ParticipantThanks! Quick clip on my second run from 10-12 doing backside blind on 11 keeping bar up. We tried keeping him on the left but wasn’t successful because he would pop the weaves if I started moving that way. I feel I would be too late if I waited for him to finish. Would I cue the threadle slice from behind as I would a wrap and then move past the jump and turn? If I tried to handle it like an IN I would not make it past 11 in time. Just not quite sure how I would handle this as a threadle slice with him on my left?
Also, in this clip is a scenario similar to 4-5 that I did at home. Was that better handling?

ParticipantGames package 2 Jumpers course 2
Knocked bar at 5. Did a retry of the sequence with success. Because I cannot move too far away as he is weaving, I stayed to the right of 10 with a push to backside at 11.
Pamela
ParticipantTook video of PO 4, 5, 6 before I received your last feedback.
PO4 handled 2-5 same as PO2 5-8 with wrap instead of slice. Later that day, I did try the slice as per your feedback without my video equipment. We did the same type of move (going to the left though)in the big agility course last week and he was excellent. Here I had trouble getting him to turn to the right! Definitely handling that I will need to work on! He’s probably a lefty? 😀
PO5 I know I know! I did the backside of 6 as I did in PO4 but kept going. I’m starting to work on cues for directionals on the flat. Up until now, as he enters a tunnel and I need him to turn I’ve been using his name right as he enters.
PO6 same 5-8 as PO3 1-4 where we struggled! I felt I handled that better and then did it again this morning after your feedback. I was able to notice when his eyes locked onto the tunnel!Pamela
ParticipantWeek 3 Agility course pop outs
PO1-he questioned 4-5, so tried again and noticed my arm was straighter or perhaps showing the line better? and he moved to it nicely.
PO2-I think he read the backside at 4 pretty well and the timing of my cue 6-7 felt swift.
PO3-Oh my! We had trouble 2-3 several times and I really tried connecting and looking at the line. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough? He did this same sequence in PO1 nicely and I was further away too. We did have more speed though.
I finally showed him by running with him to the tunnel and rewarding to break his pattern.Pamela
ParticipantI attempted jumping PO5 and 6 again-PO6 first in video. I handled the course differently this time by doing a blind cross 4-5, which seemed to keep his speed up and I got better connection. PO5 was 5-11 to see if I did better 6-7 and 9-10
Week 3 agility course 2
First turn in the ring
Attempt 1. 7-8 (tunnel) I did not push him out enough, and he went up the frame.
Attempt 2. Overthinking 3-5!
Attempt 3. Finally figured it out and got to 18 where he went to the weaves instead of the jump.
Note: I wanted to handle 15-16 with a threadle to his right and pick him up on my left, but he went left. Slow body language? I managed to successfully continue on.
Second turn in ring
8-21 Poor handling is all I can say! I should have stayed to right if jump.
18-24 Same thing happened 15-16 and yet I thought I turned quicker.
Final turn in ring (a very hot day here, so a little slower and he is so careful at the weaves 😀💕)
We ran the entire thing with only a blooper at 5 to 6 but we kept going! and then a dropped bar at 22.Pamela
ParticipantI tried your suggestions and ran jumping course pop outs 1-3 again.
PO1 used what I think are brake arms, but you can let me know! He did not look at 5 this time and was tighter on 3 I believe.
PO2 still had some trouble 1-3 and in overthinking a bit, I did lose connection. I stayed tighter at 8 so he did not go wide and used brake arms (I think) and got a really nice tight turn on 10!
PO3 did it correctly this time and felt it went well.
Moved on to Pop outs 4-6
Pleased with his layering of 7-8 (PO4) and 8-9 (PO5). I rewarded him after the tunnel because I was happy with sequence 8-10.
PO6 very windy and my camera moved so 5 wasn’t visible. He did it correctly but slow coming out of tunnel.Pamela
ParticipantThank you for your advice! I am keeping a list of skills we will be working on!
Moving along to week 3 jump courses pop outs 1-3.
Pop out 1. At the end of the weaves, I gave him the cue Out to take jump 5, but not sure that cue is correct. Probably better to have a directional (on the flat) cue? He seemed to understand my body language though!
Pamela
ParticipantThat was a fun handling skills challenge!
Here we go back to week 2 agility course 1. 1-5 felt good. I misjudged where I should be for the cue to the dog walk! Second time better. I think it would be wise to start heading towards the dog walk while they are weaving, but Rexx doesn’t really like me being too far away so I baby him a bit!
