ParticipantShe definitely doesn’t bring stuff back to me. It’s more like run away and chew. The other day I out 4 chews out and she took them all. So, maybe a resource guarded as well.
It’s raining today which makes potty hard. I’ll see if I can work turn always in the living room.
Here’s more pivot, I don’t have anything lower. One side easier for her.

ParticipantI used to think I was a decent trainer…. So many errors on my part. Toys are tricky now as she only likes a few and it changes, But, I’ll see what else I can find that she may actually play and tug with. Dot likes chase better then tug so far.
I tried parallel path with the dot markers as toss targets. Plus, I decided not to use the long line as it was getting tangled or I was tripping over it. She did great even with a noise distraction. I’m using Nutra dehydrated raw which is like a topper and a plug shape.
Afterwards, I tried a few retrieves. The toy should have been in a long line, but it was tucked into my pants and a smaller toy. The first two times she brought it in the vicinity of me. Yay! Three was too much ( greedy!) and she took a lap. But, she did come back without her long line. No hackberries were harmed in the making of this video. So this is huge progress.

ParticipantDo you think I could put a tarp under the jump for the treats? Dot thinks a lotus ball is something you grab and run away with. So, I don’t think that’ll work.
We tried two things in the living room today. She’s pretty distracted there as she doesn’t get to wander it on her own. The toy was hard for her. She spent a lot of time trying to grab it rather than work. The pool noodle wouldn’t stay in place either.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantOk…the area near the fence is the only relatively free spot of the delicious hackberries. I did notice I was using my arm too much to help her. I’ll try parallel path in the yard later today. Treats that are easy to find are challenging.
We played the fold it in game in the kitchen with the new high value toy. As you move the toy further around the cone what release word are you using? Get it could mean go directly to the toy. Would I start adding the wrap cue and then say get it once she’s rounded the cone? I’m not really sure what to say as I advance this game.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I only have a sit platform, but it’s not that much shorter. Dot is really teething. She just wants to take toys and chomp on them. But, she will chase them. However, she doesn’t want to let go even if I just grip and don’t tug if she likes the toy. Is there a game to get them to leave the toy in the ground? She’s jumping up constantly trying to get the toy in my hand as we go outside. Most of the games eventually have a toy in the ground the dog needs to ignore. If you use a bile for food do you just leave it empty?
We tried a few games in the yard. The slice game went well. Then, I tried the prop in the one area of the yard with minimal hackberries. She still bypasses the prop most of the time on the parallel path. On the send, she couldn’t do it on my left side. Dot kept going behind me.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantOk, I’ll revisit the send to the cone with the bowl game. Tried to do crate training in the living room and she zoomed all over after the release. It’s hard for her to focus in there now. Previously she did ok.
Here’s baby pivot. Am I doing this correctly?
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantBy self control fold in game are you referring to the remote reinforcement game? Which game do you mean? There are tons of games.
I tried toy remote reinforcement with the new high value toy. She struggled and stole it off the table. Later, she tried to jump on the table and fell over backwards hitting her head. Stunned her. So, I had to move toy toy to the fridge top. This is HARD for her.
The jumping up is becoming a problem. Today she leapt into the chair in the kitchen. She’s going to hurt herself.
This clip is long as she didn’t want to release the toy.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHaha. TOYS are expected today. She’s still so so with tug due to teething,
We tried the head turn exercise. However, she still doesn’t have the send concept. What can I do to help her? Went back to two bowl game. What’s the best way to build I send and you go around the thing?
BTW, Sprite thought head turn gane was fun!
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantSo, I’m struggling with space for the harder games. I’m not sure she’ll lay attention in three yard. There is a small section by the gate without hackberries. Maybe, I’ll try the RC there with a long line. I’m a little concerned about the wrap exercises dragging a long line. What do you think?
I think one set of my new tits shows up soon. She’s so so worth tug, but liking chase at the moment.
Sorry, this is a bad camera angle. We tried remote reinforcement.

