KeymasterHi!
I am sure Promise is bored, but it is great to see Potter here!Annalise, you are doing a great job!
Bearing in mind that we canโt rely on his hearing, I watched this without sound ๐ That will help us know what he needs to see in terms of position, timing, and connection. So, yes, keep using your verbals, but we are really going to focus on body language.Sequence 1:
Nice work sorting this one out!! He had a question about the tunnel on that first run:
To set up the rear cross on the tunnel at :05, get closer to jump 3, decel there at 3 and when he catches up, drive to the tunnel so he can get ahead of you for the RC. You looked like you wanted him to enter the tunnel on your left, then hit the brakes and pushed him off the line. You were MUCH better with the decel near 3 at :13 so he drove into the tunnel. The rest looked really good!!I also think you can handle him more aggressively – you are a fast runner so you can easily get the blind cross between the 3 jump and the tunnel rather than have to wait on the rear cross. I felt like you had to slow yourself down a LOT to wait for the rear cross, so you can definitely use your speed to get in there for the BC before the tunnel ๐
Seq 2 – good job on the FC 3-4 at :29 and the BC at :43! You used strong connection after to the cross to be sure he knew it was the jump and not the tunnel.
You can trust him more on the 2-3 line. When he lands from 2, send to 3 and start heading to jump 4. You were helping more than he needed, so you ended up going to the landing side of 3 – so he thought it was the tunnel for a moment, which is why he was wide. If you run more directly to the 4 jump, he will follow your motion and position, and that will take the tunnel out of the picture more.
Great job working on the switch aways at 1:06 and after! The more you decelerated and got him focused on your hands, the better he was able to read the line. At 1:06 you had a lot of motion and not enough hands – but compare it to 1:36 then also when you ran it in sequence, when you decelerated and really emphasized your hands – SUPER!!!
Getting him on your right side for the spin worked perfectly there both on 2 jumps and after the BC when you added the sequence. Just be sure you donโt accidentally show the line to the tunnel when you do the BC like t 2:17 ๐ Keep running to the jump and he will follow your line perfectly.
And getting him into the tunnel on your left was easy peasy of course ๐ โจโจGreat job on all of these! Let me know what you think!

KeymasterHi! I think the length is not as important as the distance between bars, so you can keep replicating basically the same distance by altering how you set up for the 3 foot bars versus the 4 foot bars. It will change the visual slightly, but that is good!
And next year for the Open for Grumio, it will be FUN!

KeymasterAh yes, that worked well too! I like that there are so many options.
Sorry to hear about the rain! Rumor has it that we are getting some here too, in hurricane form LOL! Yes, in theory, there are 7 rings: 3 outdoors, 2 under cover and only 2 fully indoors. We’ve made a schedule change to get all rings under cover for the day the forecast is the worst, and I am sure we will keep making adjustments. We won’t run the dogs outdoors in a hurricane ๐

KeymasterGood morning! Great to see you here ๐ She is doing really well!!!!
My dogs are running around looking for the rooster LOL!
She has good commitment to the line, so you can use a variety of handling options here! Yay!
For all of the starts where she is jumping away from the course, you can start her on more of a slice angle so she has one less turn to do than she does when she is facing the jump straight on.First sequence – looking really good! This is a good one to ask her to slice the #1 jump more by putting her start position near the outer wing of it.
For the backside at 3: add a little more connection before she passes you to get more of a send to it and donโt block the wing (:26) – she needs to lock onto that wing to pass you to the backside ๐
Much better connection at :37 on the backside send! So with that strong connection, you can run to where the wing meets the bar so she sees the wing, no need to put yourself past the wing there.Sequence 2, jumping towards the course – nice line! No problem at all for her. Super!
You can cue and leave sooner for the FC on jump 2, so when she lands from 1 and looks at 2, you can turn and leave for the FC to tighten up the turn a bit.Seq 3, slicing away with the easier angle at 2 – this was a good way to ease her into it! You can definitely start her on an angle for 1 at 1:06 and 1:12, that makes the line easier.
Blinds and FC both workedโฆ but the Blinds got your further ahead with a great turn and a lot of speed from her.
When adding the threadle at 1:26, this is a really good spot to line her up on the outer wing of 1 so she is slicing towards 2. I think she slowed down a bit because of the angle you sent her on was creating a really difficult wrap (you were starting her near the inner wing). If you start her on the outer wing so she slices in extension more, coming into the gap for the threadle will be even easier.
The threadles looked good and so did the turn on the threadle exit!Great job! Let me know what you think!

