ParticipantNext are a couple of proofing cames. The first I tried was the 10 tunnel. My issue was me getting too dizzy to find the line. LOL

ParticipantHi Tracy,
This first video is a bit long as I combined three different ways for the lead-out part 2. The first included arousal both walking to the jump and leading out. The second I walked up, but then teased him leading out and the third was all business with straight walking to the jump and lead out. I like the idea of trying to up his arousal during practice.
Looking forward to your comments.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I tried the first few sequences again today to try to incorporate your comments. Some I got and some I still missed like the second “right” after the wrap in seq 1. I included our crash-and-burn first runs and realized each time I was still rushing so I tried to mentally slow down and stay with him. That helped us get more pieces and more bars up.
For sequence 2 I tried different handling options which felt better. The FC worked a lot better 馃檪 I still struggled with getting the last left directional and some jump/go’s slipped out that I didn’t intend.
We ended with the start of seq 3. I have a question on the last jump. Can you clarify what handling/verbal we are doing there when we call him to the take-off side? I’m a bit confused there. Would more decel help him find that tight left before he heads back to the tunnel?
Off to your other games for this week! Thanks as always!

ParticipantThanks, your feedback makes sense and I’ll give it another go to try and improve things and give the FC a try.
It’s really interesting running him as I haven’t found that calm place within me yet. He kind of feels like a freight train coming at me and I still get that panic/rushed feeling with him. LOL It is getting better, but I’m still searching for that chill feeling. 馃槈

ParticipantThanks for the feedback as to why he was looking towards me out of the tunnel. I was wondering about that when I watched the video.
Reflecting on the treadle arm. 馃檪 My plan was to use the cross arm only if the angle was difficult which it really wasn’t here. During earlier Max Pup, I trained him with the same arm threadle. I had years of Derrett’s cross-arm, rotating feet and thought at the start of Max Pup that using the same arm would help me keep my feet forward. But then geeze in the moment, I revert. Dang! It felt “too fast” as you mentioned. I think I still want to convert myself to the same arm threadle. I’ll try that next practice.
You are correct with the verbals 馃檪 Right/Left are my soft and Chk/Tay are my wraps. I see where a wrap would make more sense. 馃檪

ParticipantThanks, I’ll do this both at home so he sees it in a more chill state and then try it also with more folks around.
It will be really interesting to see what he does as we get more like a trial situation. I’m looking forward to learning what he needs with FEO’s & NFCs.

ParticipantHi,
I can see why you don’t teach RDW classes. 馃檪 That totally makes sense. Thanks for your input regarding the low plank versus the angles required for full dog walk height. I’d wondered about how that would affect striding. It looks like Katarina Poplidnik has a class coming up, but it also looks like it might be really hard to get into. There’s a ranking procedure with former students, former auditors, previous privates, etc. So if you don’t mind poking around, I’d appreciate any options you can share as “may the odds be ever in your favor” may not be in mine. (bad Hunger Games reference :). Thanks for your thoughts!

ParticipantAnd here is our try at the second sequence. I still messed up the verbals even at the third time. I said the correctly when I walked it. – Dang it!!!
For both sets, I kept him in the car crate as I set the courses up, walked each course, and practiced bringing him in and out on a leash. – setting up for each of the 3 tries per sequence. He did really well with that.
I did open up the angle from 1 to 2 as you’ll see he struggled with it on the first try and I didn’t want that to become an issue. I figured next time, I’ll try setting it back.
Looking forward to your feedback.

ParticipantHere’s a try at sequence one once we went inside. I did try these a couple of times to clean up my part. 馃檪

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here is our first attempt at the TSA game. I tried to pretend it was like a trial with waiting for folks. It was really interesting. I felt his arousal and focus go up as we got close to the gate so that is really good to know. I tried adding in a few extra volume games there with food to get him focused back. Let me know if I did the right thing or if I should try something else. It’s our first try at putting it all together so looking forward to your feedback.
It will be fun to try the other games that you talked about during tonight’s zoom call :).
Oh yea, sorry the leash coming off and going on wasn’t in the video, but he seemed to do really well with that part. I’ll get a wider camera angle next time. 馃檪

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I realize this is off-topic, and if you don’t have time I totally understand. 馃檪 The next session of our running dog walk course hasn’t materialized as other priorities surfaced for them.
Since it’s my first time attempting it, I’m not sure if I’m totally off the mark with what I have so far. We were working wings around the exit. I’ve included a video of that arc’s endpoints. Any feedback you have is appreciated. I’m questioning if I need to focus more on getting a smoother stride (where or how many hits?) versus his understanding of hitting the mat and if the hits are deep enough (split rear foot)?
If you have someone(s) you recommend to follow up with online that would be great. (I saw weaves and teeters in your independent study but no dog walks/aframes :). Anyway, I’m kind of stuck so I thought I would reach out to see if you could point me in a good direction. Thanks for any help you can share and again I understand as it’s out of scope!

ParticipantThanks for the feedback, it makes sense. I could feel my second reps were better on getting some fixes in. So now I need to make that happen on my first reps :).
Sorelg
ParticipantThanks, that makes total sense both for including the Pink Panther lead out to increase arousal and adding in the start up routine he will see at trials “leash on, go to the first jump, leash off, line up”. We’ll give them both a try. We took a short break for the holiday, but have practices coming up. 馃檪

ParticipantThanks for the help with his “stickiness”. That makes sense so we don’t get frozen :).

ParticipantHi,
I did some online double checking and we don’t really have anything local (UT/ID) until end of Feb. We had a Jan show, but they moved it due to last year’s bad weather. But… weather dependent there are some 9-18 hrs away (NV, CO, WA).
I was also thinking I could probably set something up with the larger group to make it more like a fun match with an entry gate, dogs in line, pretend judge, etc. Not as good as FEO/NFC, but maybe helpful? I don’t know of any fun matches locally.
I was also wondering when working through the NFC work, do you move forward within one trial if the dog is successful or do you try and keep the same routine through the trial you are at?
I was thinking about this as I know we have limited local trials until April-ish. Thanks!
