ParticipantI was unaware of the Kong big stick toys but immediately ordered one. Hopefully it is waiting for me when I return home from the Mayflower Corgi Specialty on Friday evening. Rusty is on vacation until then!

ParticipantBall Retrievers
As you know retrieving is not this retriever’s strength. I intended to use a high value treat – lamb lung – as the reward; however, he was quite keen on the game itself in the beginning so I went with that. I have included a couple reps with and without food. One thing I did learn for sure is that turning to his left is his preferred side!
I think with Rusty getting a reliable retrieve is going to be slow and steady wins the race so I will continue to plug along. Next time I will try a tug reward and see where that leads me.
Look forward to your feedback.

ParticipantSpins and Race Track
This morning we worked indoors and since the rain finally stopped, this afternoon outdoors. I did some warmup runs outdoors first but omitted them from this compilation. I was pleased as this is the first time I have asked him to follow my handling outdoors.
Look forward to your feedback.

ParticipantLeft and Right with Front Crosses, Find My Face and Restrained Recalls
I like the addition of the front crosses to the directionals.
I was pleased that Rusty came looking for me in Find Your Face. I required actually finding my face because I am working on focus in other facets of our training.
I was very pleased to see him actually chasing a toy in Restrained Recalls.Look forward to your feedback.

ParticipantHappy Stays
Rusty has stay experience so I amped it up a bit. He only anticipated once and I caught it pretty quickly. He is also learning to take his turn on the cot while I train Folger. That’s coming along though the current duration is far less than Folger’s. It’s valuable stay practice with distraction.
Look forward to your feedback.

ParticipantLeft Right Verbals
Haven’t gotten outside yet. It was in the mid-90s this afternoon. But we did work on just verbals. I will try to get in another short session tonight.
Look forward to your feedback.

ParticipantLeft and Right
First a morning session and then the evening session to add verbals. Rusty seemed to have fun, even more fun as he got going with it. I assume my next step is to move the sides closer to achieve bounces.
Look forward to your feedback.

Participant360s
Well designed lessons and latent learning – I have no better explanation but Rusty seemed to know what he was doing from the start, no luring and reward on completion.
Look forward to your feedback.
