ParticipantGood morning! Throwing in another video! Lap turn with prop from this morning! 😀 We have our last puppy class tonight so I wanted to get this here for you. Tandem didn’t go so well, I was doing a post turn LOL so I stopped and watched your video again. We’ll try that another day 🙂

One thing to add is walking away from her forward rather than backing away
Ok! Got it! 🙂 That did look kinda awkward 😛
We gave it a Go with SSC Fold It In, way baby steps because of the bowl & keeping her from it. I think I may need to work on some IYC bowl games! She will wait (with a reminder) for anything I put in front of her- food puzzle, snuffle mat/ball, food bowl, but in this context not so much.
You mention in the lecture to use my wrap cue. Thinking of verbal cues… I want to teach her a cue for left and right wraps, can I say Check for left & Dig for right? I’ve never used these words (just had switch & tight with my previous dogs) so I want to do better this time 😀 Anyway, can these be my L & R wrap cues which is a 180 turn and then use ??? for a soft turn – anything that is not a 180? Switch I’ll use for turn away from me, but I don’t know what to say for those soft turns! 😀
Here is our Left & Right Wraps! 🙂 Thanks!

Stay Game without clicker – I like that better- less for me to think about! LOL! and like you said she doesn’t need it.
Question! I have been using OK as my release word for other things pretty much since day 1 – for example when she has to wait for her food puzzle, topple or if she’s waiting in her crate to come out. It didn’t occur to me until this Stay Game that I am also using OK for drive to handler- I’m rewarding her at my side. Do I need to use Break instead for the agility context or anytime I have her in a stay and she is driving towards me, which could be in a crate? I keep referring to being in a crate for 2 reasons, she’s been in the crate for a period of time & I’m allowing her out or our routine for when she comes in from pottying or play. I have a craete setup by the back door (not the one she’s in during the day) this is just there for anyone to go in. When she comes in from outside she hops in there so I toss cookies to her. Now since the stay game has been introduced to us, I say catch! But when I release her from being in there I have been saying OK and giving her a cookie. I guess 2 questions- should I say a different word like Break or do I even need to release her from the crate?
Back to the Stay Game 🙂 I added in duration, distance & used the quiet praise word Nice – she broke on “Nice”. She thought it was nice too & deserved to get paid 😀 Do you think I pushed too much with duration & distance? When I do distance (in a real space lol) should I always maintain eye contact? So like a for real start line stay, always maintain eye contact when I lead out?
Thanks! 🙂

We took a stab at the Stay Game – Catch & Ok. Am I understanding this correctly, the only cue we are giving the dog is the Release cue? We never say Stay (or Wait is what I have been using when she needs to wait before exiting her crate) When does the Stay cue come into the picture? Once they know it then we start saying it? Or are they learning this position (sit) means stay put until I release you?
Catch – once I got my mechanics were correct it went Ok. My mechanics meaning I was clicking before I moved (not in this video) in our first session.
Here is OK (Drive to Handler) – The first 2 reps I forgot to click, then after that Sunnie released on the clicker. I stopped after 2. I didn’t know what to do. When I release her from her crate I am sometimes in this position (drive to handler) to do a hand touch, sometimes I face her & she does a hand touch. Most of the time she gets a cookie for either the HT or “driving” to my hand. I don’t know if this carries over into this, but I thought I would mention it! 😀

ParticipantTracy we got a Beep Beep! I let this one rest for a bit until now. I wanted to see where we were at. Look at this!! 😀 I was so excited as you can see LOL! How can I fade away that down? We tried it again tonight, all I got was her wanted to down & zero back up LOL!!
Before I added the prop, we needed a warm up with tandem & lap turns 🙂
Here is our shot at tandem turn with the prop
I think I went a bit too long with the tandem turn because I got confused at one point while doing the lap turn & had to cut it short lol!
Question – for the start line game, should I use a different word for agility start line? Right now I say Wait before opening the crate door. Once I open it & she gives me eye contact I say Ok, she hops out or sometimes have her come to my side for a hand touch 🙂 Other than that she does not have a formal stay like in a sit or down outside the crate. Guess I should teach her that at some point, lol!

