Thanks, Tracy! Rebooting seemed to help a lot. I have a PC laptop (use Chrome) and an iphone. They were both doing it but the laptop seems quite good now and the iphone is much improved. I thought I had tried the reboot on the laptop, but maybe not. All’s good for now! Hope you have a fun Sunday! I am taking off in a bit to meet with the Utah group and play some games!

Thank you! I had to look up HPA to know what that was and it totally makes sense. She shakes off things a lot and doesn’t generally have an overt reaction to something, but will notice something and then shake it off. I am happy to know about that and that there is science to back this up.

I am glad I asked about the find my face vs the pattern game. You might be interested to know that Brad and I are taking a CGC class with Caper and Reilly. It is limited to 4 dogs and we are meeting at Lowes. Caper didn’t get much exposure to these environments since she did excited peeing until she was over 9 months old (she still does at times). There is a lot of novelty and arousal here and the pattern game really helps her to calm herself. I also noticed a couple of times of shaking it off.

I am also glad I asked about how she should move and end the behavior when I doing lateral lead outs. It makes sense that she would turn if I am stationary.

I have a two other questions that I thought I would ask. I am having a lot of trouble looking at other team’s videos on the Forum. The videos just won’t load or take a very long time to load (I have talked to some others who have also had this issue). The little spinning thing goes on for ever. It is also being much slower getting my videos loaded (again -others have mentioned this). I used to be able to easily look at other team’s videos so not sure what might be happening or if it is operator error = HA!

If I watch one of the game videos that you post to show us how to do it, should I ask questions I may have about what I am seeing in the comment section below the video or would you rather have me ask on my on thread? There were a couple of times earlier in this class that I wondered – this would be more for next class.

    Thanks!

Here are a several games that I did today.

    Weirdness gauntlet
I really thought she would be a bit hesitant about the umbrella but she was pretty bold about approaching it. Is the fact that she “shook it off” indicate that it was a little weird too her?

    Find my face
She does a good job on this – should I work on this in increasingly arousing environments?

    Lateral Lead out
Should I let her wrap some of these or should the be moving straight forward (which is what I did this time)?

    Simple deceleration

Thank you! The dog leg forward makes a huge difference. I didn’t even notice this when I looked at the video but once I am looking for it, it is pretty obvious. Yes, that should make it lot easier putting the wing closer to the tunnel.

“The key to avoid that is to keep decelerate into the sends rather than try to stop – we often stop on the wrong leg, but the correct leg is involved in the deceleration so she reads it better.”

I want to make sure I understand what you mean on this – should I keep moving forward but slower so that I am not stopped but I am moving slower? Do I do the decel before she goes into the tunnel or do I try to get to the tunnel exit so she can see the decel?

Our first try at the Tunnel Rocking Horse. We started out with her turning to the right and turning right seems to be easier. I think she did great. When we added in the wing on the other end (turning left) she struggled so we broke it down. I think we need lots more work on this. I was happy with her efforts. I need to continue to work on me not getting rushed – mentally and physically.

Thank you for all the feedback. Also, thanks for the encouragement and reminding me that her little brain is doing all sorts of stuff.

I give reset cookies every time but I just don’t show them to keep the video shorter. I also do some cookie tosses back and returning to reward her in place (also not shown).

I so totally know that I have to train the reinforcement on the ground and her waiting until released to get it. I have been too lazy about that but can work on that indoors easily enough.

That “yes” coming out all the time is such a hard habit to break but another thing I will put more effort into.

    Thanks again!

I thought it would be good for you to see what I am doing regarding the toy in the TnT. This is our first try with a game using this technique. I showed the first 3 times of me getting the toy out and tugging and didn’t show the rest, but each time I would get out the toy and tug. I don’t know if you can tell, but even though she didn’t drive to the TnT initially she seemed much more comfortable with moving towards it. I included misses so that you can see how I am interacting with her (hoping this is less pressure and happier- it felt like it) and also her struggle at times with the behavior. I thought she understood this better than she does so I need to revisit the basics.

    Looking forward to the feedback.

Thank you so much for your feedback. Right after I read this I decided to try the toy in the TnT to see how that worked. I had tried it on top of the TnT before and she will sometimes go to grab the toy before being released to it. I want to avoid that if I can. I am really going to try to keep the pressure off her when she has a miss since it worries her.

This is how I used the toy in the TnT. Is this what you meant? I have some treats in it still. I would put the toy in, ask for a hand touch, click the TnT, go over to it (or half the time I would tell her to get the treat that came out), I would remove the toy, tug and repeat. Usually, after she tugged, if there were still some treats in the dispenser, I would have her get them before we started again. I did put the beep on (I have never used it) and she didn’t seem to mind it. I think the two things she wasn’t crazy about with the TnT was the suddenness of the noise, and having to put her nose into something that she feels is a bit confined. The suddenness of the noise doesn’t cause the startle it used to so that’s good and I am hoping we can build a love for it. I felt like I saw a much happier eager pup on this game in regards to going to the TnT to get her treat and eagerly wanting her tug game. Thank you!!! It would make life easier to be able to use it and I think it could really help clarify what I am asking on a particular game.

