ParticipantWe went all the way to Wisconsin for this one!!
Jumpers Course 1 – First Try – Gotta Smell the Smells – https://youtu.be/7u5NlRRgspg Yep. Not sure I didn’t support this as well as he had to smell that smell!
Jumpers Course 1 – Second Try – Gotta Smell the Rewards – https://youtu.be/ZaMljGb-Eus
I wanted to just try this again before doing the whole course and reward him for taking the jump. I *SHOULD* have probably rewarded him after taking the jump, but I don’t think I thought of it like that at the time.Jumpers Course 1 – Third Try – https://youtu.be/hT62j32poj8
I don’t think he saw the weaves at all. I’m not sure what I could have done to make it more clear for him. I think I also need to stop talking to him over bars…Jumpers Course 1 – Last Try Best Try – https://youtu.be/9_Rs_i6lRdE
Tried to change up handling a little. Took a knee slipping trying to get lots of decel and a tight cross. π I wish I would have handled those last three jumps a couple of different ways! I may set that up later.Jumpers Course 2 – First Try – https://youtu.be/yh9czaoXl9w
I left the video as a whole so you can see how I re-tried the parts we missed. I think he was just so set on that tunnel that when I gave him the cue, I didn’t have the connection I thought I did, so the cue meant nothing. He’s such a great boy!!Jumpers Course 2 – Second & Thirdish Try – https://youtu.be/U6tRvyACeN4
These were filmed by my mom and she did a really great job being my tripod! She missed a bit in this one, but thankfully it was the easier handling parts. π I think my IN IN command came late and that was pretty hard to get him to come in. I think I may need to start proofing while I’m ahead of him? What would you recommend to try to make that easier? In the next video, I just try some different handling options there.Jumpers Course 2 – Handling Options – https://youtu.be/nGlq6oi9gJ4
I think the double push, when timed better felt smoother than the threadle slice. So many handling options! Also, after re-reading the hints section, I should have wrapped G to the right instead of the left when entering the tunnel (13-14). It seemed like the right was so far away from the tunnel, I wrapped left and it worked well. Could it have been faster wrapping right? Maybe.
Thank you for so many really fun courses!!!

ParticipantThanks so much, Tracy!! He works so hard! Definitely so true about that bar falling! He is anticipating a lot, that’s for sure! And I had no idea how much the other obstacles are visual distractions!

ParticipantWeek 1 – Raise Your Game Challenge
Step 1-
Sequence 1 – https://youtu.be/bfplaHKM-GY – This one felt a little weird. I don’t think I walked it enough and when I got to 6 I didn’t know if I was wrapping or slicing. Try 2, I did my blind a little too aggressively and pulled him between the jumps. I think I tried to go for a little more of a slice on that last #6, but saw it was going to be a wrap and just went with it. I wish I had tried again for that slice though!Sequence 2 – https://youtu.be/4eXxCaKk1Jk – Not sure why that bar keeps coming down. I think the ground was on a slight slant where it was located and it was only later that I thought I should probably move it.
Step 2-
Sequence 1 – https://youtu.be/xFqyEWrC8l8 – What a good boy! I got all my crosses in and was able to successfully cue the slice on #6. π Not sure why I filmed this twice… https://youtu.be/ynpfWWKqkOs – bonus goodness.Sequence 2 – https://youtu.be/Z4VwMvvPFdE – I didn’t want to drill this a lot, so when he missed jump #4, I just resent but then got the turn to the right, but we were able to treadle cue the correct side of #5. What a good boy!
Sequence 3 – Will upload later, I apparently reached my limit for uploading videos for the day!! LOL
Step 3-
Sequence 1 – https://youtu.be/4YAPwHTdQQg – You can tell we’ve been practicing our backsides!! Other try, not quite perfect, but I didn’t want to drill a mistake on me not supporting that last jump.Sequence 2 – https://youtu.be/eGwlGyu-STM – A couple bars our first try and then just that weird bar that kept giving us problems at the end.
Sequence 3 – https://youtu.be/Hm3r1cd6nvU – First try, got that weird bar again. Didn’t get that cool layer move so we did it on our second try. π

