We started with the toy placement challenge behind the wing. I use the clear panels to block the toy first time and I think it worked well for Benny. I could place the toy further behind the wing and he did wraps with the supportive panels.
Rear crosses went much more consistent and we could do 2- wrap sequencing in the end. What didn’t work – hiding the static toy behind the barrel. I tried to connect , I tried to call him – no way. When he knows where is his toy – and I don’t have the toy – he just ran straight to the barrel, ignoring my side switch. what worked great in this scenario – I didn’t use the static toy, the toy was in my hand and he perfectly switched sides and was very committed to the correct turns.
Benny turns and rear crosses (serpentine hand too) around dogs. He knows verbal left/right and does spins on verbal cue also, without hand support
We are on the road/competition until Tuesday.
Sends to wraps and cones were fine until trying rear crosses again. Once we tried Rcs – he started offering everything:
Then I figured out: RC worked when I the toy in my hand, rewarding as a trick. It made him much more successful and we could make some sends:
Using static toy with directional wraps around wings – call to hand (pivots), blind and front crosses, running to the static toy. Added a few explosive starts with the toy. He cannot hold start position with the toy on the ground yet, but he stays with treats and thrown toy forward and behind him.
Getting back to normal! Not quite ready for full speed, but adding more activities – and back to full speed in a couple of days:)

This was the last session before Benny’s break – fig.8 between 2 wings (he did it well), rear crosses (still some mistakes) and some tunnel/wrap differentiation that was harder for him:
I try to use calm tricks – like stays or static, no running, to entertain Benny during our break. I think this hand target session with toys works for him – he touches my hand when I hold and reward him with the toy in another hand. But his ‘stay’ version doesn’t look like crate rest..:)
Backsides first time with 2 wings – I use ‘push’ command for this wrap/backsides. I used the toy behind me and tried to pass the wing when he turned away from me. We also did lateral/straight sends for differentiation.
I use the same verbals for tunnels – regardless of my position and side. I am confused myself with too many cues and my dogs have no problem finding crazy tunnels entries, so I would not add verbals for it now. I have separate verbals for both backsides, all separate directional turns – soft and hard turns, plus turns on flat.
We tried rear crosses first time and I don’t think it was a good idea because he doesn’t know independent verbals on 2 wings. I used 2 toys but they were not the same value, and with me behind – he didn’t know what wing/side to go. Looks like better not to train rear crosses now? I would better focus on tunnels and wraps…
Update on our walks: When I take Benny in the park – first he barks and tries to get to other dogs. I use long leash. I move away or to the side – he follows me immediately, and doesn’t pay any arttentions to dogs after first surprise-bark reaction.:)
Lots of running today!
1. We worked on offering and finding tunnel entries before, but we have never played restraint recalls with the static toy with the tunnel, so it was ne for us. Benny invented his own game first – LOL. He remembers our past trick – running around large objects to switch toys. He tried first this game with the tunnel!:)) He got entries first when I started closer, but he was sure that it’s ‘large object’ wrap when I moved him farther from the tunnel entry. But he figured out very soon! We could do it from both sides relative to the handler, and moved farther to the tunnel entry:)
Then something interesting happened – the hardest for him was to think and switch between wrap and tunnel search. So I think I need to add discrimination early to avoid patterning? He figured out switch too:)
2. wing wraps – I think he likes it and got the concept. He made a few mistakes but learned from them well, I think.

Different stays session using treats – that’s totally different. He is not too crazy about treats and can think well, no barking and I can make a few steps. ‘yes’ – means click, and ‘ok’ is release.
I use different directional cues on soft turns – yes, so we will try it next time with the tunnel.
Toy stays – he likes it and we played it before with ‘bow’ trick. You can see first Benny offered bow, ignoring my ‘sit’ cue which he knows. We played with ‘sit’ with treats – i was rewarding him in position and released with treat tosses. But I really want him to stay focused using the static toy on the ground. it’s easier for him to sit when I hold the toy, but when the toy on the ground – he gets crazy. So I ignored his bow offerings when I asked for sit. He eventually figured out.
I also want him to listen to the specific cue. Since we did bow a lot and he knows/offers it – I like to switch between bow and sit. And I used the mat for bow to make it clear. So we have several challenges at the same time: his toy excitement when it’s on the ground and past extensive ‘bow’ training using the same techniques – now we are adding the differentiations too.

I changed the wing angle so the tunnel entry was at some angle. I also ran ‘parallel’ game with the tunnel.
Benny didn’t notice dog running in the ring. But he barked on the short leash at walks or passing by. He doesn’t notice anything when I have toys:
teeter – i train 4-in, ‘bow’ trick. I think ‘bow’ on a small strip of carpet with toy static on the ground – best for him. But we cannot use stays with toys yet:))
Benny had a bad unfortunate incident = one larger dog accidently snaped him and we took 2 week brak for recovery. All good, cleared for all activities. And Benny was on fire again. We are catching up

yes, we play the ‘engagement’ (predictability game) for a long time. It’s impossible for him to see and find treats outside, so we use toys outside. We use treats inside. He doesn’t have problems with it – he engages to me well but oftentimes he is not interested in treats outside – but toys work everywhere.
I took him in the class (dogs running right next to use behind the fence). He doesn’t notice them when we play or to tricks.
