ParticipantI’ve never had a dog love rears and probably because I don’t do them well.
Eden’s half brother saves me as I send and dart behind – ironically we worked on them in his class. This is a perfect lesson for me.We worked on the blind cross drill. I needed this laughter. Oh my gosh first I was flailing the ball around In my hand. We put that away and did better. My video angle was bad. You can’t really see the 3rd wing. I wanted to use a wing and practice wraps.

ParticipantWe had so much fun in class. Then spent 3.5 hours waiting at the ER with my old 11.5 yr old. Haven’t slept much but today’s news changed the outcome and prognosis so life is back up here. He tore his 3rd eyelid which is way better. The vizslas are very sensitive to me. I’m exhausted and thought I remembered the drill. I didn’t review it. “Bad trainer”
Her wraps are really coming along. And in spite of my goofs she did pretty well. Had I followed the instructions, she’d have done even better 🙂

ParticipantOk whew because I talk a lot! Who is this little bean who’s having so much fun! It’s like we’ve unlocked “her happy.” I can’t tell you how much joy this brings me.
Also full disclosure I remembered we were supposed to keep going lateral but that’s all I remembered.
Colleen Meacham
ParticipantI wish you could see me nodding my head as I read that! Makes perfect sense.
Today we also tried the serp drill.
Our stay is nowhere near good enough and I was alone. Tossed treats seemed to work. I got my hands all mixed up and forgot my what was right but she went over the barI tried to stay connected and let her commit to the wrap before moving. She had an amazing session and I didn’t hit record! We just did a few to get an idea of where we are at.
I would like to start focus on my chatter though

ParticipantWe had fires again and lots of smoke last last week. We were able to watch the live class this morning. We didn’t do Money Pinny last time and we started with last session’s work. When I added the jump bars I realized now I just said “go”. I don’t tend to use left and right but know it would be advantageous to do so. Just need to unlock my brain.
Then we went to handling games sends and serps. It was a struggle for her to determine what to wrap. I realized I never did proofing wraps and wonder if that’s part of our problem? She’s still much better on a left turn than right – which makes sense as she’s had way more lefts. She was also having trouble and going Between the wings – I also wasn’t always in the right spot sigh. But we had fun. When my voice gets higher and I jabber a lot it means I’m worried about shutting her down. I don’t hear it until I play my videos. Twice we stopped and just practiced sends with wraps and she was good.

ParticipantI’m nodding my head reading your response. I was counting treats as my “timer” but with a sequence I’ll set my phone timer.
We spent a little bit of time focusing on her wraps. Sometimes something I do causes her to stop or not quite be sure what I want.
We had fun with this weeks exercise.

ParticipantI was pleasantly surprised with her progress. I added a slight curve and she went right through. So we proceeded to smiley games. Oh so thankful for video. I think the angle was tough to find the entrance, I blocked it a few times and once accidentally set myself up for a rear cross. I think she just needs more practice and a better set up and she’ll progress nicely. And she didn’t give up!
Colleen Meacham
ParticipantSo this was a first for me. Monster in the yard. Considering she started a bit worried, she made great progress. I did 3 three minute sessions 15 minutes apart. Not sure she’s quite ready for some games yet. But I’m thrilled with her progress. We started with it’s not spooky, to can you go in and she started going through quickly. I moved the placed reward and started using a tossed reward. We used a food bowl as I think the treat N train might be monster-ish for her. She will go to the ready treat but I haven’t braved the treat N train yet. She’s a tad sound sensitive although hunts just fine (thank goodness)

ParticipantWe worked on set point and wind game.
She definitely gets dig more than seek but I worked that direction way more than the other. She also met the lotus ball today.
Full disclosure we don’t have a stay. I had my husband hold her collar and watched for any signs it wasn’t ok. This game seems to not bother her with a collar hold. I used pool noodles for jumps. Grass will be cut tomorrow so we can see reward bowls.
Full disclosure- I also haven’t done the tunnel but we will do that tomorrow.
I wasn’t sure this little bean would enjoy this but she’s having fun and happy. I’m so excited.
Colleen Meacham
ParticipantOh yes – she wears her heart on her sleeve. When I put the collar on she was more “creepy” so I did the whole thing hands off. I’ll work on collar and chest holding separately. The more I listen to her, the more resilient she’s becoming.
There is NEVER another vizsla. Family!!

ParticipantOk we worked on our pregame last night. I promise I wasn’t choking her like it looks like! It’s a little embarrassing. We did some collar grab games beforehand to make sure she was ok. I think she was a little confused as to why I was holding her and it didn’t help I was darting after she already passed me instead of just letting her go. I’ve “used” one word for my current dog for wrap either direction. By that I mean I trained it, but I most often forget to use it. I will try to train two words, remember which is which AND actually use them! She gets the wrap part pretty decently considering she always used to go the one direction. I’m not sure if I should keep trying to get the collar and do a better job or give up on the collar.
Colleen Meacham
ParticipantI promise I’m not this flaky. We had an excessive heat wave with temps up to 111 and now we are engulfed in ashes and Smoke from the Northern CA fires. So we are all stuck inside
Colleen Meacham
ParticipantOh she’s always been a little worried with a nose touch. The first time I ever saw her softness she went belly up mid training on about the 6th request. The fact she kept trying is huge.
We worked on a larger object and some prop stuff. As I’m outside I realized the majority of her prop work was inside. She did ok but I think I need to step back and do more foundation. We didn’t get many correct turns but spins on the “rear” – Also we need to practice walking with food in my hands
Colleen Meacham
ParticipantWe are finally back! There is a mosh mash of skills to see where we are.
New – Blind cross sandwich
New – parallel path
New – strike a pose – she’s NOT a fan of nose touch. We did 3 warm ups and 3 turns – 1 too many. And some old stuff too
Colleen Meacham
ParticipantThe vet is cautiously optimistic it’s a soft tissue injury. 7-10 more days of rest and NSAIDS and we will see where we are after that.
