Thanks Tracy! This is really good feedback!

The standing there and luring him over the bar with my hand was definitely a thing. I will remove the bars to see if I can refine it more.

I did try this again today. I am a little bit better with my hands but am still hesitating to make sure he commits. I also wanted to toss the treat but the grass is just long enough that it was getting lost. I tried a ball and that was getting lost too! I wanted to use the Manners Minder but wasn’t sure how to place it for this set up.

    >>His commitment looked great and he picked up even more speed. That is good news and bad news hahaha!!

LOL! Yes! I don’t want to replace refusals with off courses! I really need to work on my timing now! Thanks for the feedback regarding my handling mechanics! It’s been an ongoing challenge. However, will continue to practice (video does help!)

Today, I continued the countermotion exercise. I added jump bars and did a backside to a 360 wrap. This was hard for us! I will try again outside if the weather holds up.

    All great information! Thanks Tracy!

I wanted to take some pictures while the fog was still there but then got totally side tracked. Hopefully next time 🙂

Today, I tried the countermotion exercise again. I didn’t attempt the 360 wrap but will next time since Cowboy’s understanding of this game is increasing.

    Thanks so much, Tracy!

I did round-two this morning. He is still not fluent but I thought it was smoother than yesterday (although, he’s a little bouncy in between the wings. I have a feeling we will be doing a lot of this kind of stuff and thankfully, he seems to be enjoying the game!

LOL! Yes, this is the Friday night happy hour group! It’s a lot less expensive to have multiple people rent the floor. My sessions don’t go very long anyway so it’s working out perfectly 🙂

Thanks so much for the feedback! I was tempted to use my outside arm for the middle jump but I see a lot of people just moving their shoulder back while turning their chest towards the jump so I am trying to learn that skill.

I was so happy that you provided a countermotion activity since I really struggle with that. As I suspected, Cowboy and I took a while to sort out how the mechanics but it started to come together towards the end.

I checked the weather and if it is not too hot in the morning, I will retry.

For Friday night happy hour, Cowboy and I worked on serpentines. I started with just one jump and then went to two and finally three.

The jumps are set at 12′ apart. Cowboy appeared to handle this set-up well. However, I was running all over the place so about half-way through, we placed a thin red leash on the floor. The added visual helped to keep me running in a straight line. I also noticed that I was not cuing consistently with the dog-side arm.

Definitely! I really love this online format. Submitting training videos and receiving specific feedback is proving to be a great learning experience. The information from this class is extremely helpful (even if it takes several sessions to get the mechanics right!)

Wow! This is really good feedback! Thank you!

I really look forward to applying your tips in my next session 🙂

    Thanks so much, Tracy!

Today I expanded the 4-way sequence by adding another jump (and a 3rd for the rear cross). I wasn’t able to add the tunnel to the sequence today but it is on my list! Here is the order of the sequences:

    1) Go (extension)
    2) Check (collect and wrap) – I still have a tendency to wait and see if Cowboy is really committed which causes me to be late. It sort of got better as I continued and the later turns were a bit tighter
    3) Push (backside)
    4) Switch (rear cross)

    Hi Tracy,

I planned to do the straight line 4-way sequence today.  However, I decided to build up to it by practicing my verbal cues on a single jump first.

I started out using the Manners Minder and after going through the four jump cues, I removed it to see if Cowboy still understood the cues without the target.

He didn’t drive through as strongly without the MM but he did appear to understand what I was asking.

The order of the jump cues were as follows:

    1) Go: Continue going forward

    2) Check: Wrap the wing and come back to me (he was a little wide for these; was I late in asking?)

    3) Switch: Rear Cross

    4) Push: Go to the backside

    Thanks so much, Tracy!

It never occurred to me to use the bang as the click but that would work perfectly!  Hooray for the Manner’s Minder!  I love this thing (Cowboy Love 3000!) I purchased your self-study course “Got Remote? Get Training! ” and am finding all sorts of uses for this remote treat dispenser.

This heat wave that we are having should break soon so I am hoping to work on the sequencing section.  I have used the Manners Minder to work on the “go-on” cue as well as rear crosses.  However, I have not used it for things like wraps or pushes to the backside.  It should be fun to try 🙂

Round-2 of backing up!  I warmed up with the clicker board and then switched over to backing up on the end of the teeter.

I brought the Manners Minder with me and placed it next to the tire jump while I was setting up and then forgot it was there!  It wasn’t until I was about to leave that I saw it.  Since it was already out, I did a few passes over the teeter at full height.  On the earlier passes, Cowboy did a 4-on before moving into the end position.  He then became more confident and moved right into the 2O/2O for the remainder of the runs.

    Hi Tracy!

Today’s episode is all about hind end awareness! Cowboy is backing up on all kinds of things:

    * Clicker board
    * Travel plank (sideways so it was easier to find)
    * Wobble board

I haven’t worked on backing up in a while so it started out a little slow and then got progressively better. He seemed to have a good understanding overall.

Thanks Tracy for the Fantastic feedback!

I think I used the upside arm before the send to the pinwheel because earlier in the week we ran a sequence during class using the tunnel to the blue jump to the dog-walk (off screen). I thought I saw Cowboy eyeing that line when he was exiting the tunnel and wanted to make sure he turned to the red jump instead of going straight (or at least that was the plan!)

Today we practiced the 2O/2O on the teeter. I continued working through the exercises from your Terrific Teeters class and now Cowboy can do a full height teeter. However, somewhere I made a wrong turn and now the 2O/2O criteria has gotten a little bit fuzzy for Cowboy. Currently, he is doing a four on and slowly moving into a 2O/2O with prompting.

In this video, I start out using a target plate and then removed it to see if one was better than the other but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. The last third of the video is a different session where I use a travel plank and the Treat n’ Train. He is a little better there. However, if I use too much motion (jogging/running) he will run through the contact.

Hahaha! Great observation on the beginning of the video! There were several obstacles offscreen and when I started the exercise, Cowboy would exit the tunnel and continue on to the next obstacle.

Today, we worked on speed circles. The start of the video is just the speed circle. I then added the front cross in the middle section and the blind cross at the end (The blind cross part is rough!)