KeymasterHi! Lots of good work here! My suggestions are in the order you posted the clips, but the skills reps are at the end but I am guessing you did them first.
On the sequences: One overall thing you can add is more acceleration on the 1-2-3 line. He was being careful because you were decelerated. And on the reps with the blinds, you can send him away to 3 more so you can get further up the line for h the blind: the blind should be pretty far ahead so your threadle position is past the wing of the threadle jump.
Video 1 – looks good!! This is a spot where you can send to 3 more to get further ahead for the blind and threadle, which will make the threadle even easier.
Video 2: Push slice on the backside: On this skill, you can stay closer to 3, send to 4 more so you are past the exit wing before he takes off (At :15 you were in his way on landing). The further you can be from the entry wing, the better his exit line will be and the more you can get ahead on course (which he loves :))
Video 3: Back back 1 – On this one, you can send to 3, trust 4, and get way ahead for the blind to set up the threadle. He slowed down 2-3-4, reading your decel.
Video 4: FC to the threadle wrap worked but the blind will be easier – ideally you will use the blind to be past the wing of the 5 jump (threadle jump). Sending to 3 and trusting 4 will make it easier for you both.
Video 5: Back Back with the blind – the blind was not a bad blind as you noted on the video, it was good! I think it felt weird because it was not far enough up the line which made the threadle a little late, so be sure you get ahead and keep moving as you send him through the threadle (he stopped when you stopped there).
Video 6: KK push wrap – He had a question 3-4 there, at :17. It looks like you slowed down and didnโt really turn so he slowed down not sure where to be. Another trust moment ๐ You can send to 3, cue 4 but drive to where the wing and bar meet to show the backside. When he saw it, he did really well, so keep moving as soon as he is past you.
The last few videos were Push slice – on the first one, you had very nice position and you got way ahead! Yay! You can add more connection to look at him more as he lands from 1, which should allow you to send without having to step to the jump as much. Not the next ones, you pushed to the slice from a lot closer to the entry wing, and ended up in his landing spot as he was jumping. So keep practicing sending from the center of the bar (at the closest) and you can keep moving your send position over to be closer to the exit wing too!
The last in in video looked good! He is doing well with the threadles, so you can now try keeping your feet forward more on these (rotating less).
Great job! Let me know what you think!

KeymasterHi!
>>Super short clip of use layering the dog walk at a trial this past weekend. Push to an out hoop and tunnel (NADAC).
This was in NADAC?? I am surprised but in a good way – it is good to hear that these skills are getting put to use everywhere! He looked great! And the hoop is a smaller visual and he was really good about getting it. SUPER!!! And yes, it is really nice that you can try something different on the next run, gotta love it!!!!!
Fingers crossed for good weather! Have fun!

KeymasterGood morning! She did really well here!!!
The first sequence went well! On the opening line: You can leave sooner on the send to 2 – before she passes you after exiting 1, send and leave so you donโt have to rush to the FC as much and can start it sooner (when she lands from 2 and looks at 3, start the FC). The FC was a little late on the first rep and at :25 and 1:01 so she was reading it on landing more than before takeoff.
She was wider on the jumps when you wanted the tunnel and not the extension line, but that was because she needed the turn info sooner. On this sequence, at :29 – you didnโt ask for a turn on 5 so when you said tunnel, she continued forward looking for a tunnel. The tunnel verbal is a strong forward verbal, so you will want to cue the turn and make sure she is looking at the tunnel before you say tunnel ๐
You had a better and earlier shoulder turn at 1:05 so she turned but she was wide – I think decel and maybe a brake arm (outside arm) will help there too, all as she is passing the off course tunnel and before she chooses a takeoff for the jump.
2nd sequence:
Good job at 1:15 and 1:32 getting the jump and not the tunnel, especially after she had done the tunnel a bunch of times! And great job getting the tunnel when you cued it – good line there! For the jump after the FC: You can be closer to the jump there – your position looked like you were closer to the tunnel, so she was looking at the tunnel til after landing. You can be closer to the jump to take the tunnel out of the picture even more and get a better turn.At 1:33 when you wanted the turn to the tunnel after the FC, remember to ask for a turn before takeoff. So as soon as she lands from 3 at 1:32, you can be decelerating and cuing the left turn over 4 (verbal, decel, brake arm if needed) and that will get a nice tight turn there too!
Great job! Let me know what you think!

