Hi Bobbie, I just realized how hard it’s going to be for me to get video for this class. I can get video of training because I can set up the video camera turn it on and then get the dog; but getting a dog on the fly when something triggers a negative response maybe beyond my filming capabilities. LOL Here is a short video of Watson’s reaction to hearing an agility trial on my computer this morning: sounds of high-pitched barking I think is the trigger. One of my games is having him put his front feet on my knee to get cookies LAT game and chest rub. You can see him doing this in the video. I call it asking for help I am uncomfortable. He will also line up between my legs. We did a lot of this when he was young, and I think it’s a safe place for him. I stopped filming and we went into our game, and he recovered quickly. Reaction 16 seconds. Please note I would not let this continue this long but I wanted you to see. Recovery which is not on film 4 seconds. https://youtu.be/tnZCw62W2n8

Hi Bobbie, I afraid I don’t have any video of the last 2 seminars. It takes all my brainpower to work with Watson. 🙂 Here are 2 short ones so you can see him. I will try to get video in a trail like environment later this week. So you can see our challenges.
Watson Flyball workshop: Notice no other dogs present LOL https://youtu.be/nq1JORWB-1s
Watson backyard: I have stopped all group classes as I did not think it was right to ask people to keep their dogs up during my turn. https://youtu.be/FKgwp_RgS0k

Thank you Tracy, Levy did do much better with jumps at 18 inches I shorten the seq. and rewarded with better connection. Funny how that connection thing works LOL He is getting it. I am glad it doesn’t look like he will be 24 that’s just too high I think.

I am super excited about this last session with Watson. We did the seq. granted I missed the 1st blind and resorted to a kinda rear cross thing and watson fell on his head but he kept going… bless him and for giggles I tried the rear cross out of the tunnel and he nailed it. Progress is sweet!!!!

I have been playing around with ESC package 5. We did struggle with the flip to the tunnel in the 1st sequence, but I was not cuing it well. Watson did a nice job reading the threadle rear in sequence 2 he missed the ending because I was saying go as he was entering and exiting the tunnel so I went ahead a rewarded there. he had trouble getting into the tunnel I was late with the cue so he ran all the way around LOL

    Seq 1

    Seq 2

I had Levy do the 2nd seq. without any threadles. I brought up the jumps to 16 inches. He doesn’t like taking jumps with any height. any suggestions? I am not doing this a lot but he will probably measure into the 24 inch class. I want to show him the difference and teach him to collect and use his rear a bit more.

Here is the tunnel exits. I tried to get the rear cross, but I think I am too close to give Levy time to read it. I wished I would have stopped but he got lots of play. I thought he read the soft turns and the Go very nicely. https://youtu.be/JFPdTDoJ6M8

I also did the teeter entries. I have the teeter a little higher and he could see the teach it and was not having any part of the game at first. However, by the end of the session he was much more confident.

Here is a brief segment of our training. Honestly, I can’t see Levy ever doing a full teeter, but I went through this with Mickey, and he eventually got it. We will keep plugging away at it.

    Good Morning,
Here is Watson’s progression on the flip Cue. I haven’t added the cue as he is still figuring it out. I will start to add it next session. I don’t think this skill is ready for a seq yet so I will have Watson play Levy’s games this week instead of the sequences.

    Good Morning Tracy,

We are very far behind. We are just starting week 6. I will try to get in tunnel exits before the rains come in today. He is a brief session introducing turn away circle wrap. My cue will be Flip, but Levy doesn’t quite have the understanding yet. https://youtu.be/AELa7SCS5ss

We played verbal fun: This was so hard for Watson. I did help with my hand a bit. He was getting frantic and started chasing bugs. He also ran around with his crabby, but we muddled through. Watson had fun! Here is our first go at this game.

Hi Tracy, here is Levy’s latest contact work. Levy’s background teeter training: unfortunately Levy lost a lot of confidence on the teeter when playing the mountain game. the support I was using was the teach it and when Levy rocked his weight back the teach it rocked back and he went slamming down, No injuries but that was it for him and any type of plank. I have been building his confidence back up and have decided to teach the teeter the same way I taught Mickey from the ground up instead of from the full height. It will take a bit longer, but we are in no hurry. You will see I have a very low teeter in the games we play but I think he is looking more and more confident. 1st game was “Love the slam” I rewarded any interaction with the moving end. The 2nd game is building plank confidence. For a while there he would not go up the plank. I think he looks pretty confident now and I am considering starting his dog walk running contact training. Thoughts?

