe I’m missing something here and messing her up????
