ParticipantOh my goodness, I just watched that video and realized that I sped up a whole rep, instead of splitting at the reward and tugging and reset. Sorry! That’s what I get for uploading when I’m tired. Does that count for adding more speed? LOL
Marie Lister
ParticipantYep, I can see where he can read it much better on the reps you pointed out. I will try to remember to reward across the body.
We tried a bit of the serpentines today. I only tried the one side so far and we only did some of the first steps. Are we on the right track?
Marie Lister
ParticipantIf the spot is still available I would juggle my schedule to work it with Dice.
Marie Lister
ParticipantYou’re right I was having problems with that toy. I may have to use a different one if I’m switching sides, cause that one is hard to put in a pocket.
OK, we tried, wingin’ it tight blinds to wraps and double blinds today. You could call it anything but a tight blind and it was definitely my fault. I can’t seem to get comfortable with when to start rotating. I remember from the live class it should have been earlier, but even when I’m thinking I am cuing the turn faster, I’m wasn’t. I did try really hard to be more conscious of my arms to try to keep them from flying out so much. I hope it’s getting better.
Marie Lister
ParticipantI will get something figured out for the teeter so we can increase the tip. Yay!
We did one more session with the countermotion on the wings with a speed circle. I think I’m still blocking the wing more than I should. I also cam not rotating all the way. He definitely liked the speed circle though!

ParticipantWe will give the counter motion and racetracks a try again tomorrow. It’s definitely hard to keep my bearings of where I’m moving as I add in more wings but I can see what you’re saying about trying not to block his view.
We did mountain climbers again this is what we’ve got on that.
Marie Lister
ParticipantHere is the wingin it countermotion tonight. We did two wings and I tried to leave as I saw him committing to the wrap. I don’t know if I’m turning enough on the second wing and leaving but I was still trying to remember which direction we were wrapping. 😂
Marie Lister
ParticipantHaha, my neighbor did have great timing, just not great news, unfortunately. They are selling their place and looking for a place in OR or WA to be closer to their kids. 🙁 So, that was a bummer, they are great neighbors.
About the feedback for counter motion, that makes sense. We will try adding more motion when it cools off and we can go back out.
This morning we set up the straight lines game again and there were some things I was really happy with. In particular I loved how he was driving ahead of me like at the .36 point. Look at him go, I was just thrilled! I made a mistake right off the bat by not moving the MM to the side he’s struggled with though. I tried a “go” and a “wrap” in that direction and both failed, so I moved it back over there again before we tried another go from that side. Because he was driving so well through both jumps on the other side, I wanted to try a wrap on the second jump coming that direction and watching the video, it looks like I didn’t decelerate to cue the turn. Is that accurate? If so, here’s my question, would I needed to have started decelerating even before he lands the first jump after the tunnel since he was passing me by that point? Like at .57? Also, what did I do that cued the rear cross on the next rep? and then I tried moving laterally away from the jump a bit and that just pulled him off the jump altogether. So, I tried a few different things, but they weren’t the right things lol. I decided to finish up with a straight go in the other direction and end it there.
We also did the back up onto the teeter. It was getting hot, so it was short but I think he’s doing well.
Marie Lister
ParticipantWe had my nieces kids here all last week, so we didn’t get much training done, but the break was probably good for everyone. 😊
I was going to do the ladder game but then I thought maybe we should do this one from lesson 2 first. I’m really glad you are extending class into September. We set that up on the front lawn today. He did good! We had a neighbor pull up at the end, so we just ended the session there.
Do you think we should try two wings in a row? I thought we could do some of the games with countermotion and then go back to straight line or circle.
Marie Lister
ParticipantAnd…this is the session this morning. I kept it super short. I did one rep with a wrap and one just short straight one. Now I think we will work something else. I was wondering if the other exercise with the backside wraps using the MM would be good since it’s reinforcement for him not chasing me as well?
Marie Lister
ParticipantDice is a goofball, yeah I saw him try to get on the plank. Lol. I am trying to get the MM up off the ground just a bit so the food isn’t covered in sand when they eat it.
Ok, this is the latest session on straight lines. I did move the MM in closer and he nearly landed on it, so we moved it back out a bit again. I hope the distance is ok. He only had one time he went around the last jump this time.
Marie Lister
ParticipantHaha this made me laugh! “Adolescent Dog Team Chill” 🙂
Yes, I totally remember “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat”. That’s an accurate description for sure. Especially when I sat on the ground out in the field to work on backing onto the teeter and all of sudden realized I was getting bit by red ants. Lol. Or when I drove 3 hours to go train with friends and it poured rain the entire time I was there. Last week was an odd one. 🤣
Adolescent dog brain accurately describes him. I never experienced it with Zane, but I know lots of people have talked about how slowly the boys mature and I think I’m getting a chance to experience it firsthand now. 😆
I got to thinking that maybe he was patterned to run around that end jumó now as well, so I set it up to try the other direction with the MM. I think we had better success, he was definitely thinking it was getting too hot already though. I am sending the whole session, just fast forwarded the setup between reps and deleted the portion where I moved the MM to the other side. It was interesting he blasted past the MM on the direction we did the other day, more than once. I had to go point out the treats in it.
One question, I was thinking I’d just leave this game alone for a bit now that we got him having some success doing two jumps in a line and come back to it later in the week or next week. But when we do, should we just concentrate on keeping him driving ahead for now, maybe seeing if I can get a little lateral distance from the jumps, or would you start mixing in the turns again? Thanks!
Marie Lister
ParticipantThis is our attempt at the straight lines set up. I hate to even post the session but I’m obviously doing something wrong. We never got more than 3 obstacles. I tried reinforcing more randomly, especially rewarding after he would take the tunnel like we talked about before. I don’t know, I just really don’t know what to say. It seems like we are on a bit of a streak of poor sessions.
Marie Lister
ParticipantYep, that makes sense! I’m glad we increased the distance when we did. I think this is going to really help us once we get this concept.
Thank you for the video on placement of reinforcement, that was helpful. I do think I was targeting with that dog side arm, even though I wasn’t really aware of at the time. Lol. I can definitely work on it.
Me did mountain climber tonight with a little movement and I forgot the sandbags on the teeter. I will put them on before the next session. We have a little movement now and I think he seems pretty confident and happy.
Marie Lister
ParticipantI tried to fit in a quick session this morning with bigger distances like you suggested and it presented challenges for us. He seemed much more likely to pull off the jumps, (combination of me peeling away before he was committed on some of them and on others, maybe it’s just the increased distance?). Then on the reps where we got the jumps, I was either late or lost connection or was in the wrong place? Regardless, this session had way too many failures.
Should I pause the BC FC part of the exercise and just go back to some speed loops and see if I can increase his confidence driving to the jumps without me as close? Then once we have success with that, give it a try again adding the FC and BC? I’m also thinking we just let it rest for a bit and work on something else for a while. Not like we have a shortage of games. lol. Do you think I’m on the right track with that thought?
Also, when I do go back out, I’m going to take Zane out with me and try to get the arms for the blind under control more. I’m trying to have my arm close but back,(but that’s not what it looks like when I watch it on video. LOL) Do you think it would be better to just keep them in, without trying to have one back and just look over the shoulder for now? Cause I noticed they are still way wingy. lol