Someday we won’t have snow or storms with bad roads and it will be easier to get video. That day is not now. Anyway we played in the driveway. I am not sure that we will be snowless when Max Pup 2 starts but it can’t last forever.

    Moving Serp
I thought she did okay with this. She used to be scared of the Treat and Train, now seems okay, but she doesn’t love it. Sometimes she can leave a preplaced toy but often she can’t resist it, so I am not sure if I just keep trying with the Treat and Train. When I switched directions she had a few misses. I can tell she gets worried about this and I am not sure what I do that worries her also what I did/didn’t do that caused the misses. Thanks for any/all insight.

    Countermotion serps
I thought she did really good on this.

Good morning back at you 🙂

Yes, I will try to do more running around the Caper holder. I needed to have been clearer to Julie as to what my cue would be to release her. To make sure I understand, should I have a physical cue for Julie (like a raised arm) and then when she releases tell Caper to come or does the physical cue to release and the verbal to come happen at the same time? In regards to the other dog, Caper loves other dogs and the dog we used is also lovely. My concern is how motion sensitive she is when other dogs are moving, she has poor recall when heading to another dog and once she has noticed them can get stuck watching them. I need to work through this and I know I have been putting it off since I have had so little success to really tackle when I have tried. I will start with the dogs walking quietly and have it move away if it is too much.

I will keep the minny pinny tight and increase my verbals before hand. Yes, I can take her jacket off when I work with her.

On the rocking horse (and really on everything) I am glad you reminded me to walk through what I am going to do to make sure I am clear how I am going to move and the verbals and timing I am going to use.

For the double whammy, I did not even know that I was turning my feet. Thanks for noticing that.

We had a fun time but I have lots of work to do. Thanks again!

I need to do the reverse retrieves again. Your explanation made a lot of sense and I think I can do a better job next time. Thanks.

Made it to the barn to practice today with the gang and got some videos!

    Flyball Recalls
She did great. On the last one, we had a dog standing to the side but he isn’t shown on the video. I think it might have been different if the dog had been moving but she was happy to chase me on these. What would be a good way to introduce dogs moving while we worked on this? I want to set her up for the best chance of success.

    Minny Pinny
We might have gotten a bit ahead of the lesson, since we spread them out slightly on our second go at it. I was super happy with her and loved how cute she was with her footwork over the bars.

    Rocking Horse and Race Track
We had more room, so could spread things out a bit. She really likes the games where she can run. I included my first effort at Race Track where I look like I am drunk (I kept forgetting that I was just doing post turns). She does make contact with me at the turn and burn on one of them, and I hope that was just due to my timing being off.

Thank you for the information and critique. Well, Suzie was channeling you on Sunday because she reminded me to connect with Caper first and then also that I wasn’t standing in the right position for her to see me clearly in threadle position.

Ah, I can definitely see how a leash or something on the ground would be very helpful for me to stay straight on the get out game.

I am glad that the wide turns on the tunnel threadle are nothing to worry about.

Threadle slice verbals – mine and Sid’s
Debbie and I think we figured out what was going on with Caper and the odd choices she was making and wondered if you could take a look. I started using the threadle slice verbal and the first couple she was great, then she started having odd errors – going around my back, coming in correctly but seeming unsure of the toy placement. I didn’t show everything but I would put her in an easier position etc. and she still struggled. We wondered if Sid’s barking might be bothering her and she had no errors after we put him in the other room. Do you think that could have been the issue? Also, am I releasing with the verbal correctly?

    Reverse retrieve
I tried the reverse retrieve game and I forgot about the second toy (darn it). I am not sure it would have made a difference with the behavior she was offering. She would start to follow me then remember the toy and go get it and bring it to me. Any ideas on what I might do to help with that? She is so much fun but a bit of a mystery at times for me.

Had a chance to work on a few things today which was fun even though the weather down there was not fun.

    Double Whammy
We worked on this with a toy which certainly made her happy. I am not sure why she was turning so wide out of the tunnel going to the right. The first time I didn’t call her but I think I remembered to after that. There were plenty of distractions but she did better to the left. Was there something about my dynamics that led to that and/or what do you suggest to improve that. Either way she thought it was great.

    Threadle slice
I tried this with a pre-set toy but still forgot to hold my pose the first time. She loved the toy and it helped her understand where to look for reinforcement. I think she will get better and better about ignoring the toy but this was a pretty exciting/distracting environment for her. There were a couple of misses I think due to my handling not being clear, but she did great. Do I start adding in the verbal?

    Get out revisited
I hadn’t done this in a while and wanted to see if I could get my dynamics cleaner. I could see her changing leads – Yippee. I also forgot my prop so used Julie’s cool prop. Is that okay to do or should I skip this exercise until it is confirmed if I don’t have my prop? Still not getting the food out quite when I should. Which hand should the reward be in?

Thanks for the input. Yes, she definitely gets more excited about toys.
Having food and clicker in the same hand should prove interesting HA!

Here are a couple of videos from today’s work.

    Double wrap with head turn
I slowed things down and tried to keep my hand lower. I think she did a nice job turning to the right, but she struggled turning left because of my hand position (I think).

    Tunnel threadle and double whammy
I started with a bit of warm up before I tried adding the verbal and was happy with her efforts.
