How do you live through a whole home remodel without losing your mind?

We’re planning a full remodel in the next year and the logistics of it are already stressing me out, more than the cost or the design decisions. I keep wondering where we’d actually live while it’s happening, how we’d manage with a kitchen that doesn’t exist for weeks, and whether the dust gets into everything no matter what you do. I’ve been looking into a leading home remodeling company in Palo Alto, but I’d rather hear from people who’ve actually lived through it. Did you move out or stay? And if you stayed, what made it bearable? Also, how long did the whole thing take from start to finish, because I suspect the estimates I’m being given are optimistic.