7-11. Oh boy! Dropped 9 (late blind and poor connection?) and when cueing 10-11, I stopped moving. Tried sequence several times! I went with him to 11 tunnel, but in reality would never get to the other side. Tried running parallel, then parallel with other arm out and a helper with treats at tunnel exit. We finally lured him to tunnel entrance and I did one final sequence rewarding him on the line. This skill (and Rexx getting comfortable with working further away from me)is something we will work on.
The rest of the run felt good and again we need to work on distance skills to get 19 and 20.Pamela
ParticipantGreat trick with the water bottle. I tried it prior to doing the video for sequence 3. Sure makes you think!
In the walk-through for sequence 3 I noticed I combined step two and three. Oops!
I feel my arms were lower though!Critical connections were at 2, 6-7-8, 9-10, 11-12. BUT… I should’ve had connection coming out of tunnel 8, but failed to do it in the walk-throughs and on the run!
9-10 was sloppy, so I ran that part again with better results. I probably could have also been closer to 12 as he was going over 11.
Pamela
ParticipantI am pleased you felt my walk through was thorough!
Sequence 2 walk through challenge. Critical connection at 3-4-5, exit of tunnel 6, 9-10-11 and 14 tunnel exit.Did this same day as sequence 1 and my walk through arms were again higher than the run. It seems to be part of my thought process and the run seems to turn out ok. Right or wrong? If I were to answer this myself, I would say wrong because my final run through should mirror my run!
Pamela
ParticipantGreat feedback! I did the fun challenge and tried handling him without pointing with my arms. Didn’t get a video of it, but it was a very interesting learning experience.
I’m now trying to run him with much lower arms as you will hopefully see in next segment when I am running him. Here is Handling Skills week 3 walk through challenge sequence 1.
Hard to hear what I am saying… Step 2 critical connection exiting 2 tunnel, jumps 6-7 and coming out of 8. On walk through 3 and 4, my arms were higher than necessary, but my actual run with Rexx they were lower as mentioned above!
I felt it went well.
I also noted that in my Step 4 run, I stopped way before the end jump! I know I should have run right past it as I did in the run with Rexx.Pamela
ParticipantHello! Because pop out 2 had the common theme of me blocking the wing plus trying a blind cross at 3, I tried it again at my training facility. I felt the first part of the run went well, but then I started to overthink 10 to 11. I felt if I left for 11 sooner that he would not take 10.
Finally got it, but I felt it was late. Also tried that segment at home and I think my blind there was a little bit better. I am still close to 10 though.Pop out 5 went ok, but I thought I could have had a little more connection.
Pop out 6 slow out of tunnel 1, but faster out of tunnel 6 and 10.
Pamela
ParticipantThank you for the feedback! We worked on the Agility course pop outs 1-4.
Pop out 1 and 2 felt pretty good.
Pop out 3! My first run, which I thought would go well when I walked it was very awkward! I then tried 6-7-8 two different ways…plus he went right both times on 10. Final run felt the best as I used better handling throughout. I feel I also could have done a spin from 8-9.
Pop out 4. First run was again a little awkward as I thought a backside slice would be a nice line to 4. I also did a post turn on 7. Ran it again with a wrap on 3 and a spin on 7. Smoother!
Pamela
ParticipantWe tried your suggestions for the some of the jumping pop outs. Pop out 1, we used the spin on 5. Much smoother! I’ve never used brake arms, so I watched quite a few videos on the subject. Definitely something I will need to learn more about.
Pop out 2… I tried layering 4, but we had some hiccups. I felt utilizing the spin and running with him past 4 was much smoother for us (for now!) we will work on more layering skills.
Pop out 3-did I do better driving the line 7-8-9?
Pamela
ParticipantThank you very much for your feedback. All points noted! The reverse spin is a great move and not one that I think to use.
Today we worked on the jumping course pop outs. I did sequence 1 three different ways on jump 4. BC (which I think was late?), jump to my left and jump to my right. Leaving the jump on my left side felt the best.
Sequence 2 was executed two ways on 4. BC (when I run it, it feels OK but when I watch it, it looks late) and jump on left. I did a reverse spin on 7!
We had some minor bloopers doing sequences 3, 4, 5 and 6. I did not show them because they were things we have already discussed so I thought I fixed them and showed you our best runs. -
