ParticipantGreetings! I hope you had a good travel day today!
I have several videos from a recent trial. The first video is T2B (first run on Friday). He started fast and had a 29 second run. Somehow, I pulled him off the jump following the first A-frame.
Grady became increasingly uncomfortable with the teeter as the weekend progressed. This is Saturday’s FAST run (79 points, 3rd place). The teeter didn’t seem to be an issue.
T2B on Sunday was a different story with the teeter…
I’m not sure if he is looking at John, the leash runner in the yellow shirt. He was the leash runner for most of our runs. Good distraction practice, but also annoying at times. This is STD on Sunday…the judge was adamant that we were ready to start early. I had Grady’s leash off when the judge and John decided that the teeter needed adjusting…we played…1 short clip of delay and then the teeter performance…
I need to work turns off the dog walk at the end of a course😁
Week 2 STD Course 1…basically a late night building the course and practice. It didn’t fit as well as last week.
Week 2 Jumpers 1
Week 2 Jumpers 2
Sorry for the huge dump of videos…once again, my mom is in the hospital. She had pneumonia and that is better, but her A-fib medications are hard to regulate (heart rate going from 120 down to 30😳)

ParticipantWrong video for Standard 1 1st attempt
Here is the correct video

ParticipantStandard #2 redo…
We almost had more difficulty with the 360 backside wrap today. Now I understand my preference/default to a push slice on most premier courses
Standard #1
1st attempt:
Last attempt:
Went to the training facility at 9:30pm to build the jumpers course. We ended at about 10:45 and had to rebuild what was set up. No time for jumpers course 2😁
Jumpers #1
1st attempt:
I left out the backside at 14…oops!
2nd attempt:
After watching the videos, I feel like many of my verbal cues could be earlier

ParticipantHere are links to the sequences…
Carol and I set up the STD course in a smaller area (60’ x 100’), used 4’ bars, tried to have appropriate distances😁 it is noisy due to the AC and loud fans!
STD #2: Grady had 2 real attempts, took the A-frame (his favorite!) in the second video, had a bar down (usually not an issue)in his last attempt. I need to practice his backside 360 wrap!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Grady and I had a lesson with Cassie Schmidt on Saturday. I told her about your course. She was impressed with his ability to transition from outside the ring to start lines and also to rewards outside of the ring. Cassie mentioned this to one of her students who contacted me for more information. Do you have an independent study course that is similar or will you open this course again?
She has an absolute rockstar Papillon.I recovered from Covid, but still have a cough. My mom is finally back at her memory care facility and is doing well.
I’m looking forward to Camp…

ParticipantSounds good…I usually go on and don’t fix mistakes and should have just gone with the A-frame. I intended to either do a blind or FC after the teeter and Grady was fast off of the table.
I’ve been working on Finding my Face as well as some jump grids so that Grady can easily go from extension to collection with tight turns. We always are working on turns off of the DW and A-Frame.
I signed up for a working spot at CAMP😁
My plan for this Saturday was to head to Blue Springs for 6 FEO runs at an ASCA Trial. Unfortunately, my mom got Covid and so did I. Two years, 3 vaccines and no Covid…I spent a lot of time trying to get my mom to eat and walk (my mask on…)on Saturday and Sunday…so mad

ParticipantThank you for the feedback! We had fun setting up the Kryptonite practice!
Here is the missing FAST video…
He barked a lot and I thought I might have gotten him too aroused. The backside on jump 2 was supposed to be practice for Premier STD. The run was a bit of a mess with great weaves at the end…The Kryptonite video when Grady froze is on Carol’s phone. I will try to find it…
He was staring at me and would not move. All the distractions were just too much! I think I finally went back and tossed a treat to get him to move.I didn’t realize that we were on camera and got a good laugh over his flying ears!
Sometimes I think Grady’s fur is almost touching the contact zone and is mistaken for a paw.
Here is the Standard run from Saturday…this is the course where he went straight to the table after the DW.
I got distracted when he went from the teeter to the A-frame, then took off toward the exit, called him back and finished with a few jumps
Kaia is an awesome dog…but she doesn’t have a start line in a trial. Grady running through a tunnel gets Kaia to about the same level of arousal as in a trial for start line practice. Barb can finish a run and tug with Kaia’s leash and be a great distraction for Grady when he is at the start line (like those handlers who are slow to leave the ring)

