ParticipantHi Tracy,
Thanks for letting me know where you were timing from. I was wondering in general where you should set your timing points when evaluating turns.
As you mentioned I think it is when I stop moving and ask for more collection when she is dropping bars. The drop bars were actually scattered amongst her runs. I just put them together at the end on the video to compare and see if I could see a pattern on each handling choice. Should have mentioned that 🙂
Thanks for the feedback on the offcourse. I’ve noticed for the soft left/rights that if I think of it as a 180 turn we struggle as my shoulders turn, but if I mentally think of it more as horizontal motion from right to left or vice versa she seems to read it better. I think that keeps my shoulders from turning LOL.
I also thought the BC/FC seemed to work the best after I had done all of them. As you mentioned, I’ll have to try that versus the wrap again so she’s fresh for both. Here’s my question ;). When walking courses is there a way to help see more of these options or things you think through to not miss them? the BC/FC is probably the last one that would come to my mind so I’m not sure I would think of it in a trial?
Connection is starting to just come without me thinking about it :). Yea, thanks so much for helping me with that! Verbals still hurt my head, but I’m getting more of them. LOL
Thanks as always for the great feedback!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here is the next sequence with the different handling choices. I tried each type and then did compared. That was really fun and interesting. 🙂 After each handling choice if we had any issues I put them at the end. Mostly it was dropping bars and I’m still not consistent in changing my “Left, Left, Left” to a slower “Lllleeeefffttt”, but I’m catching myself more.
Looking forward to your feedback 🙂

ParticipantThanks Tracy for your comments. They do make sense. I will work on the decel and softening up the collection brake hand cues.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here is the first sequence with the tight turns to the left and right. So I am struggling with getting my cues clean with her. As you noticed in a previous class she reads my feet not being forward as a backside. When I tried to keep my feed forward, she ended up back jumping on one side. I left those in for you to see. 🙂 I think I tend to end up with my feet not forward when I try giving her a stronger collection.
Should I focus mostly on trying to change my handling, try to focus more on decel handling (fast forward, slow forward), see if I can train it so she understands it more? All of the above? LOL I know I’m confusing her so collection feels a bit random and I catch myself avoiding collection a trials becuase I’m afraid I’ll get a backside. 🙂
iMovie Question: For the time comparisons I used cutaway and opacity. is that the best way? I messed around with green/blue screen and it switches dogs, but sometimes I could see a comparison moment using green/blue screen.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Just thought I’d drop you a quick note to let you know why we’ve been missing in action. A close family member went in for surgery. The pups and I stayed at their place to help out but are now back home. They’re back on their feet and the new package looks like it will be fun!Sorelg
ParticipantI noticed our threadles have broken down from where they were and she isn’t getting the automatic back out. So some skill training to revisit there.
Course 2 was fun to run after working Course 1. I see what you mean at :48 to clean that up.
I could not get the ending of course 3 in my head. It did not compute LOL. Julie thought I was nuts for not getting it as it made perfect sense to her, but both Túlka and I needed more rewards at the end of 3. I like your idea of having two rewards for her when I have one at the end. She totally deserved it and I think we should make it Irish for course 3’s ending coffee. 😉

ParticipantI should have thought of the B/C between 2 & 3. Missed that one. 🙂
I have to remember I can talk to her when I can’t see her in the tunnel LOL. That makes sense as I felt like I had to hold the serp at :19 and “catch her” as she was going past since she didn’t know where I was.
I really want to try the Goldilocks moment again :). Dang I have to remember the power of Decel! I was busy focused on timing/position. Just added a checklist on my iPhone: Connection, Feet pointing line, One more step?, Timing, Decel, Verbal, My Position. Hopefully help me broaden my analysis in the moment. Thanks!!!!

ParticipantThanks for all of the great feedback and insights. Really helpful!
We have a “get it” for toys out in front that I can use for toys on course. 🙂
I see what you are saying about the forwardness of the tunnel cue, that makes sense.
What I’m seeing at trials (sometimes) is hitting the entry with a lot of speed. She often gets the entry but can’t hold onto it and pops out at pole 3/4 and then gets back in. I love NFC/FEO and that is a great idea about tying it to a leash to get around the no toss rule! When using NFC/FEO do you get better results using it consistently or intermittently? I’ve bene wondering about that.
Thanks for the suggesting at 2:35, I was wondering what to do as I felt like I was just standing there :).

ParticipantSequences: Thanks for clarifying to use the toy at the start only occasionally. I misunderstood that and she will appreciate the ball back in my hand for lots more rewards! My mistake there!
“So, keep moving one more step and face the jump that the lalal is for and she will pick up the line.”
I know this is something I’m also doing in trials…. Missing just that one more step to make things clearer for her. And then to keep turning my feet/body towards the line I want her to take and stay in the moment with her. I feel myself get into my head and miss those moments.
So when running tight wraps (left/right) should we run our path towards the left or right station (to stay out of the middle) or even be running a bit towards the outside of the station? If I can remember during walk throughs to target a side then perhaps I won’t put myself right in the middle of her path. LOL.

Help, I really felt like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears on this one. At least my training partner had the same issue. LOL. I’m figure I’m missing what I should really be cueing off of to get this “just right”???? Had a lot of fun with this one ;).Sorelg
ParticipantWk 1 Standard Course 1
https://youtu.be/vWwu1EnvBjkSo this turned into a little bit different of a session than anticipated.:) She was really struggling with focusing on her weaves. Staying in, not popping at 10, collecting for the entry. A wide variety of things with the ball at the far end of the field.
When I brought the ball up by the weave poles and we surprised rewarded it with her just 1 time, you’ll see the change in value for weaves. I went back home and revisited the weave games from your last class during the week and you’ll see the improvement in the jumpers course.
Just wondering if you have any other ideas on smoothing the value transition with the ball potentially after the weaves and her knowing the ball is after the end of the course. I am seeing this issue with weaves at trials. Sometimes they are gorgeous and sometimes they must be on another planet. 🙂

ParticipantWk 1 Small Sequence:
https://youtu.be/KRSb7QnYdZ0Hi, We are back practicing with friends and their dogs in different locations. So more distractions than are backyard LOL and great to be back working with friends. Here is our session of some of the small area sequences. I was wondering about her struggle with the slice jump (~1:40 and later ticking it)?
I also love the idea of her knowing where her ball is!!! That seems to help her settle in really nicely.
