ParticipantGood morning we ran Package 4 SQ4 Here is my walk-through video.
I tried to speed it up which I thought I did but when watching it I’m “still in my head” and not moving very fast LOL. Maybe it’s just that I don’t move very fast. 🙂 Anyway, I ran Watson 1st, and my plan did not work to push the backside of 8 and have the dogs slice that jump to set up the last 2 jumps 9 and 10. Watson read that as a blind and took the front side of 8. I reran a 2nd time and BC btw 7-8 and wrapped 8 he nailed it but missed the last jump. Levy ran the entire course clean (Yeah) the 1st time using BC to wrap at 8 but he also missed the last jump 10.Jill Seamster
ParticipantWe just ran Hot topics sequence 3. All went well except for 1-2 3 for Levy. He held his start line but just couldn’t make the tight left turn to jump 3. We either got 1-2 or 1-3 but not all 3. LOL

ParticipantHi Tracy Lary and RPN are amazing. I love seeing their progress. 🙂 I been working on Package 4 hot topics. I love and need to video my walk throughs more often. I could see right away after watching my walk-through video, why both boys missed the backside of sequence 1. My shoulder was turned on the walk-through and I lost connection there with both boys. You will see it on the video. the 2nd sequence I had a chance to watch the video 1st and caught that I was making the start jump too complicated and it really wasn’t helping the line.

ParticipantI hope Nacho’s bucket list is going well and you had a fantastic time in Canada. Safe travels Home 🙂
I went back out and tried the distance sequence again. I think it was a combo of what you suggested. It appears that a certain distance exists in which I am behind Levy that communication is breaking down. I have noticed that I am able to be further behind now. I think once he starts responding to verbals more this will help when he can’t see me. Also, I am really enjoying the Jumping package 3 Pop out sequences. I did Pop out Sequence 2 yesterday both boys were able to threadle the jump after the tunnel which I was not expecting to go well… Yeah!!! However, I did try to threadle wrap 4-5 because I thought it might set a nice line into the tunnel. (Both boys lock onto the bar and took the obvious side) We didn’t get it. I am thinking it might be best to wrap the outside wing instead. Thoughts?I am going to try sequence 3 today and I am not sure of the best way to handle 4-5-6? My plan at the moment is to try and stay near the exit of the tunnel 5 to get 6 and send to 4. f

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I hope you are having a blast in Chicago at the Brain camp this weekend.
I have been working on little parts of training package 3 hot topics. My first question is the big Lines with Levy. I was able to get him out to the second jump with me starting 1/2 down the tunnel. Then for kicks I tried reversing and having him start at the end and take the two jumps 1st and go out to the jump from the other direction. He was not able to go out to that jump even though the distance was about the same as the other direction??? I was a bit further behind but not by much.
We have also been reviewing the threadle wrap this week and it’s not going all that well. I have been using the outside arm to cue this turn, but I noticed Teri and Moon. She is using the same side arm, and her cue is very clear. Perhaps I need to make my motion cue more distinct? Just a few Sunday musings.Jill Seamster
ParticipantGood afternoon, Tracy, I ran the 3 Live class sequences today. Levy did well with sequence 2 Part 2 when I used the Front crosses at both 3 and 4 and was on the landing side of 7 to 8. Trying to serp to the blind did not go well. by the time I did the serp both Watson and Levy were in front of me so no chance for the BC and of course they went to the tunnel when I tried to flick them to the jump. which was correct so I rewarded them. I tried the BC to threadle and it worked fine for Levy but not for Watson. It was timing just didn’t give Watson enough connection and didn’t complete the BC in a timely manner. This is a note to me that Levy needs more distance work and a stronger get out. He found taking the jump with the tunnel in between us difficult. Your suggestion for Watson (send from other tunnel entrance) worked like a dream. He nailed it the first time easily and I was way ahead.

ParticipantI will take you up on your offer. We need to start to get this show on the road a bit. 🙂 Agility and flyball best summer ever!!!!

ParticipantI took Levy to Watson’s agility class to try out the 2 toy game and leashing up at the end of a run. I am super excited about both. Levy was happily putting his head into the leash to get a food reward. we did a short end of run to the leash no rewards on me. yeah!!! I found this much easier than tugging then trying to leash. Another lucky circumstance is that in the agility environment he will easily go back and forth between tug and food. I built in a few catches and find its into the 2 toy game and he loved it. Now I am not sure if this will be the case at a real agility trial but I am very happy with his progression with these games in practice while other dogs were running.

ParticipantGood morning, I loved the chat last night. I was supposed to remind you to post patterns games with toys. 🙂 I want to get the mechanics of this down when I am waiting to play Flyball.

ParticipantI am beginning to work on the behavior chain I want for exiting the Agility ring. My original thought was to finish the run, tug on the leash, slip the leash on, exit to the yum yum station. At this point I am really working on slipping on the leash. Levy is really happily putting on the leash and going a short way to his yum yum station. I am now thinking it might be best to skip the tugging the on the leash and just slipping it on instead and head straight out to the yum yum station. Then reward with both food and tug. My thought here is to keep it simple. I do not want to be struggling to get the tug out of his mouth, and I will not be bringing up his arousal at the end of the run. Thoughts on this? I guess the key is to make sure leaving is fun.

ParticipantOops sorry about that. It’s been a while since I’ve uploaded.

ParticipantHere is Levy’s turn. I have the jumps set up much easier for him. I am happy with his turn away. https://youtu.be/s7gg07_cQcw
Still working on taking the backside. LOLJill Seamster
ParticipantHey Tracy,
I finally got Seq 1 with Watson. I had to move the jumps in to make it easier for him. for some reason he left and took the dog walk. This happened a few times, but I did edit the video. My guess is I lost connection by putting my arm up to try to get him to go out and take the jump. You can see how I sent him by stepping backward to the jump to get the turn away. https://youtu.be/FwDwRAwWFOwJill Seamster
ParticipantGood morning, I really am enjoying the mental management section of this course. Thank you so much for offering it.
I have been obsessing this morning on why Watson isn’t reading the tandem turns or any of my cues to indicate turn away from me. Watson, I believe is reading my shoulder turns and the tandem looks similar to what he sees in my FC. I think he is reading that well so I don’t want to mess with that. I have discovered bending forward is actually my backside cue and leaning away is my threadle cue. I have discovered that if I stand up, back to the wing he is able to easily get the turn away which is making RYG seq 1 a bit of a challenge. ( it’s funny what you think you trained and what the dogs really learns LOL) Should I just take out the layering of the tunnel for now? At this point either my motion or shoulder turn is pulling him off the jumps 6- 7, due to the fact I am so close to jump 5.Jill Seamster
ParticipantYikes I am a bit behind and haven’t kept up with my successes. It’s funny how a schedule change like travel can disrupt new habits. I must say that smile and laugh thing really works. Thanks to you and George Carlin. I am working on an updated list and will share in the near future LOL. Thanks again for your help when I panicked a bit in the lanes. I am not quite able to self-regulate that on my own, but I am getting better. I am a work in Progmess. So, my goal of running in the pack didn’t quite pan out the way I hoped. However, I have a good place to start and I know enough now to start learning the skills I will need to be successful. It’s OK to learn at your own pace. That’s my mantra for now.
I practiced setting boundaries tonight. It was hard to say no when I know Levy would be able to run for someone else, but this is our journey and I want to run my dog. I’ve put in the time and training. It’s hard to learn sitting on the sidelines. I have to get in there if I am going to improve. No can be hard. Now I see why you said to practice first. 🙂 I hope I did it nicely. PS Great news about CB… I see more puppies in your future. 🙂
