Participant> Oh no! I do know of many dogs that have had braces and they do fine but still, I wish you and Barry didn’t need to deal with it!
Oh my! I was making a joke about braces. hehehe. Babby Barry had that bonus toofer whipped out on Wednesday, and by wednesday night you couldn’t tell he’d been under a general anaesthetic that day! (it was an EXTRA toof rather than retained babby teefs)
I was away judging this weekend. Babby Barry was amazing, a place he’d never been he was pretty resiliant. He played beautifully with my friend’s Border Collie puppy. I tried to video a session on Saturday, but my tripod blew over within the first 30 seconds both times I tried to video haha.
Here’s sunday, the wind had dropped so the camera stayed up. Make sure you put sunglasses on, this is the first time I wore shorts since last summer! hehehe.
I chose an exercise he was fairly familiar with in a new space. But I pushed him too far, i was asking a lot, there was a ring running and another walking, there was a judge calling numbers and a hooter, and his sister yelling (i cut out the bit where I close the back of my van up). But i clearly need to work on his stay in more places. I was super impressed by his choosing me over the environment so often. But I think there’s something missing in these exercises, he’s not really engaging with the exercise part – i definitely think my mechanics are part of it, but there feels like something else missing.

ParticipantAfter the tunnel, we worked on some threadles. He was a little flat to start, and there were some sniffy decompressions. But by the end, I thhink we were starting to get it (although that last rep, he broke!) (Also sorry – i should have taken an antihistamine I’m sniffing so bad!)

ParticipantOh my gosh – Can’t believe it’s been nearly a week. I’ve had a rough one with the old black dog of depression. And it looks like Edith’s clearance to start training again may have been the wrong call. VetPhysio is worried it’s disc disease. Need to get an xray. (I also just discovered an out of place toof on babby Barry – He’s gonna need braces!) Also sorry your country is in such a place! Your recent elections give hope… but I cannot imagine your health insurance nightmare.
Here’s me revisiting tunnels. At 1 min he was freaked out by something at my neighbour’s house (they were on their deck, behind the camera). He had a couple of moments where he was worried about the neighbour but by the end of the session he started looking for the tunnel I think.

ParticipantStrike a pose 2 (i did this one before the pivot) Poor Baby Barry i needed about 3 extra hands in this exercise, my brain, hand, mouth coordination was lacking. My brain also mixed up some of the strike a pose 3 video and i said close for a few reps. Also the video is a bit long because I accidentally set the timer to 5 mins. At one point i say, this is a very long 3 minutes. You don’t have to watch the whole thing.

ParticipantHere’s Baby Barry learning to pivot. He nailed it even in the narrow space of the hallway. He was a bit more confident pivoting in the clockwise direction than anticlockwise
Liz Barlow
ParticipantSend and go… i don’t know why he was so focused on the top of the bin at the start of this, I watched your video about pivots… but I didn’t think he’d watched it too!
I did a rep where I lured him round the bin with my toy, i didn’t mean it to be quite so lure-like, but he got it and the following reps were good. (also some SSC – there was a little bowl of treats next to the camera, which i showed him before we started).

ParticipantBaby running contacts – more so you can see the baby not reading my throws… they’re not that bad. haha. I think I need to bust out the cheese for this one, so it shows up on the grass… honestly he STOOD on a piece of dog roll the size of my thumb and didn’t notice hahahahah. (I realised I wasn’t suitably armed with toys after I turned on the video).
(also some SSC – there was a little bowl of treats next to the camera, which i showed him before we started).

ParticipantHey. As the tunnel was out there, I did some tunnel again today (got home with just enough light for this and some grid work for Edith). I’m pretty sure my mechanics went out the window, I’ll watch the toy part of your video again.
I’m also confident that this baby grew while I was at work today.

ParticipantSun’s out! Forecast looking good all through the weekend! Ground is still soft enough for me to push the pegs in for the tunnel with my CROCS! haha. (unfortunately my tunnel bags are designed for a 600mm tunnel but my tunnel is 700mm.)
Here’s Barry’s first tunnel session: https://youtu.be/UjahheU20Q4
The manners minder doesn’t seem to have enough value yet. I’d done a quick session before hand introducing it but might need to improve the treats inside it. Might need to do some baking! I also still have the lesson plans from your MM class that I did ages ago!

Participant> What are the insane turns?
180s, serps, tunnels in a u bend. All with 5m distances. Every course is different, so dogs can’t get into a nice rhythym. Quite different from flyball. (what’s the same is that you’re racing against another dog that’s doing the same course in the next lane, and there’s a flyball box.)There’s not a lot of flygility happening these days, because there’s so many other codes now, free weekends are getting fewer and fewer.

ParticipantI thought it was time to work on some more self control with the Baz. So here we are doing the cone wrap thing https://youtu.be/SiZnpifpJVY
Liz Barlow
Participant> Are those ear buds what are giving you the great sound on these videos?
yeah just telling my phone to pick up sound from my ear buds alone.> He did well recovering from it and the last wrap was his best one!
I was super proud of him. He was quite distracted. In other news, Edith has been cleared to start strengthening work for agility. woo hoo. (she’s had something going on with her back) Now I gotta plan her first show back. So excited!\
We’ve got another weather warning for tomorrow… so we might be back inside.

Participant> (you should try flyball with him!)
We don’t have flyball, we have flygility, with insane turns, weaves, and low contacts. but the boxes aren’t like your boxes. There’s a pedal, that releases an arm that flings the ball up in the air. A million years ago I tried flygilty with Polly. I did see someone had taught their dog to spin, hit the box with their back feet, then catch the flung ball. I just worry flygility is not great for dogs’ bodies. Just in the last year we’ve started hoopers as a code in NZ. But it’s still more “agility with barrels and hoops” than the hoopers I see overseas. It’s distance work that i’m keen on achieving with Barry, cos I’m not built for speed haha.Liz Barlow
ParticipantTried the send and go on the other arm (had my ear buds in so you get less wind noise. lolz)
About half way through the nextdoor neighbour dog starts barking (it was pretty loud – that’s less obvious with the ear buds supplying the sound). So I stopped and just did some tugging cos baby Baz was a little worried. Then he recovered. Clever boy!Liz Barlow
Participanta little forward focus for fun
