ParticipantHappy New Year!
I have been training but failing to send my video. I have tons! I was not sure if this class is closed. I think Wink is doing quite well and I have her up to 16 inches.
If the class is closed, can I ask some questions that are unclear from your handout?
I chose to move the jump height up versus flatten. Is my goal to get her up to 24inches. I’ll admit, I tried her at 20 and she did great. Once at 24inches, I go back to working on flattening the jump and move the height back to 8 inches. Do I go all the way up to 24in again before flattening it some more.
Adding a 3rd jump? When do I do this? I did the same progression with the backside and she is at 16in with me moving more. Do I go all the way up to 24 and then try to flatten the jump. Only add the 3rd jump when it is flatten?
If this class is closed, can I book an online private/phone call? I do feel committed to continue to work on this and I want to make sure that I am doing it right.
Thanks! Hope you had a wonderful holiday! We are drowning in NorCal.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I have this jump work on my training rotation. Sorry for the video quality (you’ll need to ff through a bit). I had my good friend training with me today so there was chit chat in the video b/c we haven’t seen each in awile. Sorry.
For comparison I put my last session from Thursday and today’s (Tuesday) on there.
A few questions …
I did take your rec and move the first jump to 8 and the second to 12 for a warm-up but I was getting 100% bounce jump at 12 and consistently adding a stride at 8. If you think I should go back to 8, I will do so. I have been starting her at 12 b/c she has been consistent with the bounce. Today was the first day that she ticked a few bars. I didn’t notice them but my friend told me.
Regarding the push to the backside, where should I be starting? I noticed that I was moving furhter back b/c I would normally sned my dog from a distance and then today I thought, “Maybe Tracy wants me to be in the middle of the first bar for proofing?” Also, walking or running? Wink has pretty good backside sends but I don’t think that is the point of this exercise:-).

Tuesday Zig Zag
Thursday Push (first time doing push)
Tuesday Push
Right now, I am just looking for bounce jumping and knocked/ticks bars. Wink sometimes looks awkward to me but I am no expert in jumping.
Thanks!

ParticipantGot it.
One last question. On the backsides, do I need to play around with the spacing or should I stick with 6’6″ spacing between bars?
Stacey Campbell
ParticipantHi Tracy,
Just paid for my continuation.
I am a little unsure about my next steps. I did 2 more zig zag sessions with Wink and she did FANTASTIC. She looked so much more confident on the first rep. I will get a video tomorrow and send.
I am not sure what you mean by the comment below. Is this referencing the Zig Zags? What do you mean by playing around with the backsides?
I am glad she likes the new toy and is doing so well! You can start to play around with the backsides (lower the bars, though, and place the toy out past the landing spot rather than run with it, because she is going to leave you in the dust :))
Also, I am not sure what you were referencing when talking about the head turns? You reference a bar so I don’t think I used a bar on the click for head turn around the stanchion. Are we talking about two different things or are you referencing the Zig Zag exercise?
The head turn was interesting – she is pushing herself out on those turns to shape the turn by moving further from the wing rather than right towards it. If a bar was there, she would be on trhe far side of the bar! I scrolled back to look at what she was doing in earlier sessions, and she was a little closer coming in to the wing on the left turns and a LOT closer coming in on the right turns So she might need a little chiro adjustment or trigger point massage? In terms of training, you can start her closer to the wing just to re-visit that first step of getting close to the wing, but I would wait to make sure she was not out or sore anywhere – she might be changing her position to compensate.
Again, I am not sure how to progress forward with Zig Zag if she is doing well. See below is what my thoughts are according to your video.
Keep bar at 12 and slight increase distance of jumps? Right now at 6’6″. Start with toy stationary and then move to moving. To help her out lower first bar to 8″.

ParticipantAbsolutely no worries. I appreciate the message. Have fun!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I have been busy training. Weird, I posted something on Tuesday. Perhaps, it did not go through b/c of my location at the time? HMMMM. Anyway, below are vidoes from 2 different sessions. I have so much more video but thought I would send after a week of trying to get this sorted. Wink has really struggled with the zig zag when I am on her right shoulder. I had to play around with the distance (6’6″) and increased the height to 12.Started with stationary and then went to moving. The other factor is that she really LOVES that new toy (bought at the Open). This was suppose to be for a future puppy but it probably won’t make it that long. This morning was the first time that she was successful on the first rep with the moving toy. As mentioned, she has has pretty much been 100% when I am on her left shoulder. I will be interested to hear your thoughts on the zig zag.