I also introduced Levy to the Verbal game: I really haven’t done very much verbal cuing with him. I had to show him standing up at 1st as I have never sat down to do any agility but once I showed him, he was ready to play. Interestingly enough he needed me to stand 1st with each obstacle. I think it was a successful introduction.

I really love the Skills challenges this week because they are exactly what we need to improve on. I have just started Levey on the weaves, and he has built up to going through 12 open poles with support from me. I hope you don’t mind but I decided to go ahead and let him try the entries even though he is not weaving yet. Watson’s session went well. I tried to hang back a bit since I know he is dependent on my motion. However, I noticed his head turn at the end when I did this, so I added some motion back end to try to prevent the head turn.

Watson’s Behind the back starts: Lots of confusion as this cue looks like line up and the first time he ran into the back of my legs. LOL, I have had him do this mainly going to his right and have to teach him how to do it to the left. I am thinking I need a different body cue. What about a head tilt instead of the verbal and hand cue. Thoughts? Also Levy has a great Behind the back going to his right. I use this in disc. Should I have another cue for doing the same thing to the left?

I gave the jumpers course a try this beautiful morning. My plan was to run the 1st course taking out 8,9, 10 and then go back and work that section separately. Also, the threadle slice at jump 14 I know we do not have that at speed yet. I am super happy he got the backside at #12.
My 1st attempt: I was in trouble by jump #3
My 2nd attempt: overall much better he stayed out on the line. I need stronger connections as he exits the tunnel and making the turns. I still working out moving and spatial awareness on the course. On the last line; jump, tunnel, jump, jump, jump. I had planned on layering the jump after the tunnel but went too far in to support Watson’s forward motion. When I try this again tomorrow, I am going to support that line and blind the jump after the tunnel to get Watson on my left.
Threadle slice practice. I really want that skill and a reliable rear cross. I am putting that out here so I will get this done LOL
6-12 part of this sequence: I was happy at how well the BC to the tunnel went. However, I can’t seem to get 10, 11, and 12. It zigs zags so much I can’t seem to get the crosses in on time.

I played the lazy game with Watson last night which really helped on our 2nd attempt at Sequence 4. https://youtu.be/F0OkUKIAR6Q

I did better at the verbal cue but I need to show the turning cue with my motion as well. He is still wide out of the tunnel which makes getting the jumps or turns after difficult. 2nd try we almost got it but I got discombobulated at the wrap cue. I was late gave the wrong verbal etc. Did that last part and Yeah we got it LOL. My plan was to set up the jumpers course for next week. do you think I should hold off on it? PS I love that Watson’s Woo is so much earlier than last year. I think that shows a lot of confidence.

I decided to just run each seq one time to see what would happen. LOL I did not anticipate that we would struggle getting the jump off the tunnel # 4 in the 1st seq. but we missed it in all the 4 sequences. My set up has jump 4 slightly off set and the tunnel a bit more curdled so it is not a straight exit to the jump. I think I need to add a get out cue before he enters the tunnel. Cues were late even though I thought I was on time. Here are my notes from this morning. I will not post this every time, but I want to see if I am on the right track. Seq #2 Clean, and Fast Seq #3 Watson missed jump 5 and jump 8 in this sequence. Also had a refusal at #3. I stopped my motion too soon. I may have had too much forward motion on the pinwheel. Need a strong get out cue on 8. Seq #4 I ran the pinwheel instead of the outside jumps on this seq. Watson read the pinwheel nicely. He came out of the tunnel very wide at #7 and had trouble finding # 8. I did not use decel motion cue to get a smooth tight turn and got a refusal at #9. Watson missed jump 12 took #6 instead.

Here is the good the bad and the ugly from this morning. I am proud at how happy and engaged Watson was. I don’t think he noticed my mistakes except for the refusals but he happily kept going. I ran the pinwheel instead of the outside jumps on this seq. Watson read the pinwheel nicely. He came out of the tunnel very wide at #7and had trouble finding # 8. I did not use decel motion cue to get a smooth tight turn and got a refusal at #9. https://youtu.be/k5OWpwLerYY
