ParticipantWe worked on improving the Wing Wrap and Prop games this morning, based on your suggestions. I also attempted to use toys with each of them instead of food with mixed results and a couple of questions. He got super amped with the toy in prop game, so I only got one or two good reps in before he started biting me (ouch!) or not giving the toy back/snatching at it. Since he lets go of the toy fairly quickly sometimes (partially my fault for sure, but he’s always had a soft mouth) I haven’t yet trained an “out.” Clearly it is time! When using the toy with the wing wrap game I had a bit more success (I think because I was sitting down, so he has no reason to jump up,) but I wasn’t sure what to do when he cut between me and the stanchion. I put a little bit of video of tugging once we finished the exercises just so you could look at my mechanics. Looking forward to your feedback!

ParticipantWorked on the wing wrap exercise tonight, and I decided to throw in a bit of the cone work I’ve been doing. I don’t know what this weird thing is that I am doing with my mouth, so please try to ignore (although I realize by pointing it out it will only call more attention to it, lol!)

ParticipantHi Tracy! I worked on the FF and the prop game today. I thought the FF went pretty well, except for the fact that he does tend to run off with the toy. I put a long handle on it, but I guess I need a longer one, lol! He doesn’t run very far with it before he drops it. I switched to a heavier book for the prop game so it wouldn’t slide around as much. In the prop game I think I’d like to try it with a toy because he doesn’t get too jazzed up about food. Also, there were some reps where he was going all the way around the prop without touching it. I think this is because I’ve been doing some work sending him around a cone recently. Looking forward to your feedback.

Is this the correct way to post working spot videos? We don’t create a new topic every time we post, correct?

ParticipantHey Jen! I’m taking this class with my 7 month old BC as well! Maybe we can get together and train sometime.
Elizabeth Woodhouse
ParticipantWorked on the serpentines today, because we really struggle with them. I guess that’s not so uncommon with BC’s.

ParticipantHi Tracy! How much longer do we have to post? I just had cataract surgery, and it’s been raining like crazy! Thanks.
Elizabeth Woodhouse
ParticipantOk, I think I understand the serp exercise now. Maybe it will stop raining so I can go out and try it!

ParticipantWe worked on the other 2 combo sequences today. I don’t think I did a very good job with the first one. We haven’t practiced the JAAKKO turn in a while, and I should have spent more time breaking it down for him. On the Zig Zag, I tried to flatten it a little more, and there were questions. Also, he wasn’t bouncing them all the time. Not sure if the jumps were too far apart, or something else.

ParticipantTracy, I want to go back and revisit those serp exercises on the flat and on the wing, but I am not fully understanding the mechanics. You explained in detail in my comments, but I don’t think I’m getting it right. Is there any chance you have video you could post? Many thanks!
Elizabeth Woodhouse
ParticipantALL your suggestions always make sense, lol!!! So here are today’s videos. It took hours to upload, so I am tired and have no comments!

ParticipantHi there! We worked on some of the Week 5 stuff today. Mostly, I’m not very happy with my performance, lol. Also, it was pretty hot by the end of our session, so the energy level on both our parts declined. I hate summer in NC!
Zig Zag Grid:
I think he looked pretty good here, but you’ll have to tell me! The distance was 6 feet from center to center.Threadle on 2 Jumps:
This is where my physical cues went all to hell. For Robie’s part, I thought he was brilliant. Basically doing the behavior on a verbal alone. I was certainly not showing him the “open door!” By the end of the video, both the jumps were almost flat. We did a lot of one jump Threadle training with Melanie, so maybe that stuck with him?Serp and Threadle Sequences:
I think I did okay on the first one, but jeez my information was either late or non-existent on the second one. I also need to get better at the “freeze in place and fix it” thing. By the last sequence I think we were both toast!
Elizabeth Woodhouse
ParticipantOh boy. Not sure if I did these right at all, but here you go. Serpentines on the flat and with a wing.
And FC to opposite end of the tunnel, on the other side. Ugh. I am feeling defeated! These verbals are so hard for me.
I just cannot think of a different word for “GO” that makes any sense to me.