12/1: https://youtu.be/IK-AxisuYpsHope you had a nice T-Day! Not sure if you are at Cynosports or EO Try-outs. Obviously, I am not at either. I have a really hard time putting Wink on a plane again so soon. She travels well but I get incredibly stressed. I am sad to not go but realistically, I don’t think she is fast enough to make the team. Still fun to run the courses:-).
Best,

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Good to see you last week. I can’t believe it has been 2 weeks since I’ve been on here. I always like to give my dogs a week off from training/agility after a big event but now I am ready to dive back in.
I don’t think I’ll be done by the end of November so will you offer this class again (right after :-)? How long will the material be available after the class closes? Could I pay you privately to look at my videos for feedback? I know you are a busy woman so let me know. I really am committed to completing these exercises.
Btw, I thought Wink did pretty good on the bars at the Open. Her a-frame is another story … haha. Always room for improvement.
Best,
StaceyStacey Campbell
ParticipantLooking at the video again, she has a lot of handler focus. Pop into heel/side position and look at me. I am not surprised b/c we have used cato boards for obedience work. I think the toy on the floor will help.
Question about rewards in this exercise.
do you reward the sit? Or do I reward the sit with moving forward to the toy on the ground? Do both and vary?
Stacey Campbell
ParticipantBtw, I forgot to add the toy target. I will try that tomorrow on the wrap.

ParticipantPlease excuse my Halloween attire. Taking my daughter out after I went into the building.
Zig Zag
The one thing that I would change is my set-up. The course in our room did not allow me to run the longer side. I think this would be better for her jumping. The toy was close to the wall or I did not have a lot of room to continue to move.Stationary toy with me moving to it. I did a few warm-ups w/o movement. The second, I added movement, it caught her off guard. This happened in the round when I used a moving toy. She failed once and then got the rest.
Toy + movement
Organized sit with stanchion. I thought she looked better today.

ParticipantI got a quick session in this morning. I think I need to go back and review your videos b/c I thought I was clear on what to do and then fumbled around a bit.
Beginning zig zag at 8 inches. Do I only work on this 1x/week? I didn’t think she looked confident. Do you stick with R+ being stationary and work on raising the bar? Or do you add motion first and then raise the bar?
Organized sits w/ stanchion (fumbled on mehcnaics on this one)
Orgaznized sits w/ stanchion (handler along the side. I struggled with this b/c it was hard to get her to go around. Wink wasn’t sure what to do w/o a verbal.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I can’t believe it has been a week. I was single parenting last week along with a UKI trial:-). I swear I have worked on stuff but too lazy to videotape. I did snap a few things yesterday. I probably will wait to continue to move forward until after the Open. I am leaving next Saturday.
I really hope you extend this class and I would even pay additional cost to continue. I like the exercises just hard to focus on this stuff right before a big event. Please, please, please!!!!

On a side note, I do arrive at facility on Monday. I am happy to help with course building.

ParticipantPlease don’t hate me b/c of these videos and get ready to use the fast forward button:-)
This was a lot harder to do than I thought. I am really bad actor and I felt like I had to pull off the super bad handler. In the moment, I am sure I would win an Oscar but not here.
Foundation: Jump proofing
Observations on why the bar comes down at trials.
1. Overuse of Wink’s name (OH THIS IS A BIGGIE).
2. Too big of physical cue for what was needed (you’ve witnessed this).
3. Late turn
4. Crowding the jump/in her wayBoth sessions the bar is set at 12 inches. I only had 1 bar (late turn) and 1 tick (crowding).

ParticipantBelow is moving target. Wink has a lot of impulse control, maybe too much. She is a 6y/o dog so huge amount of experience with remaining off of something until cued. I took her out today to work her in a VERY challenging location with the family. The golf course across the street causes a huge level arousal along with my husband’s b/c there.
On a side note, I did a huge amount of foundation jumping with a stationary toy.Tervs are very handler focus/up right jumpers so I used it to create more forward focus, obstacle drive and more extention in jumping. I think I did achieve that to some degree but perhaps I could have gotten better results with a moving toy. I do think she has pretty good form for a Terv but obviously there is room for improvement:-).

Moving target 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9LFyEF9cJAZig Zag session 1: I put the stanchions 5 feet apart. I am pushing it? Also, looking at my video, I am not sure that my delivery of R+ is correct.
Organized sits on a plank session #1: Yes, I am working on a sidewalk. Probably not an approved surface.

Lead with your head w/ Wing 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXxQ2xvzxosNot sure I am delivering R+ correctly on this one. Normally, I would toss away from me to encourage a tighter turn around the wing. Assuming we are still just mark/reward head turn. Please correct me.