ParticipantIt was pretty windy, rainy and in the 50s. CA cold, lol.
Sprite did run. First trial since her injury in Aug of 2024. She struggled to pay attention going in the ring. We play the pattern game right before her turn and she was great. But, she couldn’t walk in the ring engaged with me and struggled to line up. Some great moments with solid contacts. Weaves were an issue which is unusual and she struggled either way the USDAA tire. It’s different then what we practice on and I believe higher then the AKC tire. Our timing is off. However, overall her jumping looked good. I think the weaves were more focus than her shoulder. Weaves to tunnel are hard for her. She popped 10 or just didn’t bother to get in if the next obstacle was a tunnel.
Dot met lots of people. We played her pattern game on the grass with our friend the hackberries during a walk through. They must be everywhere beside our backyard! No one was around to video, but she did well. Also, can I have it is coming along. She’s starting to doubt out the item on the cue. Yay! Sometimes it was treat and sometimes toy toy,
I haven’t even read last weeks lectures yet. Given our yard limitations what’s best to work on? She’s still not great with sending to the prop or around a barrel/cone.
BTW, no UTI. She’s just drinks a lot and pees a lot. Unfortunately, she also doesn’t just run out and potty. Dot gets distracted and takes a long time to get her to go. She won’t typically go on a walk and will wait until home. But, she did go at the trial eventually! We celebrated. It’s odd as she needs to go, but can’t focus on the task. I think that’s why she has accidents. She waits forever for the perfect opportunity, but then can’t hold it anymore.
P.s. forgot you were traveling so I read the first lecture. I’ve no idea why I’m sideways when she’s on my left. I’ll try harder to face forward!
More prop. She’s starting to drive to it. Video picks up when I first put it down.

ParticipantWe were at the trial all day. Dot did well overall. She met lots of people. When we got home she was zooming in the backyard which is fine. But, now she’s starting to dig. Sigh!
Here’s a game we played at the trial.

ParticipantI’m looking to borrow an x pen from a friend. I have two not in use and with one more I MIGHT be able to mark off a smell section of lawn right by the gate to try games. It’s supposed to rain this weekend AND Sprite is entered in her first trial since August 2024. However, I won’t run her in rain. I’ll need one x pen this weekend. Hopefully, next week I’ll have a tiny area.
We started “ Can I have that?” training and it’s going well. Waiting on the UA results. Had an accident today in the kitchen after she had peed twice in the previous hour. She did bark to alert me, but I didn’t think she would have to go again so quickly. I was on the phone. My bad!
Here’s a clip of what I’ve tried the past few days. I’m waiting on clips to make a lighter paracord long line. The lawn people just left so it’s the least hackberries for the week.
Is this what you had in mind? Thanks for all of your great suggestions!
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantThanks Tracy! I’ll work on some of these suggestions.
She got shots today and is a little punky. So, we worked back up!
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantI look forward to the day they both hang out together. Sprite will NOT tell the pip to big off. She’s hiding in a crate or behind the sofa these days. Dot is only out on a leash with me. She relentless with dive bombing Sprite.
We need to talk trade training. What’s the best way to start it? What I have is Dot grabbing and running away as fast as possible and not returning for any reason. When I do catch her she’s removed. So, no fun for either of us.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantThe grey bed is Sprite’s bed. Dot is generally on a leash when in the living room unless we are training. But, if she happens to get in there she runs to that bed, steals Sprite’s chewy and then runs all over so I can’t get her back. I removed the chewy. However, I can see the bed as a big draw!
She’s going in tomorrow for shots and I will ask about a UTI. She can go and then go again in 10-15 minutes. But, she holds it over night.
Unfortunately, she the hackberry issue she’s not getting as much free running. I’ve put a foxtail mask in her to allow her to run. However, it’s really too big and she tries hard to get it off. I’ve stopped running Sprite and Dot. I saw Sprite cutting too hard to get away from the biting and she slipped once or twice. I don’t need a new injury as she’s just coming back after 14 months! I am playing with a flirt pole. But, it’s not the same as running and exploring in your own. The eating and swallowing of leaves is an issue.
