ParticipantThis pattern game was new for both of us. So we’re still in the backyard with it. I was thinking of giving it a go tonight for the first time at the small practice yard.

ParticipantHere’s our first pattern game and then the volume dial. We had done both of these earlier so I reviewed them at home and then took them to our usual training spot.
I included both food and toys for the volume dial so you could see both. One question I had about the volume dial. Do we want to try and discover the sweet spot or do we want to intentionally ramp up higher arousal so it becomes more like a trial? Or maybe both?
I’m really trying to figure out when to use toys versus food and what will work best for different situations.
Another thing I wonder about is he’s a pretty serious boy about working. I know you saw how he goes out and sits by jumps like he knows where to start. LOL So I’m wonder if it’s better to set him up and go, or add in games before so he’s more with me? Anyway, just trying to learn how to read him.

ParticipantHere are some lead-outs and lines with the larger space. I was planning on getting to the rear crosses but ran out of time. I should have started with them. Usually, the person after me doesn’t arrive on time, but this time they did.

ParticipantHere’s the zig-zag foundation jump work with the bounce jumps. He’s seen this at home before so I backtracked a bit for moving locations and finished with the jumps like they are at home.
Two questions. How often do you show this to them compared to the other jump grids and do you keep the number of jumps always at 2 with this grid?

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here is video of the concept transfers for serpentines. I realized when uploading videos tonight that I’m getting “mushy” with my start-line cues and need to clean them up. I get focused on what I’m working on and am forgetting to separate out getting to position, verbal, and motion. Is there a way you remember to keep start lines at the forefront when you get in the moment of training something else? I might need more brain memory. LOL
I also feel we have fallen behind with the times we’ve had to lay off for a bit. I’m at that point where the old peer pressure is trying to kick in. A training friend is bringing out their pup (~ same age) at the fall shows and the things I still need to train seem to be getting bigger. I’m in Leslie’s jumping class. I want to support his form/strength foundation given his shoulder history, and I started mat work for his running dog walk with Jordan but it seems like there is a lot to put into place. And I don’t want to rush things as I start to try and put our teamwork together. I really appreciate your feedback and hopefully, I can get caught up before your transition class. Thanks for offering that! I really wanted to try what we did in the live class in a larger space, so you’ll see that video, but I still have to get to many of the games from the past couple of weeks.
Here’s the sepr concept transfer. I was happy with how well he did with understanding serps. He tries really hard in everything I do with him.

ParticipantWeek 6 Tunnel Entries and Exits
I gave this one another go yesterday morning. See if this is any better. 🙂 I switched out the toys to tugs and took out the throwing. Let me know what you think.
On the wraps tunnel exits: I wasn’t sure if he should see me already turned back or see the motion of me turning back? I included a video of each so hopefully, that question makes sense. I didn’t try rears as the space was a bit cramped (mostly for me running into the patio LOL).
I was watching your video on the teeter bang game and I was thinking about teeter end behavior. For a dog his size/build, what are the pros/cons of a nose touch versus a paw touch as a teeter end behavior? Is there something else you would consider? I was wondering what will help him the most and aid with the weight shift. Thanks and looking forward to the live class tomorrow!

ParticipantThanks, Tracy
That helps me understand where we are headed with the verbals. on serps. It makes sense :).

ParticipantI was watching the serpentine concept transfer video and had a question about verbals.
I understand the first “left” or “right” verbal as the initial direction change (Ex. out of the tunnel and then the direction into the first serp jump). If my understanding is correct, a serp is a “left then right” turn or “right then left” turn. Do you end up using two verbals or just the initial turn verbal? Is completing the serp part of the larger left/right or right/left context? Hope my question makes sense :).

ParticipantHi again,
I was watching the video above one more time and an overall question came up in my mind. I noticed he is looking at me quite a bit on most of the different types of turns and then once he knows, he tends to speed up.:). Is this because overall I’m late with either physical/verbals, his learning/understanding phase as putting these together is new, both reasons? or something else? I wanted to ask since as I watched it from start to finish, it jumped out as a general trend :). Thanks!

ParticipantHere is our work from the other day with week 6 and the different exits from the tunnel.
Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and your feedback. 🙂

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We’re back :). We ran into a couple of health injuries that laid us off for a few weeks. Poor Kótaulo ripped off his dew claw and banged it up, but we got everything treated and he’s back to his fun-loving self. Luckily I coordinated my sick leave with his LOL, so we are both ready to get back to playing the games.
This first video is back from week 4 (double blinds) prior to the misstep. I figure we’ll pick up where we left off and try some of the newer games too.
Most of this is me trying to figure out my timing…… too early, too late….. still working on “just right”. LOL

ParticipantThese are the three wing ladders.
Looking forward to your feedback before adding the tunnel back in and trying the last two games :).
Thanks for the help during the live class to figure out what he needed from me (looking back and pointing) to get these going. Hopefully, we’re both starting to get a bit of an idea about them.

ParticipantHi, Thanks for the live class, it was fun. 🙂
It seemed like a refresher on the “dig-dig” skill would help, so Thurs/Fri I just added value for it with a wing in the house.
This morning we took it back outside :). I didn’t want to lose the cooler temp setting up the tunnel, so I used a couple of wings. I also figured it might help before adding back in the tempting tunnel :).
Here are the two wing exercises.

ParticipantThe details are really helpful. It felt totally awkward when I tried to switch from race track to wrap so your comments help explain why I felt weird there. Cool:). And then looking. LOL. I could feel he was like “what???” So that helps where that felt like a “stall out” and help up my confidence to get my body turned around. Thanks!!!!!
Sorelg
ParticipantThanks, for the details. I still find rear crosses to be the hardest for me. 🙂 Next time less polite and more running up his little tail! LOL I’ve been trying to do the same with Túlka and it’s helping with her too.
