We’ve returned from the Kamal Workshop and are now back at it. The workshop was great. Kamal did some work with Rusty in regard to toy play which I am now trying to build on.

Rusty thought the Manners Minder was pretty cool. Not much intro time needed for this foodie. That intro made the exercise go quickly. Should I be using a yoga mat rather than the rug square and doormat.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Alternate Rear Cross

This was hard as you predicted. Rusty wanted to do a 360 after picking up the cookie. I played around with it until we got to this point. I will be interested to see what happens in the next session. I am guessing he has it but that remains to be seen.

I will be offline for a bit as I am going to a Kamal Fernandez Workshop tomorrow evening thru the weekend. Yes, Rusty and Folger are going too. Stay tuned!

    Look forward to your feedback.

    On the Road!

We went down to the dock, a place Rusty hadn’t been before. No one was around but clearly different sights, smells and sounds. I started the game right away before he had much of a chance to look around. He is such a foodie that this game seems to trump the environment. Once he was done playing the game he was eager to look around.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Parallel Path

Rusty also seemed to like these. Instead of turning while he is eating his snack, I think I need to be walking clear to both ends so he reads his motion off of mine.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Rotated Sends

I thought Rusty did quite well with these. He seemed to be happy in his work. Using the lotus ball helped.

    Look forward to your feedback.

Pattern Game 2 Assessing the Environment

I did this activity first with a Milk Bones box, the with the Basement Food Jar and finally with a bag of Charley Bears. I found his noticing of the distraction and then quickly returning to task, even when he noticed it multiple times, to be interesting. He seemed to know his job in spite of the distraction. I need to use less bouncy treats next time. 🙂

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Handling Combos 2

A combination of front and blinds with visible food distraction. I thought Rusty did quite well for his first go. Now to do some more work to also include some turns and consistent verbals.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Retrieves Games in Small Spaces

Although it was a rather low key game, Rusty did his fair share. I included the ball part at the end just to see what would happen. I thought it was really cute after the last two ball throws where he rolls the ball back to me seemingly asking for more.

    Look forward to your feedback.

Progress with Strike A Pose, Tandem Turns and Lap Turns

A bit more distance and work amidst distraction – In addition I moved on to initiating the activity without a food lure and rewarded with a tossed treat. Where there is movement and food to be earned, Rusty is all in.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Tunnels, Handling Combos and Stays

There is one good send here from Rusty on tunnel side but there were others where he was climbing on the tunnel on those inside sends. Should I be verbally cueing those differently like with “turn”?
We made some progress with the handling combos – still need to include more variations. Lastly we did a few stays some with my return and a few with release.
    Look forward to your feedback.

    Handling Combos – Baby Level

What most amazed me with these was Rusty’s willingness to leave the reward to do the work.

Long Tunnel, Lap Turns and Tandem Turns

Rusty loves movement so progress on these was pretty smooth.

    Strike a Pose

I opened my fist rather than using the paper because I am doing that in my heelwork. Hope that’s ok. He seemed to do well here but tired quickly. I think I need to keep my time on any one task short to maximize Rusty’s interest and attention to task.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Tunnel Games 1

I do have a Manners Minder which I will use next time around. I didn’t have the treats I normally use in it and being snowed in, there was not an option to acquire them. Also next time I will set up the longer tunnel. I thought this short one would be good to start. I do think that Rusty loves running through the tunnel.

    Look forward to your feedback.

    Start Line Stays

Rusty has been doing stays for a while. I added in the ok release, catch and get it. I think I am ready for distractions of distance and movement.

    Look forward to your feedback.
