ParticipantI was looking at the games in week 9 and had a quick question. Do you have different verbals for Tunnel threadle, Threadle slice, and Threadle wrap?
Vicki Rosen
ParticipantOnce again the speedy feedback is so helpful. I hadn’t even noticed that I was not getting into position for the threadle before I released her, so that’s super helpful. I will try toys for the reward and hoping that that helps me keep me in the “strike a pose”. The suggestion on the pivot/perch work is very helpful and I definitely will also work on my placement and the rewards. Thank you!!!

ParticipantFinally got some editing done. These videos include some of the work we did on the exercises over the last week. Thanks in advance for the feedback! It has been a lot of fun this week.
Backside slice foundations
I was very happy with her efforts on this. In the one session there was lots of activity behind her and she worked hard to stay focused. In the last practice, Debbie reminded me to throw in some parallel lines going straight. I can see that I need to incorporate those regularly so that she has a good handle on the differences.Tight turns leading with the head for backside wraps
I used the wrong arm on some of these which didn’t help. Would it help to have something for her to go around that didn’t have such big legs to step over – I felt like she was pretty wide on some of them.Concept transfer for threadle slices
I thought these were pretty hard. She wasn’t sure of where the reward was coming on some of them.Body awareness game: perch work
Latent learning to the rescue. She really struggled with stepping over the bar the first day I tried this. She acted like it was a big barrier. She did one other session that I don’t have film on and she figured it out more quickly although struggled some and then today she was stepping over them before I even got into position.-

ParticipantThank you. Quick question – if I am doing parallel paths using the jump uprights, can I then do the rear cross through the uprights too?
Vicki Rosen
ParticipantThanks for the feedback. I was going to ask about using the toy for the start lines and releasing in motion, but you answered that.
I haven’t worked on the Rear Crosses for a while but decided I should see what we had. They are such a hard thing for me. I think there was some latent learning, because she did great, but I am not sure she is cueing off my pressure or direction but maybe weird arm stuff. I know that the food needed to be delivered ahead of her more but space and sticky treats didn’t help with me getting it placed where I would have liked. Two more questions regarding these. Would rewarding with a toy be a good idea or not? Also, do you ever use a verbal to indicate the rear cross?
Vicki Rosen
ParticipantWith the snow, I tried the exercise you suggested for a small space indoors (backward wrap to the barrel while I walked away with a toy). I also worked on the start line stay again. I first attempted to do the start line work outside, but there was a pheasant moving around in the driveway and it had Caper very distracted. She just couldn’t do the work, but I did want to mention that I did the pattern game several times with her and that definitely brought her attention back to me and what was happening and not on the pheasant. It was still just too much for her when we tried to do the start line so we moved inside.

ParticipantThank you Tracy! I hope you have the best New Year ever!!
It’s funny you apologizing for being a few hours late with feedback. You are definitely the gold standard for giving feedback. It helps so much to not have to wait for 3, 4 days or more.Okay. I have started keeping a bit of a journal to keep track of the things I need to work on. On the suggestion about not turning my shoulders on the serp exercise – that makes total sense. Sometimes I think I do those things and not even realize it.
On the rewarding on the rocking horse. When I looked at the video I was sort of dismayed because I held the toy up out of her reach and it looked so not fun for her. I am sort of the queen of cookies and I am getting better with toys so I think I can do that.
I also like the idea of lots of tugging with her after each “running contact” rep. I need to get her a little more jazzed up.
We got hammered with snow and I am trying to think of something fun I can work on with her tomorrow in all the white fluff. I will think of something.
In other news – her backing up is really starting to get consistent and I am very happy with it.

ParticipantI did a couple of games on Monday and several today.
Concept transfer – serps.
I may still need to be closer to the wing.Rocking Horse take 2
I included some that I think are okay but also bloopers. I am not sure that I handled the bloopers correctly regarding reinforcement/restartingRemote reinforcement
Poor Caper just started her first heat cycle and she is definitely a little worried/confused. It’s also the first time I have ever had a dog that had a heat cycle so not sure if there are some specific things I should do to help her be more relaxed. In addition to being more sensitive due to her being in season, I dragged the kennel away from the edge and the sound worried her.Running Contact Foundations take 2

This is the same day as the two previous, but she was more comfortable being home and acted more like her normal self.Plankrobotics take 2

ParticipantThank you so much for the feedback!!! The reminder that she doesn’t have to hit the target on the strike the pose was good and the fact that I was too far away really made sense as to why she wasn’t really turning.
I do have a verbal for taking food from my hand, now I just have to remember to use it.
I hope you and Eric and all those fabulous puppies and the kitty have a wonderful holiday weekend!!!

ParticipantWe played with some of the games from this week. Thanks, in advance for the feedback. I reminded myself to not say yes and thought about what I should say, but still forgot sometimes.
Get out. Does the off side arm work to send the dog away even if it is a long ways a way or would you use something else?

ParticipantWow, so much great feedback, thank you. I love this class – the only thing that could make it better would be a little nicer weather so I could do more outside.
I am so addicted to saying “Yes” that I don’t even think I realize it and I am not sure I noticed how much I was saying it in the videos. I will keep working on that because I can totally see how it makes her look at me and that is an issue I have struggled with so much with Jackson.
I am looking forward to trying to slow down my turning on the lap and tandem turns. I do have a question on the tandem turns. I have experimented with using both arms to cue it, the dog side arm, and the offside arm. I feel unsure about which arm to use. Are there handling moves coming up that could make one arm a better choice for the tandem as far as avoiding confusion (hope that makes sense) or are two arms always the way to go.
It is pretty darned cold here right now and we have lots of snow so it makes it harder to practice outside but I might give it a go to have more space.
One other question – in your videos, you have those white plastic gates that you can move around. I have looked on-line and not sure I am finding the same thing. Do you know where you got them?
Vicki Rosen
ParticipantHere are several videos from the last two days.
Turn aways – lap and tandem turns. We have been working on this and I think I am getting better and she is too.
Tunnel shaping and threadles take 2 We didn’t do too much with the threadles, but your suggestion to move closer to the end made a huge difference.
Handling combos I still didn’t do all of them, but in this super short video I wanted to see if my timing is better and if her driving forward is better (not checking back to me)

Concept transfer 2 Rotated sends – I have never had her do little barks before while working. I think she thought this was loads of fun

ParticipantThank you for the explanation about when to say yes and when to let her look at me. That makes sense. I also need to remember that I have to keep playing the games like the one with the wobble board etc. to advance them to where they need to be. It is easy for me to look at all the things that are coming up and to not keep up with the things we have done to make sure she is comfortable with them and really understands them. It also helps to cement the ideas for me.
Vicki Rosen
ParticipantWhen you mentioned that looking at the target hand on strike a pose just like you would look at the landing spot that really made sense. So I did that and it went well.
I finally got around to redoing the Goat tricks 2 by putting the couch cushion and wobble board together and the towel under the board. I think she seemed more comfortable with the movement.
Vicki Rosen
ParticipantThank you so much for the feedback. I am going to be working on these things in the next couple of days.
In the meantime, I did some Strike the Pose work. You will see that the toy was a distraction. -