ParticipantWeek 1 Jumper Pop Outs!
Sequence 1 – https://youtu.be/mMf3NlZmjwI – So I numbered this course wrong, #4 isn’t correct. On the first try, I supported the tunnel entrance too long and realized I’d need to rear 4, so it turned out to be a little closer than I’d like with him coming out of that tunnel! Second try, I layered 1-3 more and was able to pick him up on my right arm. However, I didn’t show motion to #5 enough and got an off course. Last try with more connection took him off the off course. π
Sequence 2 – https://youtu.be/jYqY6IQxY94 – Try 1: Got a treadle off course #1/6 jump instead of #5. I think I gave too much open arm shoulder to the off course before turning to engage #5. I decided to practice the #4 to #5 and finish the sequence and he did much better when I kept my body turned toward #5. Then I tried a two arm turn cue on #4. And then for our last try, I think I successfully completed my first spin???? I don’t think I’ve ever really done those before. He seem to read it really nicely.
Sequence 3 – https://youtu.be/CEdoLIEPNbA – We started with an off course a-frame to a perfect run! I started the third try with some additional jumps prior to the 1st jump to get a better idea of what the sequence would be like in the middle of a course and of course I got the off course jump instead of #3 tunnel. Did one last try and really connected after jump #2. What a good boy!
Sequence 4 – https://youtu.be/Z0fyfxvsLcw – He’s such a good boy! Gave it to me on the first try! The second time, I decided to take the 7 jump as a slice.

ParticipantThanks so much, Tracy!! You are so correct about setting those lines!!
Course #1 –
>>Having to go to the end of the teeter with him sets him on the line to the jump, and the here-tunnel pull/push is making him think you want him to go back out.>>
>> The FC at 12 looked good, and then definitely too much handling helping 13-14, made the blind really late π Then the first step off the teeter set him up to take the #4 jump. On the next video, you used more of a here cue and a threadle arm β how independent is his teeter? Ideally you would cue the teeter and take off, so when he exits the teeter you are most of the way to the tunnel β that will take out the off course possibility.I like to pretend my contacts are like straight tunnels: cue them, trust the dog to execute them, and leave π No helping at the exit π>>
I was definitely baby-ing his teeter. He has been leaving early and I am worried about the bounce ups hitting him. We have been retraining it with the touch, but I am noticing that when I say “touch” that is when he typically stops and rides the teeter down instead of running to the bottom. We have been redoing some of the exercises from your Terrific Teeters class, really working the driving to the bottom. Hopefully we’ll be able to get through it and I can leave him more confidently soon!Course #2 –
>>After the weaves, send to 8 but donβt go near it β send and leave so you can converge to the landing of 9 sooner, to set up the serp to the tunnel>>
Yes!! I noticed he took 8 really wide then landed so close to me and really had to get back out for 10, the tunnel.>>You ended by doing the 18-9-10 line, which looked lovely π If you get a change to run it again, check out the 18-19-20-21-22 line which is a little more challenging.>>
GD-it! I did not number the course correctly!! I thought it was weird ending at 18!! LOL. I may get another chance on Wednesday– fingers crossed! So awesome!! Thanks!! π

ParticipantYayayay!! Can’t wait to see Team Kal in action!!! π

ParticipantYay!!! MY FRIEND!!!! I can’t wait to watch your videos!!! <3 <3 <3
tabily
ParticipantGotcha! We will try and let you know!! Thanks Tracy!!
Also, what other classes are coming up? I have gotten really used to having some good drills from Agility University! π

