Thank you – this has been really hard for me. I am not sure if this is what you meant or not, but I remembered to face the bar more like we did in strike a pose and that seemed to work for jump 2 and then she got 3. Was that what you meant? I sure am struggling with this. I could never get the turn from the third jump to reliably do the next line and I decided to not try to get her to the last jump.

I think I am going to stop on this sequence. I am not sure how to get to where I need to and to give her the cues she needs so hopefully the other sequences will be easier for us. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reminder on the correct line in the second sequence.

I tried sequence 3 today and it is a work in progress. I think we may have some holes in our training as this is a pretty common thing for her to do where she just goes around the jump. We haven’t done much of these longer sequences with more spacing. I could see that my position in some instances is way off, but not sure if that is always the case. We did lots of breaking things down into easier chunks and I think we will get there, but I would love to hear what you have to say.

Congratulations on your team’s flyball win! That’s awesome.

Thank you! I know that we need a lot more work on forward focus and that is something I can play with anywhere so will put that on the list. I am not sure why I can’t get my crosses done more quickly but I tend to stand around and be slow about them – this is an important thing for me to work on. I appreciate the feedback and reminders.

We did sequence 2 today and that was definitely easier for us. Here are all our tries with it.

Thank you. This morning I woke up and was laying in bed and thinking about the run and telling myself that I should have just kept going so she didn’t know she had made a mistake. Gah! I am glad that your feedback reminded me to do just that. Today I lowered the bars so she didn’t have to think about that too much and tried the sequence again. I felt like we had a lot more success but I still struggled getting my handling to be what it needs to be to cue her accurately. She was a very good girl.

Thanks for the feedback. She totally remembered the games and was more interested in the box initially than I had expected. I will keep doing the pattern games. As far as one of the other dogs being good role models they both are although Reilly can show some sensitivity to some noises. Jackson is pretty solid about everything.

I tried sequence 1 this afternoon and it did not go as expected. I really worked hard at getting the course built according to the map but maybe I had something wrong. She had a lot of trouble on this and we could never get it. This video shows two short sessions. I don’t think I was clear at all for #3 and I am not sure why I couldn’t cue #5 for her.

We did come out later and I tweaked the angles of a couple of jumps and lowered all the bars to make it easier. Unfortunately, my phone had a camera error and I did not get the video but we didn’t have any more luck although some of our problems were different ones. I am eager to hear what you can tell from the video and what ideas you have to help us both.

    Thanks Tracy.

We did the pattern game foundations today. The distraction we used was pretty mild.

Thank you! I did realize as I was working that I wasn’t turning and moving like I should. Thanks for the reminder. I wasn’t even aware of saying the verbal and throwing the toy at the same time, but can totally understand that it would be better to throw the toy after the verbal.

Well, nothing like an Encore performance. I tried some of the deceleration exercise. I couldn’t remember if I was supposed to stand still or start to turn so tried both (when I was back inside I saw that I should start to turn once she shows some collection). I wasn’t giving the verbal wrap cue until we added the tunnel. I think this will improved with some practice and work on my timing.

Is the Transition to Trials class the MaxPup 4 class? I won’t want to miss that one.

Thanks again – have a fabulous time at camp.

Thanks for the last feedback. I will try that.

I know that this is the last day to post, and I may have another video later in the day, but this is what we worked on this morning. This is the tunnel threadle exercise. I just did the first little bit with her since tunnels are so alluring.

I have loved all three of the Max Pup classes and thank you so much for your instruction, insight and encouragement in training. I have a much better foundation on Caper than I have had with our other dogs. I will miss this class, but feel like we have the tools to continue forward and I have a better idea on how to break things down and reward. I think I told you that I am not going to camp this year, but sure hope you are coming to Utah this fall for a seminar. Caper and I thank you again.

Hi Linda! Thank you so much for the comment about Caper. She is doing really well but has been so different than my other dogs that I have had to learn a lot (my brain hurts). I didn’t know you were in this class. I just looked at some of your work with Lizzie and she is also doing great. I was very sorry to see your post about Hoke. I hope that whatever route you go in helping him heal, that he recovers quickly.

Thank you. I tried this today. I am not sure why it is so hard to get my feet turned the right way but it is. Before we started I had curved the tunnel just a little more and moved the wings farther away to make it easier. It was still too hard, so I moved them even farther out and that worked. I think I may need to keep them wider until she understands the options for handling when she exits the tunnel. She had fun though.

Thank you! I was really happy with that session. I appreciate knowing to keep the bars at 14″ for a few times.

Tonight’s effort with the tandem turn did not go quite like I hoped. I don’t know if you can tell if I need to change the setup a little. This was really hard for her and probably for me too. Thanks in advance. I really want to develop this skill. Do you have any suggestions for the tandem wrap verbal? I have “in” for my tandem slice. I won’t start it until we can get this skill a bit more confirmed but need to think about what I will use.

Haha! I am so glad to have this feedback. Yes it is like driving a Ferrari and that is at times loads of fun and at times makes me feel like Granny Clampett. She is a good girl.

I did a short session this afternoon to put into play your suggestions. When I could remember to get my words out she did so much better. I was late cueing that darned RC at the end but she read it and turned the correct way. Yay!

I also had the bars at 14″ which I think is the highest I have had. I think I will try raising them to 16″ next time.

Thanks for the feedback. I did not even think about the fact that the distance between jumps (18 ft) was causing some of the issues.

Still working on my timing and lines and decided to try this next part of the exercise. I made the distance 21 ft between everything and we had a lot of flanking of the jumps. I don’t know if the distance was some of the cause or if I don’t have the orientation quite right or if it’s my timing/line.

Ack! Such good information – I know that you don’t want to pair movement with your verbal but this is why having you look at the videos is so important. I had missed that I was doing that when I went to release her. Thanks for the feedback on that.

I tried to set up the mirror image of the lead outs and big lines to work some on the other side. I just did some of the first exercises but she did really well I thought.

I hate that this class is ending but I am going to try to sign up for the Transition to Trials class when it opens. I am glad there is another class coming up.

Thank you for the recommendations on this. I did the lap turns and she didn’t miss a one but no video. I will try to remember to turn it on next time. Ha!

This evening I did the basic for the forced front and was really happy with how well she did. She seems happy to play so maybe she has – as you said – had her fake litter and weened them – I loved that by the way. It has helped I am sure that the weather is cooler and should stay that way for a few more days.

    Thanks!
