Hello! Welcome to the class! I am excited to have you in class! I have been doing the max Pup camps as well with my youngsters and it is so awesome. From everything you said, I think that should be enough space and so much will be inside so it should be completely fine as long as you don’t freeze to death 🙂

Jerri!!!! I miss you guys 🙂 Yay for running contacts! Yes, you did get to see me figure this whole thing out. It may have taken a while hahaha.

It doesn’t matter to me if the target is slightly smaller than the elevated target. Sometimes I dont even use a target on the elevated target in the beginning because they really start to generalize the behavior to any type of target down the road so no big deal.

Yes, I agree. Let’s keep criteria pretty strict — especially with a smaller dog. So keep it to all 4 feet on the target for a click and reward. If she is struggling with that just use a larger elevated target in the beginning. So you could use a step board or a large box of some kind. Something that will be a bit easier for her then you can go to a smaller target as she is more successful and understanding the desired behavior. The other thing that you can change to help her in the beginning is less distance. So if you find that you are getting a lot of 3 feet hits your choices are less distance or a large target and I would do both in different sessions. I think that the spin will go away with less distance or a larger target. Let’s try that and see!

Hahaha we are in the same “what you have how many puppies under 2 years?” Club. It is awesome. I am excited to see more of her!

Hello! Oh my goshhhh how is she so grown up already..?!?! She is adorable! Yes, it would be great if you could send me your last session with the more advanced material and we can go from there too. I am perfectly happy to pick up where you left off in the other class. There will be some target proofing exercises in this class that were not in Katrina’s class and I would encourage you to do those just because it is good for understanding 😉 Just like you saw with the elevated target. I actually like adding a lot of distractions and motion into the elevated target so you might find that it is a good one to play with for building solid understanding of how you want her to hit as well as hitting the target with distractions.

She did great with the inverted target! Continue building up some distance and then start adding distractions as she is understanding this skill!

Feet in the box – This one is looking really good too. Move the box another 6 in closer to you. That will help a lot with the front feet coming out of the box. You can also reward her the moment she puts her front feet in the box as that will help her slow down and keep her front feet in the box while she brings in her rear feet.

Back and forth in a box – this looked really good! It was a really good test for her because her understanding is already so good but she wasn’t 100% sure how to hit all 4 feet inside the box in the beginning. She was doing really well towards the end though. Definitely keep playing with both this and the elevated target to keep building her understanding of hitting with all 4 feet. As we progress we will start adding different distractions to keep her thinking about her job and what she should do even if there are other distractions around. Same with the back and forth on the flat. She looks great and has an overall great understanding now we are just going to start rewarding for the perfect hits.

    Hello!!
Sounds great! The contacts are hard sometimes because it is all about just plugging away with it. So I can completely relate! I am looking forward to having you in class!

That is looking really good!! Her independence has improved so much! The second rep that you did was a threadle rear cross but when you do that you want to stay on the this side of the jump (the camera side) and then run to the left so she actually ends up on your other side. Otherwise, everything is looking great.

Hi Kim!! Shes so awesome! So glad you got the puppy 🙂

I am working on figuring out with Tracy what classes I will offer next. I have been getting things rerady to reopen here at my facility and it has been a little crazy for over that last few days. Craziness!

How exciting about working with Jen! So cool that you nailed your threadles 🙂

I am so sorry for missing this!

Yes, my turn turn cue is for tight rear crosses. I’m sorry but I don’t think that I have video of this but I will double check 🙂

Yes, that is a hard one! So yes, I would use my turn turn for a flip away to a tunnel off the dog walk/aframe. If you are thinking about it the turn turn is for rear crosses and rear crosses on the flat. Turning away from you to the tunnel is a rear cross on the flat and NOT a threadle. Because the dog never has a choice of the obvious or non obvious because they can never see both so to get them to take the tunnel you are just turning them away from you and oh there is a tunnel there, take it. Does that help?

It was easier for me to copy/past your questions and answer them this way 🙂 My answers are in bold.

I’m backtracking a bit so bear with me with this basic issue/question…..I’m trying to wrap my head around all the appropriate places to use correct cues.

In video 1 wk 1 with Rin, to start you show your dog wrapping around the cone via right shoulder and use of verbal cue *tick tick* and then “look look” for threadle around right stanchion of wing set. I presume “tick tick tick” is a right turn cue at cone? Yes, I use Tik Tik Tik for any collection turn that the dog is turning into me. So it is not really cuing a direction but cuing a tight turn that they are turning into me and committing to the wing. I have a verbal for turning away from me. “turn turn”.

If this is the case, what would the cue be for left turn coming from cone on left side toward left side stanchion of wing …..if you are facing it like the camera set up? I think if I am picturing your question correctly it would be also Tik Tik Tik. I have onew verbal for wrap and only the side that the dog is on cues the direction unless I give my turn away cue.

I don’t see an example of cue for ren wrapping around cone via left shoulder to threadle left stanchion wing??

I am thinking handlers should practice left sides equally since one side is usually favored more by dog than the other… Also if one is right arm dominate?? Yes, of course you want to practice both sides equally and building both sides to be equal. I was likely trying to keep the length of the video down when I made the videos.

    So getting to brass tacks,

What’s your cue for left cone wrap to left wing? OR…. Would one use the same cue “tick tick” for dog going around cone via their left shoulder …. and then onto threadle cue of “look look” using opposite left arm (left arm)? Is “tick tick” a generalized cue for lead change?? Yes, the cue tik tik is the same in either direction. My body cues the direction (it depends on what side the dog is on what direction they will turn). And the threadle verbal in this situation would be the same as well. Because my position would be on the other side of the jump they should then come in and threadle from the side that I am at otherwise it would be a push to the far side of the jump

I guess I’m over thinking now (lol)…. Just need a visual I guess.

Thanks so much for clarification. : )
    Trish

I hope that helps! Just let me know if you need more clarification and I can explain a little further or try to put together a video! 🙂

Great! And just keep rewarding that too so she continues to build her confidence with it. Try to reward her immediately after she does the threadle too not always doing it in a sequence. She looks really fast and happy in this session!!

nope! You should only be saying your threadle word. If she is struggling with that go back to the easy steps and build up her commitment without saying other verbals. It would not take long at all to do that. It is really important for understanding and consistency.

In the video she did GREAT without the tunnel or go verbal! on the first drill you didn’t use that at all and she did amazing! You just need to work on it so the is used to it more. You can keep saying in in in if you want rather than go or tunnel/jump

Oh no so sad to hear!! Poor guy 🙁 Well not sure if it is an option for you but you can do the videos with a different dog if you want, maybe the puppy…??? Or is RydR the pup? I was very excited with his progress though! So as soon as he is ready keep doing what you were doing. It was looking amazing.
