This is looking amazing! I don’t think that he needs the smaller sided box for this but hand onto it because we may want to use it for something else down the road. Still be careful with your verbals 🙂 Right now, you really just want to be saying your go word and click with the MM not as much a verbal marker word.Overall it is much better though! If he does the target on the way back reward as well.

Continue like this working the MM around the clock! Great work!

I know but you are really not far behind! This stuff takes a long time to master and it is so good to take it slow and really build the understanding.

You will want to eventually be able to jog. I think the more difficult/more important motion for her to master is lateral motion. So you can start working on the obstacle before/after/toy distractions and handler motion and continue to work on this but the others will be more important in the long run. This video is looking great! It is a hard skill for her!

We still have about 4 weeks I believe 🙂

This looks great! Make sure when you are asking him for an obstacle after the target that from the moment you send him to the target you are also starting to cue the obstacle. Part of that proofing is to start proofing the idea that they will be getting the next cue/obstacle while they are headed to the target so you want to start with that now.

With the low DW stuff.. Just do as much as you can with this plank. You can add some height and send him to the plank from farther back as we are building up speed etc. Then at some point you will want to try to find a half height DW to use somewhere. I have had some students go straight from the plank to the full height but it can be a bit of a shock for them and hard to figure out the coordination with such a big change. But we can keep playing it by ear as we get closer. I think you have a few weeks before we will cross that bridge.

The motion with the handler is hard! I actually add this in on the plank work A LOT later. I will do it with the target on the flat but not the plank because you are adding too many things together at this point. Our number one thing to focus on is hitting the target all around the clock running to the MM. We will add handler motion when we are working on this on the low DW.

Hahaha! Yup thats how I roll! I used the RDW mat to train the box turn and Kirbee and Pancake picked up it SO FAST so I was like well… Why not? Yes! I would love that! If I ever end up competing!

This is looking great! Be sure to reward her on the way back as well. Her hits are VERY good on the way back to you so just keep rewarding them as much as possible. The other hits are looking very good too. Continue like this working on all the different angles up until 90 degrees on either side. Looking great!

Perfect! Now I would cut down the edges of your box even more. I have even just taken some of the edges off one at a time as I have started fading them. So for her I would 1 – cut the edges down and work on all turns around the clock then 2- start taking some of the edges away gradually and very slowly. In your next session I would also move the MM farther away from the box so she is learning to run a bit more.

Ohhhhh that makes a lot more sense!! Also, I have been playing around with the dogs in flyball and I was amazed at how well this mat work translated to the box turn! They all learned a box turn really quickly because of it! It was really cool to see.

YES! From the U shape it is lookin a lot better. Continue like this until you have 90% success then start gradually making more and more of a straight line. You can also a small piece of cardboard before/after the target to help him generalize the behavior to the target on the ground. But also if you continue like this I bet he will start to really connect the dots as well. Over all this looks a thousand times better. Your verbals are much better in this session as well. Continue like this!

Oh this is so hard for her!! I wonder if you start her with a collar grab and “readdddy” if that would help her run to the target away from you? Just something you can try. You could also try making the angle that you are sending her to the target more of a hard angle so then she will run to the target and make a sharp 90 degree turn to run to the MM. I have seen that help a lot of dogs with driving to the target and the MM. Then as she is running more and more you can gradually start moving back to sending her straight. Also, how does she do with the static toy?

This is looking fantastic!! Her understanding is really coming along great. You can start working on adding him your opposite motion earlier on the B&F on the DW game. I am really happy with her straight exits to the MM (and the turns that she did). She is sometimes hitting the target with one foot so try to JP for 2. I wouldn’t not reward her for the one foot hits as I don’t think she is quite ready for that but you can gradually stop rewarding those and JP for 2. I would also start her farther back away from the target. That should help her have more room to adjust to hit the target as well. Great work!

Much better! I would continue doing a bit of both for now. Start with the tossing cookies back and forth as sort of a warm up. The go to the MM exits like you did here. Keep gradually taking her farther back on the plank until she is understanding how to hit the target from farther back on the plank as well.

Your motion with CB looks a lot better in this video (compared to E). So my guess is that he is farther along with his send aways in general or it has been more natural for him completely understandable given their age difference. You could also work on the same thing with him to get him looking towards the target more from the very beginning (not just after you send him). With turning to the right, it might help to do some static toy rewards where the turn is not as severe then gradually move the toy so that he is making more and more of a turn. I am super happy with both his and E’s understanding to hit the target with all 4!

This looks fantastic!! When you think she is ready and has built up enough excitement for the target, I would also try this same exercise with holding her by the chest and then saying your go word. You are showing a lot of motion towards the target most of the time so that would likely help start to fade the need for your motion because she would be looking towards the target a bit more from the beginning and less looking at you. It would also probably help with her understanding to drive away from you. Because right now you are always starting by kind of swinging her around she is always seeing a bit of motion towards the target before you are moving away. I think that would help with progressing to the next step a lot with her! Great work!

This is looking fabulous! The elevated target is working really well for her! That is perfect. Both with the MM and when you were giving the cookies by tossing them. Not a ton of distance but it is getting better and better every time I see it! One thing that you could try here is adding some distance with the MM but keep your distance about half way between the target and the MM. That might help her understand the distance in a slightly different way. They you can gradually move slightly farther away from the target. Her foot work with the B&F game and the cookie tosses is looking great!
