If you have a video already made up, I’d love to see it!
Please don’t make a special video just for this… I think I am visualizing it pretty well. I agree, it is becoming more popular. I just wasn’t sure if you did something to set the original line differently. I don’t have a ‘get out’ cue, but might be time to think about one.

Hi Tracy! We are back from vacation and I’m just catching up on both Package 2 and Package 3. I hope to get you a couple videos this week, but I have a question while I’m looking at the lessons…..
    – The Hints on the Standard Course #2 for Package 3: you mention lead changes away from you at 3-4 and 6-7, which I totally agree with. How would you adjust to set a better line?

Interesting about indicating a turn with my arm lower around his nose or my waist. I’ll have to try it!

I think of him as very right handed. Even when he is circling left he often is on the right lead – he will “counter canter” a lot.

Timing different options will be great! I haven’t done that too much with him, but what I have done I’ve learned that he is faster slicing jumps vs. wrapping them almost every single time. That was very good info for me and it helps me make handling decisions while walking a course.

Here is our whole training session this afternoon. I made sure we kept it short since it was pretty hot out and I wanted to keep Select motivated. We only tried the course one time. I tried a different handling option at the end once and I did the DW to tunnel section again.

I definitely need to get running faster — I love that he is making me move more! He got the threadle! He spun after it because I told him “good boy” instead of weaves, I think, but I was just so thrilled he got it when I was so far behind.
Working our tunnel threadle more is on the “to do” list.

OMG, I didn’t do any “this or that” training! It didn’t even occur to me about the MM indicating the threadle during our session. Duh! Such a good point and I didn’t even think about it. I hope to run the full course later today.

I did a little threadle work today to help improve that specific skill. Our training session was too long so I’ll keep that in mind next time we go out to work. It wasn’t high energy or anything, but I do try and keep them very short with Select. I also never wear glasses when I train, but I just got back from the eye doc and my pupils were dilated.
Some improvement here, but definitely need to keep working this with more speed.

I jumped to the Standard course for this week because it looked so fun! It’s probably the only lesson I’ll be able to submit. This is our entire training session… definitely lots to clean up during our course run. I tried to just go over each contact again and work them. I forgot to record our 2nd DW, but he did it quite nicely — still wide to the backside of the next jump though.
I’m hoping it’s just a delay in the video, but my verbals are crazy late!

We are doing just a little bit of fun stuff, but we are both sooooo excited to get a tiny bit of freedom!
Great suggestion about more connection with his eyes and having that help my shoulders/chest point to the backside — I’ll give that a try when we work on this again tomorrow.

I did a little bit of work with him at the Premier Cup, but I didn’t get it filmed. He was definitely pretty pumped to be around dogs, actually, running agility! We haven’t done a 2 toy game since he was a pup — I’ll definitely go back and revisit that.

Select got to do the Skills Sets! This is really the first time I’ve done any sort of verbal work with him in 8+ months. The motion with the wing before the jump seemed like too much so I just put him in a sit to start the exercise.

I did some of the Transition to Trials with Select. We worked on/off leash using some treats and a toy. Let me know what you think.

I went out to train a couple portions of this Standard course today. It poured all day yesterday and is going to rain again later today so it was my only free time the rest of this week. Unfortunately, it is in the mid 90s and a million % humidity. LOL! Taken was a trooper!

We did the opening 1-5 again just to work on the weaves. I think we tightened 2-3 up here.

6-7 was the only other portion of the course that we worked. I walked/ran it 3 different ways. I counted the steps for the slice as well as the wrap on 7 and they were close, but the wrap was 3 steps more the way I had it set up. I didn’t have him go through the tunnel so I couldn’t time them since I wanted to make sure he didn’t overheat and his tongue was pretty big after our warmup before we even started. I just wanted to make sure we could execute all 3 and I was thrilled with his “in” even though he dropped the bar at 6.

It was hot and humid today so I only tried running this Standard course once. There are definitely parts we can train over the next few days so we’ll see if the weather cools down a bit.
We had some issues from 6-7 as I wasn’t far enough ahead of him. My plan was to threadle slice 7 and then pull to the threadle side of the tunnel for 8.
I had to make him reset on the end of the teeter since he nicely self released himself. We haven’t trained in a while and I wanted him to work some extension on the AFrame so we had that as our last obstacle. The way that my course was set up, I would have run past the AF and did a blind or a FC to get him into the weaves so I could have kept momentum for his running AF. Let me know what you think.

I definitely need to use more verbals with Taken! We’ll keep working on this and it’ll, hopefully, smooth out a bit as we both get more used to it. Thanks!

I did a quick little session of the Skills Sets with Taken. Nothing too tricky, but I did almost lose him into the tunnel at one point when I lost connection. At the end I also did a couple of our “in” commands — I’m still flicking my arm so I’ll have to keep working on that one.
