Thanks again, Tracy!! We will be doing more of these later this week! I will try the slices today and then do this set again tomorrow. They are more fun than I thought they would be because we can just go out for a few minutes and I feel like I’m contributing to better jumping skills! 🙂

Yesterday we did the ZigZags: PNdq6zR1HrI

We did some teeter work before and then had a good break before coming out to try these. With the 4ft bars, I thought we’d be good, but I’m starting to think I may need to go down to the 3ft bars? He is not giving me the bounce once we get flatter. Additionally, he tried to cheat the one time too! I think he just needs more experience at the slightly flatter set up before we try to really make it flat? Let me know if you think we should try the 3ft bars next time.

    Thanks!!

Thank you for your feedback!! I can definitely see where my touching him caused a rolled hip– once you pointed it out of course!! Lol! I will refrain from touching him and use cookies to get him in position next time.

I put him a but out of place on the bar (not parallel to the bar) because it was a 5ft bar and I was worried he wouldn’t be able to clear it in one bounce. Next time I’ll have our usual set up with our 4ft bars and get him in a better position. I’m excited to start making the jump angle flatter!!

Our theme yesterday was: WRAPS!! We did front and back sides. I feel weird in my positioning in both, but especially the back side. Should I always be at the wing? In the front sides, I feel like I get trapped there. Is that OK? In the back sides, we are eventually supposed to be moving away from the wing as we would do outside of this exercise?

Thanks so much, Tracy!! I will definitely keep an eye out on his lefts! Its funny once you start to break it down, how much you can glean out of our training! Should I keep with these Organizers or bring in the Backside Wraps and Slices now?

Thanks for the clarification on the Zig Zags. I will keep it to two a week and keep them short (like his legs!)

Last night I did a session of the Zig Zags – Adding Jumps – https://youtu.be/Uu6FG_dUjXU (please note this may still be processing my edits as we played tug excessively throughout the session!)

He did really well!! Although I think my video placement was not super helpful! He seemed to only add one stride one time and I was surprised as I had to modify my layout because I only had 5′ bars!! Oh my! We had been using 4′ bars at my other training location and I couldn’t get my weave poles off of their base! Boo. But he adjusted nicely and I think next time I will start with the bars’ angle large and let him do once back and forth and then lessen the angel after and finish the reps like that. I did move them out for the last two times just to see how he’d do. We played with a ball in between these turns when he did really good as a super bonus reward, but I don’t think I will do that again when we do this exercise.

Also, when we would be coming toward the camera, there was a wall, so he had to power across the jumps and stop himself before the wall. Had I thought more about where I put my set up, I would have realized this and fixed it before starting! Next time I will be more mindful to give ourselves more room!!

On the last rep, I think he knocked the bar because I didn’t move the toy away fast enough. It was too close to the bar and he didn’t have room to get over.

Thanks so much for your feedback!!

I wanted to redo this exercise to try to add the target and get straighter entrances. I feel like he picked up the target fast, but still didn’t want to come in completely straight. You will see that as I move the “wing” he is wrapping and sometimes he still comes in on an angle. I can grab another wing to help me get through these exercises as it is actually just a wingless. Let me know if you think I need one over the other.

    Organizers – Front Side Wrap – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q36mAAnGxU

I thought he did really good with the target. He still wants to line up at the wing at an angle. He also seemed to want to face the target, which he did and tried to steal the treat, but then was better at it! Also, please note when apparently I had a piece of treat-looking gravel in my treat bag and he thank god refused to eat the rock. This happened twice and you can see me toss it away. LOL. So glad I do NOT have a rock eater!!

One thing that was strange was there were a few reps in the beginning where he adding a stride instead of jumping right over the bar. I was going to move the plank a bit closer in, but didn’t want to move him too far from the wing. He seemed to get it after a while so I left it. He was much better on the opposite side.

And just to reiterate — I rewatched the Zigzag – Adding Jumps video and you had said we should limit to one session and over the jumps 6 times once a week? I really overdid it last time then as those MM and toy sessions came from the same training session. So no wonder he was tired when I added the backside zigzags. If so, I will just limit to one session this time and make sure to make my reps count!

    Thanks!!

Thank you so much for your feedback! I incorporated it into my sessions and I think it is starting to help.

Foundations Moving Target / Zig Zag 1 On the Flat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2LE41Ejs7o
Decided to combo the moving target foundation game with the zig zag on the flat. I tried to make sure he kept his head down, but it seemed like it wasn’t all the way down all the time.

Zig Zags Adding Jumps – Using the MM! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CXhMXo5v5U
I lowered the bar to 4” as you suggested, switched from 5′ bars to 4′ bars since I kept the wing in the center, and began using the MM to try to keep his head down. He did a good job keeping his noggin’ down, but sometimes I think he wasn’t quite giving me “dolphin” form. What do you think? 😊

Zig Zags Adding Jumps – Using a Tug Toy! : https://youtu.be/4i4PAxZe73Y
I wanted to just compare a couple of reps using his tug toy to see if that changed his form at all compared to using the MM. Which do you think looks better? Should I use a combination of these in training?

    Organizers – (Fancy) Play List : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTvyz8csCCQ&list=PLiLCyEc5KNsOjGBdWqu09VOXK_7xoiXQ2
I did another session of “To the Plank” to try to get less of the rock back.

I followed this up with some “To the Wing!” and just finished the session with “Front Side Wrap”. I think when I do that one in our next session, I will use a target to make it more clear where the treat is. He’s not that good at finding treats in the grass. 😊