ParticipantGood Morning! Thank you for the feedback! 🙂
First I gotta tell you about our lesson 🙂 Sunnie walked in the arena like she owned it, gazed around & walked thru the gate like it was nothing. Check out the equipment, as we got closer to a tunnel she went in by herself- she knows play tunnels from the breeder- although her technique including launching herself on it! 😀 We did some tunnel ‘handling’ which was so much fun for her & she understoof it! Then Deb held her & I did a bunch of handling (L/R sides) – all the handling we have been doing in my 10×10 space, but this time we got to run!!! She latched onto the toy-toy too! This is HUGE for me personally because all of my other dogs worked for food only. (I didn’t know how to teach toy play) Yes, I know each dog is different, in terms of toy & food play, but you gave me the tools to enhance what Sunnie already loves – now both food & toys!! THANK YOU!
Now I see what I was doing with the Tandem Turn- I wasn’t doing it at all – good to know what I was doing is “something” LOL! After the lap turns, you were doing threadle wrap foundations where she did a complete circle while you kept moving forward.
And thank you for giving me feedback on the threadle wrap 😀Here is our morning session of Tandem Turn & Lap Turn.
I stayed close to her for Tandem turn & did a lot of luring so we both could get the mechanics 🙂 When I switched sides I started to get Middle 😀 So I broke it down, just did the turn & then tried with a ‘start’ Do you have a cue word for this one? Do I need one for this?
Lap turn- I tried using a lotus ball so I could toss her cookies (kibble) and thinking this is better because all the pieces wouldn’t go everywhere. You’ll see what happened with the lotus ball. Took me a sec to figure out why she wasn’t moving, I’ve alwayd thrown the lotus ball for Get It. If I’m thinking correctly she saw it & expected me to throw it so she froze – like she does- So I switched back to food in my hand. Do you have a cue word for this one? Do I need one for this? 😀
Strike a pose with a bowl 😀 she knows her bowls from vito games! I probably should have showered her with cookies when she made the connection? Thinking it is important to imprint the behavior she figured out? Also, she was doing a drive by touch, barely touching my hand & I rewarded her for it- should I have done anything differently here?

ParticipantGood Morning! Lap Turn & Tandem Turn – FUN! But I need help please! 😀
Margaret Daunt
ParticipantHi Tracy! Thank you for the feedback- your suggestion was brilliant, totally gave her clarity!
For the next session, start with your feet together and a low target hand while you are standing, so she locks onto the target and not your feet 🙂
Strike a Pose!
Also, thank you for examples of what games represent what 🙂

ParticipantYou for the examples! Would you mind reviewing my strike a pose video too? 🙂

ParticipantYou can alternate training focus on different days. For example, Monday can be body awareness games day! Tuesday can be handling games day! Wednesday can be obstacle games day! Thursday can be resilience games day! And Friday, Saturday, Sunday can match Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. That way you get a little bit of everything throughout the week.
I LOVE this idea!! Can you please give me an example of what games represent what? For example for this week. Does each Game package include all these elements? Resilience I know because the game name tells me so LOL!
Thank you!! 🙂

ParticipantHi Tracy! Thank you for the feedback! 🙂
So you can have something exciting off to the side more, and cue engagement with the prop by sending her to it, or doing the parallel path game.
Ah! Cueing the prop – yeah what a concept! LOL! Yes I will do that next time! I basically gave her a picture of go pick an object smh 😀
Thank you for the tips on when it’s ok to “wait her out” 🙂
So this is what happens when you teach your puppy Middle and she thinks it’s the bomb diggity! 🙂 So I did some trouble shooting and success at the end. SUPER proud of Sunnie figuring this out. I kneeled down so she didn’t have a passage thru my legs, lol, however she still tried at first, but the door was closed! And then made my way back up to a stand, fully prepared to end at any point if we needed to.
