[AU-053] Got FACE 2: Transition to Trialing With Focus And Connected Engagement!

This highly personalized course will bring your dog’s focus, enthusiasm, and mental resilience into the competition ring by bridging the gap from training to competing!

You started the journey by incorporating exercises to build focus, engagement, and resilience into your training program. You are seeing signs that your dog can recover faster from stressful events; perhaps your dog is able to focus longer without melting down; perhaps your dog is enjoying themselves playing agility again…what’s next? How do you bring these newfound skills and abilities into the trial environment? How do you bridge the gap from training in class to competing?

There are many reasons why a dog might be able to perform in one context and not another. In this course, we will discover the gaps in your dog’s understanding and fill them in with training and behavior modification. These gaps could be a result of training plans that skipped steps that your dog needs, environmental sensitivities, the inability to regulate emotions, the inability to perform behaviors due to shifts in arousal, a lack of impulse control, or even fear. By examining your dog’s performance and discussing how you have trained with your dog thus far, we will be able to create a plan specific to your team’s needs. You will learn how to build upon the games you learned in Part 1 of Got FACE and practice exercises that will bring your dog’s focus back to you while building enthusiasm and drive, regardless of venue or level of show.

In this course, you will:

  • Learn how to adjust your behavior to influence your dog’s state of arousal
  • Teach your dog how to perform cued behaviors regardless of arousal level—high or low
  • Learn how to consider multisensory integration into your dog’s training program
  • Plan your training program and trialing strategies to set your dog up for success
  • Continue Resilience Conditioning to prepare your dog for the competition environment

(Note: working spots in this course are available for dogs and handlers who have taken Got FACE or Building Mental Resilience For Agility Dogs with Bobbie at Agility U. Observing spots are open to EVERYONE even if you haven’t participated in a previous class.)