ParticipantMakes perfect sense!
Sometimes I can keep his tunnel commitment true to the tunnel, while giving him additional verbals, but I feel like if I start actively changing positions when he’s that far away, that I may pull him off. I’ll have to try it and of course, we’ll have to work to building up to that. Do you have any tips or easy ways to help train this skill?
tabily
ParticipantThanks so much, Tracy!!
We will definitely work on trying to start those cues earlier, especially as he’s entering the tunnel and me cuing quicker with my off-arm for the switches. He really seemed to pick up the switch cue nicely!
You said above, “I think you were waiting for him to exit before starting the physical and verbal cues, but you can start the cues (the convergence, the arm, the verbal) before he goes in then repeat them as he is exiting β those will help get him to turn away.” What you’re saying is that I start to show him the start of my motion, aka what I expect from him (like a switch off arm) just prior to him entering the tunnel?
Also, when doing the #6 Combo 1, when you do the push to the backside and then enter the tunnel (2 to 3), that considered a “switch” but is it also a “switch” at 4 to 5?
Thanks again!! Really loved this course and I’m bummed we won’t be submitting the harder bonus challenges, but I think we really need to work on our backside wraps so its probably good not to put them to work so quickly into a tough exercise! π

ParticipantHi Tracy!! I agree– I definitely need to be using more motion for sure!
I tried to get all of the rest of the exercises in so we did some shorter sessions throughout the day. I forgot little baby was getting his troublepuffs removed this past Monday! So we may be out of commission for the rest of the month as he recovers.
Handling Challenges 5 – https://youtu.be/loF6128723c
I decided to re-try this one at the beginning of our session just because it was so challenging for so many OTHER REASONS for his little man brain! <3 I knew we could do better and I really felt like he was definitely WAYYYYY more connected.Handling Challenges 6 Part 1 – https://youtu.be/3Pozx92TmAc
Otherwise called, too much stuff in the yard and I have to keep calling you off things! LOL!! This session was a bit longer, but I didn’t have my tripod and my camera fell over at the end… You can hear that he was doing a good job though! LOL!Handling Challenges 6 – Combo 1 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xsrMpQbxYo
This was the only time we tried this combo and he did it wonderfully!!Handling Challenges 6 – Combo 2 –
Try 1 – https://youtu.be/FU10D7MYhmE
Try 2 – https://youtu.be/q8G70gRkdQQ
While we were never able to get this one perfectly, I was really happy with where we ended up!Here is Handling Challenges 4 – https://youtu.be/K1NKiuSCCeg
I added some motion and he was able to easily see exactly what I was asking for. This was the LAST exercise we did that day, so I feel like his little brain really knew what I was asking for.tabily
ParticipantWorked on the handling drills #5 sequence the other day and I felt like they were really hard! I didn’t think he was really paying attention to what I was asking for. He broke his start line a couple of times and just did what he wanted to do, aka the tunnel. Now that I think about it though, we were gone for the weekend and this was his first practice out, same day we got home. He may have just been really excited. LOL.
Handling Challenge 5 – Position 1 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD1XYNtg_ac – I think this one was the hardest for him. Again, maybe it just took him so time to settle into the exercises.
Handling Challenge 5 – Position 2 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-HLxr1kVmk – Better on these, but still really excited.
Handling Challenge 5 – Position 3 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cQRRo_TZ_k – I feel like this may have been his best one.
I wonder, after watching these, is my cue for the jump that I am physically crouching?
tabily
ParticipantThanks so much for the LIVE chat!! Question about Handling 5 section:
For the Bonus pieces, do you have any videos of these you could share? I’m not sure I understand how the backside wrap would work replacing the slice. Also, in some of the handling combos, putting the start jump where the handler is doesn’t seem like it makes a good path for the dog? I may be thinking about it ALL wrong!
Thanks!!
tabily
ParticipantSo, even though I asked the question, I decided the tunnel and jump were already out there, let’s just go for it! He totally knew what I was talking about! π
Switch Away Skills Part 1 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cm36Z31y_z8 – He seemed to really get the turn to the tunnel. My discrimination is him going up our yard ramp to his toy, which is a big reward for him and a big distraction sometimes!! Curious, why don’t you call that a “switch” in your example?
(Also, I just found the slow-mo button! Holy hell! That is so awesome!!!)
Switch Away Skills Part 2 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgpSqY3TY4Y – He seemed to get the switches really well!
Switch Away Skills Part 3 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cpu1VbekW4 – Definitely got the backsides down, even when I use the wrong command. Oh me oh my!