KeymasterHi! He did well here!
He is finding the lines nicely. On the send to the #3 backside, he had a question:
On the around to the #3 backside, more connection will help smooth things out – when you say around at :04, keep your dog side arm back and look at his eyes the whole time.
At :05, when you are looking ahead, he is looking at you because connection is broken and he is not sure when to be. Keeping your dog side arm lower and not pointing forward while you look at his eyes will get him looking ahead and not at you ๐ Totally counterintuitive! But works really well, because it shows the dog the line by pointing your shoulders to it.You can take this concept and do the next sequences too it – that strong connection will help on any line.
Great job! Let me know how he does on the next sequences!
TracyTracy Sklenar
KeymasterGood morning! She did really well here and yes, she reads your cues pretty perfectly!
I couldnโt hear your verbals that well, so I am assuming they were all perfect ๐Looking at sequence 1:
You can start the blind sooner so you are connected before takeoff for 2 (:03, :27). The timing at :43 was better because it was earlier, you started after she landed from 1 and looked at 2.
To show the line 5-6: Try to get past the tunnel 4-5 (:08 and :35) – it is a trust thing: you can send to the 4 backside and leave sooner. Stay connected and trust that she will see the line (as long as you stay connected :))To get the line 5 to the tunnel, you can get up to 5 and as she is asking the tunnel, you can add in an earlier decel and brake arm (and name call), all before she decides how long to jump over 5.
You used an arm at :59 but it was after landing – use it as she is deciding how to approach 5. And watch her head there: if she has not turned her head, keep calling her and handling the turn. Donโt say tunnel (which is a forward cue) til after she has turned.
Next sequence:
She was a bit wide on the FC 3-4, but that was because your position at 1:09 and 1:23 was too far over to the tunnel. As she was approaching the jump for the FC, she saw you moving to the landing side which shows the line to the tunnel. Even when you were earlier on the FC, she was still wide based on the line you were showing. So send her to 3 but stay closer to the 4 jump, and you will see her jump nice and tight to 4.Great job!!! Let me know what you think!

