    Emotion modulating exercise.
DancR will sometimes play tug with me as a fun game at home but only when she initiates. Once she is done tugging she immediatly settles down on her own. So I’m trying to think of a game to play to practice this. Could we just chuck a lotus ball with treats around for the game? And then go into the settle work? Or should I do a repetitive toss treats on the floor for her to chase? Need some thoughts for the none toy enthusiast.

I started working on the shadow handling. We have not done this in like 4.5 years. So I will start to incorporate it back into my maintenance training. Let me how if my mechanics are good and what you would like me to change/ or not for next session.

So we have been working the snuffle mat in different situations as well as using it before and after each turn at class. This is video from our last class (w/Jen Pinder). I have never gotten weaves after a dogwalk before on her and she stayed on her teeters!
I have also worked the got Face game not including video because as a sheltie finding my face no matter how crazy I turn around is the best game ever. So she has rocked that one and I don’t feel I need feedback there.

Great minds think alike. I had figured I would try shortening the calm session to 5 min and see how that went. And I had used a knife to cut up/crumple the vital essentials. I will really be more conscious of slower treat delivery and placing them Thx!

DancR’s one sister is actually the complete opposite, very subdued and needs lots of cheerleading. But her brother and other sister are closer to her. If you by any chance know Bonnie Opal and Edward ( he is exact same parents but different litter)

I did want to share a little of daily life with her. She actually has a really good off switch at home. Her main worked up issues are at meal times and when being worked. I do some kind of training 3 days a week (agility, life skills, nosework) and 3 days of fitness/conditioning work. And one day a week at training time they just get snuffle mats or treat puzzles. She also gets a frozen Toppl if I need to leave the house (have my own business and they are usually with me).
Here is a little video of her at home, as well as a snuffle session from before agility class today).

    Answers to your Questions first.
    – I have gone back to more foundation work at home on reverse wraps. (FYI I have been doing and teaching agility since 1996, not that I don’t appreciate help there, just wanted you to know)
    – That class session was the first time she worked herself up to vomiting, but she does work herself up to frothy white spittle flying from her mouth on a regular bases.
    – DancR is ALL about food, and toy wise will only work for a lotus ball with food in it.
    – Yes this is a pattern game of food from each hand in a rhythmic motion that I got from Sarah Stremming. I have been using it between turns and while listening to instructor feedback.
    – I do have a snuffle mat setup that I have been using for 2 years before and after runs at trials. I will start using at class as well. Its in a art box so its easy to carry around and keep other dogs out of.

I worked on the Calm exercise. This was frustrating for me as all she kept doing was following the food like a lure. Unfortunatly I can not use a lower value treat as (2 years of elimination diets) DancR can only tolerate real meat (beef, Lamb, pork) and a very limited amount of vital essentials beef nibs (which don’t crumble well). Any time I give her anything else processed or ready made she gets vomiting and diarrhea. She also eats raw meat and bone only in a slow feeder bowl for her meals.
In the following session I used her entire treat ration for the day for this so could’t do any other training that day.

That’s my point. I’m not getting the emails? Can you post links here in the forum each week?

At 2 sec, you start to decel before DancR is committed to the jump, pulling her off, then she barks at you because she is likely frustrated. Is this typical?
    -Very!

I take it she is supposed to stop at the end of the teeter. 🙂 Is it typical for her to break it before cued? -Yes an ongoing thing that we are working on with fitness and proofing.

For the reverse wraps, is this behavior common for DancR? Where she comes off the wrap when you start to leave? -Again yes.

—What about her working herself up in the session to the point where she vomits?

Here is a short video of reaction to walking into the building before going into the ring.

I’m sharing a video from our agility class. I cut out most of the instruction. This particular class was the first time she worked herself up to this point. As you will see while she talks a lot she does still work for me. She has success and I am happy with what she accomplishes, but am often coming away from training feeling like she is so amped that she just can’t be in a good place brain wise. I look forward to you thoughts. And I do have some video of the pattern feeding I do with her outside the ring before her turn if you want to see that.

Question: In regards to Relaxation Conditioning, I have 3 shelties, if I put the other 2 in crates to attempt this, there will be a lot of barking and carrying on from the 2 non-participants. If I put those 2 in another room in the house, I will have the same. I am trying to figure out how to navigate this because it won’t be a quiet setting for DancR.

Today we played with the Tandem/lap Turns. The first rep we were both out of sorts but then it got better from there.

We worked more with Stays and Lead Outs. I tossed treats back at him, sometimes you can’t heard my search marker but he only broke one time the who session.

We worked on some serpentines today. I was pleased with this. Will need to keep building.

He did have a few questions on the 3 wing ladder drill. But we worked them out quickly.
Tonight we worked on The lazy Game contact end behavior and backing up onto a slightly dropping teeter. He thought these games were fun.
