I finally figured out the handling on her third run.HC Pkg 5 Rosie 1-1
I intended to go and just try the short 1-3 distance challenge, but since she seem to do that pretty well I decided to try the next course 1-10. I was pleasantly surprised that she seem to handle the distance better than expected. Because I didn’t think I was going to run the full course, I did not have it in my head very well, so I was focused mostly on the distance challenges.

Same thing with Lily, I expected to have more trouble getting the distance challenge but she surprised my by handling it pretty well. I know I did not run the course quite as it was set, but I wanted to keep her going and focus on the distance challenge.
We had a trial last weekend in a place (horse barn) that we only trial in once a year. Lily was pretty good the first day, but the second day she was highly distracted. The second run she took the first jump and eventually escaped out of the ring. In the past I would have scratched the rest of the day, but I wanted to see if I could work through it and get her back. She did better in the rest of her runs, I tried to stay super connected. I think the rough spots were mostly where I lost connection. I thought if I could get her back and work through this, it might be a better learning experience and show some resiliency. Was that the right approach?
UP Pkg 5 Lily 1-1
Early morning. Tried a couple different toys and had both girls out together during the runs. Lily is still a little distracted by the toys.
At 1:07 she stalls out on the dogwalk. She has been doing this occasionally. In our classes, I use a lotus ball and throw it down the ramp to train running contacts. Lately I have been fading it out. I wonder if she doesn’t see it if this is why she is stalling out.
I started treating her from my hand at the bottom to keep her moving.UP Pkg 5 Lily 1-2
I gave her a rest and ran Rosie. With Rosie I put an open bowl of treats in the middle between the toys and left it there for Lily’s 2nd run.UP Pkg Rosie 1-1

I put a toy by the center of the tunnel.
Then I added the orange toy.

With Rosie I put a closed container with her treats in it. Its hard to see it. It has a red cover. She ignored it so I moved it closer. She still ignored it, so I took the top off of the container. I eventually put the treats on the lid of the container and she still did not seem to be bothered by it.

Started with the paper bag again. Once she got used to the paper bag I changed to the frisbee toy. Kind of hard to see in the grass.

With Rosie it was hard to keep going to the backside, especially since she could not hear me calling her.

Something very distracting in the lawn on the near side.
I couldn’t keep her from taking the front side of the jump when she was going full speed through the tunnel. It was better when we started with the tunnel. She didn’t have as much speed coming out of the tunnel.So I had a set of Rosie and Lily walk throughs and runs and when I got down to fixing them up I discovered my camera turned itself off and I had nothing. So the next day I went through it again and this time I got Lily’s runs but not Rosie’s. I’ll have to see what is going on with my video camera. Might just use my iPhone. Seems like that’s what everyone does now anyways.

UP Pkg 3 Rosie 1-1
Used a soft frisbee type toy. She seems to be oblivious to it. Then switched to a lotus ball. Still did not seem to affect her. Then when I moved it closer the first attempt she popped out. Not sure it was due to the lotus ball, but then was ok.

Lily was another story. I eventually put the toy away to get a set done.
When I brought it back she was looking for it again.

Tried again the next day and still had some small distractions, but overall much better.

The main thing with Rosie is to keep her going and not walk through the course.

The most problematic part of this course was the transition from 6 to 7. After the blind cross I couldn’t get out of her way. I didn’t trust her to take the backside so was late on the blind.

The 6-7 transition did not go so well here either.
Not sure why she wrapped jump 10 the long way around, I did not intend for this.
I got a little confused at the end and we took the last jump the wrong way.
Since it was early morning (cool) we tried this one again.

I needed to put the agility equipment away for mowing, so I thought I would do another round. I moved the jumps about 3 feet further out from the tunnel. This made it a bit more challenging for Lily.

Lily HT5 Sequence 1&2
Started this session with Rosie out loose for some extra distraction. I got to be too much, so I tethered her to the deck.
I couldn’t get the tunnel by layering the jump, so I went between the jump and tunnel. The first time I forgot to take the jump after the tunnel Opps.

Since I had Rosie out, I thought I would throw her into the mix. She often does this spin at the beginning of a send, but then goes ahead and does the send.

First run she had to pee (I cut that out).
I moved the jump a little closer so she could be more successful.

If she had a better send, I could get the layering in better.

After the last run Rosie had had enough and went to the garden with Kim.

After watching my videos, I realized I was doing this wrong and not putting in the blind before the threadle wrap. This might be why I was having so much trouble with this sequence. I will have to practice this later.

I’m a little behind here. You’re going to think I’m a hypochondriac. I am dealing with some blood clots in my leg and in my lungs. On blood thinner and the whole nine yards.
Here is my last set of runs.
At the end of this run I did a post turn instead of a front cross, think that’s the only difference.

I did not use a lead out hear even though most would. I am having trouble getting here to start, so I am working on techniques to get her going at the start line. It is much worse at a trial. For this reason I am running with her from the start. That’s why I did a rear cross at the start to run with her.
