ParticipantWoo Hoo We’re into the long weekend and the forecast is …. (checks internet) decidedly meh.
Here we are working on the contact box for the first time outside. (haven’t done the mat outside lately for obvious wind related reasons) Tomorrow’s supposed to be ok, so I’ll take it to club!
I used cheese to help him see the treat in the grass, didn’t help much. haha. (stupid long spring grass)

ParticipantRunning contact practice. I think he is uncomfortable going towards the crate with the purple blanket on it (to the left of the video) because there’s a franken-monster in there that loses it sometimes. I tried to throw away from the crate.
At 1.34 ish the pathetic keening of the Weedith can be heard.Liz Barlow
Participantthere are reports of portaloos doing acrobatics! From the FB posts, the worst part was actually getting there! Thankfully the wild weather is set to ease, so hopefully the rest of the show goes off without a hitch. Last year we had to finish a day early! Mud up to eyeballs we had to vacate the grounds a day early. We kept running the courses til we lost the light then packed up our gear. We took it back to the club, finished unpacking after 10pm. Stupid time of year for a national event. haha
This is a graphic that goes around this time of year:

Participant> moving the line on the ground around the barrel bit by bit
You’re very patient – i’m now recalling that was in the video.> OK that sounds crazy!! We only have 40mph winds here so I will stop complaining now LOL!!
This weekend is the big national agility competition, but there’s been blown over caravans, fires, and general havoc on the road South. Terrible time of year to hold a massive outdoor event.Liz Barlow
ParticipantHere we are doing send and go again. We won’t be doing anything outside tomorrow… it’s a severe weather warning… winds gusting up to 140kmh (87mph according to Google). I need to hold off on the weightshift a teeny bit longer but he’s so good.

Participant> if you use the sit, be sure to use a release word separately from the hand movement (not simultaneous at all) so the release stays clean.
I’ve been meaning to ask about this. I’ve notice I have a tendency to not consistently release from the sit. I use “wait” with my other guys to mean stay there until i release you (rather than just the sit/down) cue by itself. I can see a sense in sit always meaning stay til i release you, i just don’t know if *I* have the rigour to always use it like that.
Should I try harder? or use the wait cue? (Edith uses “wait” as a hold your position – e.g. if she’s in a stand, she stays in a stand til i release her – sometimes she can’t sit on the startline so I just use wait to get my leadout)Liz Barlow
ParticipantAnd I also did some work on the plank, slowly raising it in increments til we got to the top of my little steps. So I took a video of him nailing being on the plank and me realising i hadn’t bothered to teach him a down yet, so couldn’t get him to down on the plank. haha

Participanthere we are Trying “out”. The mechanics are not as easy as you made it look in the video haha. At least barry could figure out what I was trying to do. He was unwilling to sit, just being a busy bum. i might have to spend some more time paying just the sit. I did have lighter coloured treats this time… not sure it helped.

Participantyeah I knew i was doing something wrong with treat and release word. 🙂

Participantthis was the first thing we did so he wasn’t tired from the other things. So maybe I just blew his little puppy brain. He really seemed to like that toy and i might have dropped a treat.
The whole session was about 4 minutes. so maybe rather than stopping, i should have done something easy? Maybe a couple of hand targets, just to build up the value of me. 🙂

Participantjust sharing this for completeness, I spend toooo long AGAIN! (Despite knowing at every level its the wrong thing to do, I keep chasing “one more rep”. I even set my timer!) I’m going to blame perimenopause (I blame everything I don’t like on perimenopause).
It was barry’s first time going round the bin. (I’d done a couple of reps of just getting him go round the bin with treats before I started videoing.) I knew I should have stopped when he started sniffing the ground. I did so much playing he was tired. I sped up the me playing bits. He really loved that toy! haha

ParticipantI just two quick(ish) reps of the threadle slice before I lost the light – hopefully you can see. I love your “stay both ways”, it’s really helped baby barry understand the stay. And I told myself to put some light coloured treats in my treat pouch before heading to the backyard, but failed to do so (I get so close to pulling it together then fail). (I also wanted to show you his cute death roll with the toy)

ParticipantPlankrobics. You know on an intellectual level that sometimes dog just “get it” once they’ve had a break from something and come back to it, but it’s always amazing when it happens. Look at Babby Barry go on this!
Liz Barlow
Participantplankrobics. I’ve done a few foot targetting things with Babby Barry but he’s not very confident. (He can jump up on things (like the bed) when he has a run up, but can’t bounce up from next to the bed – and he’s a poodle -sproinging is what they do!)
My plan is to do more Shpile-type stuff and mix it in with some Mari Valgma movement puzzles which are more structured than the shpile approach, but focused on proprioception. Two-pronged attack!Liz Barlow
ParticipantRC on the flat, I felt a lot more comfortable on the mechanics and I think it flowed a lot better.
