ParticipantHi Tracy,
Thanks for getting back to me on this. Timing was perfect as her regular massage therapist was at the trial Saturday so I was able to schedule an appointment and get her checked out first thing in the morning. She went over her and said everything looked good.
Thanks for the suggested approached. We worked contacts first and interspersed weaves on later runs and got back to success with one to two jumps and weaves several times over the weekend. Much better than Friday!
A follow-up question for you regarding trials if weave poles aren’t successful: If I retry weaves with her at trials it typically gets worse and digs a hole (even if you make weaves easier). So is it best to just go on if she does miss them? I’m trying to balance consistency between training and trialing, not digging holes, and marking correct/incorrect behavior to increase understanding. Weaves at trial speed/arousal is a challenge for us.

ParticipantHi Tracy. If you have time. Totally understand if you don’t 🙂
We had a lot of great success at the trial on contacts with NFC. Yea! Happy dance. 🙂 But she is struggling with staying in at the 2nd weave pole at speed/arousal (misses and back in 3-4). She got the first weaves of the day with a hard hit on pole 3 but that was her only clean weaves. I tried them in flow but didn’t get success. So then one jump “weave” and still no success. So I tried rewarding for something nearby to keep up reinforcement rate and tried weaves from a sit, but still no success. I don’t want to make it a needle in her eye as that usually digs us a hole. Any advice on where to head with weaves/NFC? Or abort on weaves and regroup?????

ParticipantThanks for explaining why the break hand doesn’t work there and to work on my decel and BC timing. That makes sense. I think I would actually like the FC there :).
Thanks for the reminder about the phone, I remember you mentioning that now back when we played the original game. Perfect timing for the trial.
Appreciate your quick feedback. Have a nice weekend.

ParticipantThanks Tracy for the feedback. Yes my motion is pulling her off of backside jumps so more toys dropped on the landing side! I should have thought of it there as we did it on Sunday for her.
Thanks for the note to keep my arms pulled in. I remember feeling a little airplane like so that makes sense.

ParticipantSince we had time and it was a different location, I also retried sequence 1 for fun with the walk/run water bottle. 🙂 I gave it one more run after the others were done to try and decel/add a break arm at jump 6 to tighten up the wide turn but ended up late on the BC. What should I be doing there?
We have the UKI Rocky Mountain Regional this weekend. Wonder if we can get UKI to let us run with drinks :). I signed up for lots of classes to work contacts & weavepoles with NFC.
Thanks in advance for your feedback and help!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
So I had a chance to reset sequence 3 and see if we could put it together. I also tried adding the water bottle to both the walkthrough and run through as you suggested. It’s a really interesting sensation as it gives me one more thing to thing about, but in a way I feel more relaxed with the water bottle. Hard to explain. It really was only water. 😉 LOL.-

ParticipantThanks Tracy for the detail help as usual. I will set this one up again and give it another go (with a bottle of water :). It helps to know I do need the BC to get her onto my right side for the tunnel (or threadle).
We got together as a group yesterday so I had someone throw the toy back as I tried staying in motion through backside jumps. She needs more of that as she wants to come off when I add in more motion. So I’ll keep working that as a training piece.
Obsess about connection and staying in motion! Thanks!
Sorelg
ParticipantBug me about connection anytime. 🙂
Thanks for the feedback Tracy. I do remember the game of running with the water bottle. I will go back and give that a try with these sequences so I can start to feel when I’m not keeping in motion in the moment.
I caught it when I watched the video, but not while I was running that first time.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi,
I dropped the last jump due to space since I didn’t want her having to jump into the bushes again :).
On this last one I ended up rewalking it one additional time after the first run went south. So the comparison is my second walkthrough and runthrough.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I hope your drive to Iowa was good. I’ve driven across it multiple times, but only real hung out in Dubuque.
It was 98 today so we did one and done :). I was about 30 seconds over in my walkthrough, but took the time to do two last fast runs figuring I’ll try to get the “fast runs” going first and keep working on getting the entire process faster. Is that a good approach?
I got the head check at :32 – I think I stopped my flow of motion and kind of got stuck?? but… also wondering if I had too much connection there or something else? Then the wide line/tick at 8 into the bushes/trees, but my walkthrough kind of wussed out when I hit the bushes/trees. LOL.
Thanks in advance and good luck with the rest of your road trip!