ParticipantGreetings!
The small, yet very clean horse arena in Springfield, MO had some distractions for Grady. I lost him several times to open spaces in corners, off course tunnels, floating toward the judge, etc. By the end of the 3 days, I think we had better connection and I realized that about 1 minute is good for the pre-run volume dial. Even with only 2 dogs before me in a JWW run it could turn into 3-4 minutes or longer because you know, shit happens🤣 but we now have tools for re-engagement!I will also admit that I was a bit distracted with trying to find a rehab facility that would accept my mom and her insurance. She was discharged from the hospital and went to the rehab facility on the Friday of this trial at 6pm. She continues to improve and will hopefully go back to her previous memory care facility in about 10 days.
This series of videos is FAST on 5/6/22:
He barked a lot and I thought I might have gotten him too aroused. The backside on jump 2 was supposed to be practice for Premier STD. The run was a bit of a mess with great weaves at the end…
Post-run cookies:
I have a couple more videos from Friday to find…
On Saturday, I pretended that my FAST run was FEO. We had the wrong side of the tunnnel in the send bonus, but Grady was fast and happy. He didn’t seem to mind the judge as he headed for the weaves. We had a lot of time left..
Post-run cookies:
JWW… this was a Q, we had some extra time due to the float toward the judge. I almost pulled Grady off the line to the jump after the weaves….
Post-run JWW:
I have to find the STD video… on this run he took the first jump to DW and then straight to the table instead of a curve to the right…it was an, “I’ve got it mom and I’m sure that I am right” moment
Sunday T2B pre-run and run (this was a Q, but he spent about 6-7 seconds on a float…):
Most of my planned front or blind crosses turned into rear crosses
JWW 5/8/22: I really liked my fix and go in this run…I was able to run away from the start line😁
STD Pre-run and run 5/8/22
I was quite a bit ahead on the dog walk and didn’t indicate the slight right turn early enough or Grady thought it was the end of the run. One of the individuals that I occasionally take lessons from said that the dog walk was awesome, but we actually missed the contact zone…judge also missed the call
Post-run:
Cartoon and All Business start line…
I’m not sure which one is better…I also want to work more with running away…it worked well on the fix and go above!
Kryptonite distraction with Kaia, Grady, Chuck
On one of the videos I recorded on Carol’s phone Grady absolutely froze on the start line when Chuck was growling when playing😳

ParticipantNever mind…that video is already included…not sure which one is missing🤦🏼♀️

ParticipantHer numbers continue to improve!
Yes, I agree, probably too much pressure…
Here is Friday’s JWW run…it was a Q but could have been faster.
I will continue to work on Week 3 games and add the new ones…I like the cartoon sneaky lead out!
susanrobinson
ParticipantHe was super excited at the FAST FEO and totally flew off the teeter. Oh my!
susanrobinson
ParticipantWell, I did the first run on Friday’s FAST course as FEO with the intent of practicing weaves. I even planned where I was going to stop and reward him. I got so caught up in the moment that I did not stop and reward🤦🏼♀️ oops!
Grady FAST FEO 4-22-22 https://youtu.be/ZXQHzGYyLZc
He had a nice JWW run, but could have been faster…it is a crowded place around the ring entry. Notice that he didn’t want to take off when I said okay.
Pre-run https://youtu.be/_jX6QJCUtBk
Run https://youtu.be/RP0Hg12X-UA
Saturday’s FAST-I turned it into FEO with no toy and just basically ran a circle. Notice his a-frame to weaves. He got the entry nicely here, but was distracted in STD…
Pre-run https://youtu.be/Kdm2EXMr3TA
Run https://youtu.be/qtbO-2nmkgw
He heads toward his people behind the ring gates
STD pre-run and run
JWW run 4-23-22 https://youtu.be/6TQ4OVFvhbM
No one available to tape the pre-run. Play this with sound…he popped out of the weaves when his leash was dropped in the bucket…a new thing to proof. Sounds like food landing in a metal bowl…
He did not sniff the turf, but was definitely gazing at people…
No runs on Sunday. I got a call from my 89 yr old mom’s memory care facility at 6:30am Sunday and headed home as she had rolled out of bed and was headed to the ER😳
No head injury, but she had a UTI, was dehydrated, and was in acute kidney failure. She is better today and her creatinine numbers are headed in the right direction. It turns out that a medication she was given for shingles (that started 1 week earlier) was toxic to her kidneys…susanrobinson
ParticipantThe good thing is that I am much less likely to get flustered or annoyed by something that happens before the run because we now have tools! I had this vision of the leash runner picking up his leash and running away as I was doing a lead out, so I made sure to ask her if she would wait until my dog left the start line to pick up the leash🤣
I have a trial in Blue Springs with a couple of FEO opportunities this weekend. At this point, his fuzzy blue treat pouch is probably the best toy for tugging, but he is generally less likely to tug in the ring. He is getting better at tugging in the ring during practice, so maybe that will transfer to the trial ring. He will at least be excited to see the treat pouch! I make tug toys, so I am always searching for his favorite toy. When I finish one, I toss them on the floor and he will carry them all to the living room and will usually pick out a favorite to tug with. I think I need to make it more of a priority to engage him in tugging…the latest tug that he liked, I put back with his stash and someone grabbed it to purchase🤦🏼♀️
I need to revisit engaged chill…

ParticipantSunday…we started with T2B…
Once again, I was lined up and ready to go waiting for “Go” and the timer is pointing to the back of the ring where the judge was having a conversation with someone in the other ring…seriously??
Grady sat patiently and had a surprisingly quick start and took the off course tunnel after the A-frame (so much fun🤣). We got a bit discombobulated after the next tunnel, but I was pleased that he re-engaged and ran fast to the end. He popped the weaves. Weaves toward the last jump were an issue and usually are not an issue.
T2B https://youtu.be/hUlekmn_CwQCarol Baron, who was videoing for me left (we were separated by many dogs, so that worked well!) There were not many people left…a friend who was working the gate videoed for me. But my phone locked at the beginning. Do she didn’t get the beginning. It was an excellent start line. The leash runner was a bit excited so I asked her to not pick up the leash until my dog left the line. Grady started fast and even kept moving through the double pinwheel between the A-frame and tunnel. Just one thing…he popped out of the weaves🤦🏼♀️ 64 second course that he ran in 43 seconds. Still an excellent run. Did I tell you that he loves dog walks and A-frames?