KeymasterOMG! That is crazy weather for sure!!! We are going to keep going for a little longer than planned in this class, so hopefully the weather calms down ๐ Keep me posted!
TracyTracy Sklenar
KeymasterGood morning! She did well here!
She organizes differently with her hind end when you move faster and are further ahead – she lifts/carries her hind end more than she pushes from it like she does when you are not moving as fast. It is a subtle difference but she was working through it very nicely here!!! By the end she was using her hind better when you were moving more – she added a stride on the 2nd to last rep but I think that was more about you standing still near jump 1 and pulling her in. She didn’t add a stride on the last rep when you stayed in motion.
So for the next backside session, send to the backside from further away, so you show it to her with you further ahead but not moving fast. And, on some reps, start closer and moving a little faster ๐ We are basically showing her “faster” and “further ahead” separately… and then if that goes well, we can put the two together further down the road.
The only change to the setup that I would suggest is moving the bowl target another 2 meters further from jump 2. It was a little close to the 2nd jump here, so she had to slow down immediately. If it is further away, she can stay in extension as she lands and then run to the bowl.
Great job!! Keep me posted on how she does!
TracyTracy Sklenar
KeymasterGood morning!
She did well with the 3 jumps!
It had some good challenges for her too – I believe she needs to see this without the moving target for a session or two, because she was really driving to the target but not always organizing her striding.
On the 1st rep, she was rushing a bit to something off screen (probably the moving target) and on the 2nd rep, she was watching her black ball rolling on the left side of the screen (I donโt think that was the target, but if you play it in slow motion you can see her turning her head to look at it). And on the 6th rep, she was probably hurrying to the moving target when. The 2nd bar dropped. So a session of stationary target should help that. Then you can add back a sloooowly moving target ๐>>Iโm not sure I set her up as well as I could have
The best reps came when she was in a stand to start and her shoulder was not past the jump cups. The 3rd rep is a good example of that. On the other reps, like the last 2, she was more centered on the bar and a bit too close, which made it harder.
So with the 3 jumps, try a stationary reward target and let me know how she does!
The wing wraps with just the wing were a great warm up – the first rep had her back feet kind of splayed (outdoors is exciting!) but then she immediately organized on the next reps and did really well, including when you added the bar! Super!!!!! I like what she was going on the platform and over the bar. I think the you can use a cookie bowl if cheese is more magical than a dead toy here, to keep her from looking at you. Or a lotus ball if you have one.
So the next session here can be a wing wrap added in before the plank/wrap on t he bar. Then you can play with the backside version of this too.
Great job! Let me know how she does!
TracyTracy Sklenar
KeymasterHi! He is doing really well!! And the little sides to the plank help remind him about his organization because they fall off when he is not fully organized LOL!!!
I would do one more short session before adding the bar: In that next session, switch to cookies only coming from a reward target (like a bowl or MM placed past the wrap exit of the wing) and not from your hand or in the sit position. Because he is looking at your hands, he is angling a bit to the side and not sitting fully organized – but that is a reward placement thing more than a struggle thing LOL!! Cookies are life!
And add in the wing wrap before the organizer to the wing. That adds speed into the game as well.
Once those last 2 pieces are comfy (the reward target and the wing wrap before the organizer), onwards to adding the bar!
Great job! Keep me posted on how he does!
TracyTracy Sklenar
KeymasterHi!
This was a good session overall! She definitely understands the framework of the game which helps us be able to work through the next series of games easily.I think she was slipping off the side with her right hind because she was getting the treats for sittingโฆ so she was trying to look at you. AND the treats and that is hard to do on a narrow plank. That is an easy fix with the next step – no more cookies in position when she sits ๐ As soon as you see she has done the sit, release to go around the wing to the MM. So after the cue to sit, be sure to watch her hind end. When you see she is fully sitting, release to the MM. Take your time to be sure she is fully sitting, no need to try for a fast release ๐
For now, the MM is in a good location. As you add the bar fro the wraps, you can move the MM further around the wing, so she finishes the wrap, takes a stride, then arrives at the MM.
Great job! Let me know how she does with the next steps!
TracyTracy Sklenar
KeymasterGood morning!
I think the length of the bars worked well here and you created good distances for him. It was a good session!!
A couple of ideas for you:
He seems to have a really good stay, so Tte further from the 2nd jump you lead out to, the better the grid goes. It is an extension grid so being 6 feet past jump 2 when you release gets more extension for him, which is good! When you released at the wing of the 2nd jump, he ticked the first bar. So trust his lovely stay and lead out well past jump 2 and see what he does. And if he breaks the stay, go back to reset him in the right spot because he re-sits himself in a strange place then the grid doesn’t work as well LOL!!The first part of the session (4 or 5 reps, I believe, in the first 2 minutes) went really well so it was good to make it slightly harder. And it was indeed harder! But that is fine ๐ When he was jumping left to right (across the screen to the left), I feel that he was having to think a little harder about it but still executing it properly, definitely his stronger side for this.
When he was going right to left (move across the screen to your right), it was definitely harder for him and he had lots of organization questions (some added strides trying to balance).
I was typing in a suggestion to try being on the other side (leading out on your right, where the 2 wings are touching, rather than leading out on your left) to see if that shows a slightly different line and that is what you did on that last rep – and he bounced! Yay!
You ended the session there which was the exact correct thing to do. When you revisit this, you can be on that side and if he adds strides, you can make it easer on that side but making the angles of the jumps easier, and keep it harder on the other side. You can do 2 reps in the hard direction, then make it harder and go 2 reps in the easier direction, etc.
Overall, a really strong session! His question on the harder side in one direction is perfectly fine, because we want to make sure we are challenging him enough but not so much challenge that his brain explodes LOL! He is doing great!!!
You can keep playing with the 2 jump grid as part of your training rotation, and you can also revisit the backsides. When you add in the backsides, make the distances easier and have your reward already placed about 10 feet past jump 2 because he is too fast for you to sent to the backside, run AND get the reward in place before he looks at you ๐
Great job! Have fun!
