ParticipantAnother leash, my wife is going to kill me LOL
My cue for the stopped contact is touch – I think that is what you were hearing while he was coming down
Catch means the reward is coming to you
Get it means you are going to go get the reward – prior to this class both were get it, so there is some retraining of me involved here. Much harder to unlearn a habit than to learn a new one. Bless Cody for his patience with all the retraining we do.
Question- I should also use my release word for the contacts, right? Break-catch, break- get it

ParticipantTugging on the leash is only a problem in a trial setting, everywhere else no problem
Like I said, the mat and a T ball are the only things he will reliably play with outside the ring. But if I bring a toy into the ring for an NFC training run, then all is good, he will play. Have not figured this one out yet.
Going to try “inserting the leash into the mat play. I’ll start with the mat and a bit of play and then add the leash on the mat. Have a CPE trial this weekend where I’ll play with this.
This video is how I primarily use ball reward
– catch while in position
– get it after the ball stops moving
– get it to a placed ball
– catch at a weave exit, tunnel exitI also use ball play at the end of sequences, but I’ll have him sit, I throw the ball and then release him after the ball stops moving. Is this actually rewarding the sequence or is this just some fun play?

ParticipantHey there Tracy
Did a ring rental this morning so we got some stuff to run by you1st part of this video is something I would really like to build on How great would it be to have the reward in the ring at a trial. He loves his tug leash until we introduce the trial environment and then noooo! Would love to figure this one out. Maybe keep working on building it’s value as high as possible while training in the hopes that it will override his trial brain? Any thoughts?
2ndpart is his relax mat play as I would see it in a trial environment. Problem here is finding room for the setup, where we trial is very tight and Cody and I together take up a bit of room. When we do play this game it is generally during other class walk thrus or course builds

Played around with placed reward this afternoon. Sending him past the ball to wrap the wing proved to be too much to soon, so we will keep working on it.I’m also switching back and forth between food and the ball here, never a problem for him. What can be problematic is getting him to tug if he knows a ball is in play – something else to work on

Participanthey there
This is where we are at with moving away from reward.I generally train this as a ring entry exit chain – place the cookie bowl together, on leash, enter the ring, a bit of work, leash back on, leave ring, where’s the cookies
My cue for the reward is cookies, which conflicts with cookies. Would using cookie bowl be enough of a differentiator? I’m thinking I would eventually fade the cookie and use just bowl.
1 oops in here, left it in for your entertainment, yes he’s proud of himself

ParticipantNot changing the cue will be a wonderful thing. Too many cues bouncing around in my poor head

ParticipantHey there Tracy
here’s a bit of where we are at with follow the reward. I’ve used following food a lot as a transport aide when moving thru tight areas, also in positioning his set ups. Never really had it on a cue other than “lets go” Need to think about what my cue for this is going to be
Looking forward to see where we are going to take this as a reward.

ParticipantI’ve played this mat game at some big seminars and have gotten some crazy looks. The credit for building this game goes to Cody, he would grab the mat as I was picking it up and I just let it build. Who’s in charge of what is reinforcing, he is.
Only problem with this game is I have to remember to close the door when showering- otherwise the mat might disappear, just kidding!

Looks like you might have missed my last post

ParticipantRemote reinforcement, working with the reward off of me would be #1

ParticipantHey there
Ball tosses outside the ring has the potential of getting us in hot water. A nose bop on a miss can easily put the ball 15 feet into the ring.
This video is our mat tug mat game. This we do use a lot ring side

ParticipantHey there Tracy
Here’s some of out toy play
1st clip – send to the ball, I’ve been using this instead Question is, what am I rewarding when I release him tot he ball?
The chain leading up to the ball play – or
Just the sit stay before the ball release?
You can also see some of his I’ve got the food and the ball, which one do I really want -always entertaining2nd clip – catch with a ball – 1st couple of reps always have the victory lap, then it fades
clip 3 – tug, again, the out can use a bit of work
We were at a trial this past weekend – did a bunch of work ringside on the food catch cue. Looks like it’s a good focus exercise for him
Looking forward to your thoughts

Here’s where we are at with the food games
My goal is going to be to get all my cues cleaned up. I do not use verbals for reward as much as I should and I do have cues with multiple meaning. More clarity would probably be goodFood Cues
Get It is my cue for tossed food or toy
Cookie from hand, never really had a verbal for this, just a presentation of my hand -going to use cookie as a verbal for this, although this may lead to a conflict with when I use food in a remote bowl for reward – get the cookies is my cue for accessing the bowl
Catch, never used a verbal for this other than get it – going to use “catch” as the new cue
Follow the hand, never used a verbal for this, going to use “follow”I have to keep a pace with rewards, any delay and Cody gets Operant with offering, you can see a bit of this in the food from hand game in the video. I did not ask him to down
Toy Cues
Get it has been my cue tug from hand -going to change this to “tug”
Take it is my cue for getting a dead toy or ball off the ground. No more chasing toys or balls for the boy. He has no regard for his body and he is 9 1/2. I worry about him getting hurt with his chase antics
Going to use “catch” for a tossed ball. these get presented so he can easily grab themWill get some video of our toy play next

ParticipantHey there, we are still plugging away. Did a rental today at a fund raiser for the training center we trial at. Here’s a run where my concentration was connection. The confusion after the teeter was 100% me, forgot the plan.
Let me know what you think
