ParticipantHi Kim!
What I meant was, after we do several reps (I’m mixing them up now, not doing the same sequence) Kelsie was running to the chair because she knows I was going to bring out the food. But the info you gave me above totally helped with the session we had last night. I didn’t give in to The Chair, lol! I was able to get her back in the game with just toy play and Me!
1:32 – chair – got her back
2:00 – chair- got her back
2:46- chair- got her back
3:15 lost interest in that toy (which is actually a little HR on fleece lol) so I got out the Hollee Roller, which seems to always jazz her up!
4:00 back to the chairThis was our complete training session last night. I wanted you to see all the play portions to let me know if I’m playing correctly (that sounds funny, but I know how important it is, esp. for Kelsie!) and did I end our session OK? From 4:00 on I played with her, let her have it and then put it away. She had Zero food during this session- gotta say that’s a first!!! Thanks Kim! 🙂

ParticipantHi Kim!
Yes, I totally get what you’re saying about defaulting to food. Kelsie’s smart and food driven so that wouldn’t take long for her to figure it out if she hasn’t already!
Couple questions- Hollee Roller seems to be her favorite toy, so I’ll start with another toy to start the training session & use the HR to get one last play before we quit. Question on that- so say we get 2 reps of the exercise (which seems to be the pattern with Kelsie) she heads to the chair, I should get the HR and get some play out of her and then end our training session? If she doesn’t engage in play with a toy or just me even, what do I do? And if I do get her to play and then quit, can I go back to the training session after giving her a break (I’ll work Lexie in between) or are we done for the evening?
When I go to class, should I just use food from the start? Or can I use a toy for the first exercise and then when it’s our turn again use food? We know she will work for food ALL the time!
I just need to know how to handle certain situations so I’m not reinforcing the wrong thing! The sooner I do it correctly the better- for Kelsie! 🙂
Thank you for the other tips- jump height, MM & course! I entered SS 🙂 Also, I enrolled in Foundation Fitness thru Bobbie Lyons Canine Campus with Danielle Hall 🙂

ParticipantHi!
Here’s our weave speed circle 🙂 I used 2 different sets of WP just to see if either one matter to her. Apparently not, lol! The first set however, she popped out, I don’t know why, she never pops out! Do you think it was the colored pole? Of course I didn’t see it (until I watched the video) because I was running straight ahead! She didn’t miss any other sets so I’m not terribly worried.
You can see when she was done with the hollee roller. Is this Ok? We play some with the HR then she opts out and wants me to use cookies. She’s still fired up with cookies so that’s good right?
I ran her at 16″ for the entire session. I wasn’t sure what height to start her at. I had in my head, can’t remember which week it was, that you mentioned running them low until they are running fast and enjoying it right? I think I’ve got her at that point now, compared to weeks ago, so should I start her at 20″ and then lower if I feel she’s getting tired? Same for class? I plan on seeking out just speed circles for class- at least the class at my house. Once I resume back to our ‘real’ class (off my property) I will touch base with you for a plan of action 🙂
Think I should use MM next session? Where should I place it? I need to practice using it randomly and not always in the same spot too! 🙂
A new SS would definitely put ME to the test too! Is SS the logical choice of course type to run Kelsie? 🙂 I’ve never run in UKI before until May with the home trials. So I’m not familiar with the other courses for Beginner/Novice level. Are jumpers courses at that level just as flowy? You tell me what I should enter to run 🙂
Here we go….

ParticipantHi Kim!
How cool to see the continued progress of your student! I want Kelsie & I to be THAT Team! 😉Can you please help me game plan what to do this week with Kelsie? Base on the weather, I plan on training her Tues, Thurs, Sat- class will be at my house so I’ll submit that & Sunday we (the humans lol) will not be home. Before Kelsie was spayed (end of May) I was just working on drive lines with her. Also, I sold my DW, new one has not arrived yet, but I have everything else!
You had mentioned in your first response to me that you wanted to see me run the SS course I posted @ 12″. Do you still want me to do that? Maybe next week? Monday, I took off so I’ll have time then to set the course & run it. Or I could enter this weekend’s trial and run that next Monday too?
I LOVE your saying!! My answers are exactly what I’m doing with Kelsie! I need to put that on a card and throw it in my agility bag, so I can ask myself this at a trial and keep my head about me for my girl! And when (& if) we train off my property it’s not forgotten. Also great for my other dog too! Thank you for that! 🙂

ParticipantHi Kim!
Took a few days off 🙂 Thought we were going to have class on Sat so I gave Kelsie a break on Friday, no dice, the weather had other plans! 🙁 Today I took Lexie Dock Diving, another week and then Kelsie can get crazy in the pool, lol!
Thank you for your compliment! Only one person knows exactly what I have put into bringing the best out in Kelsie AND keeping me on the right path. Now 2 people know 😉 maybe not the specifics, but you know I’ve got my whole heart in this dog 🙂 Thank you for your continued support too, THAT means a whole alot to me!!! Kelsie too, if she knew you were the one helping us, especially the part to use bigger cookies, lol!
In the beginning of the course I wanted time to go quick for 2 reasons- one so I could fully work/play with Kelsie and two I wanted to learn more & more! Now I’m sad we are about to enter our last week with you, but at the same time, glad that Kelsie and I got to share US with you 🙂
Bring on week 6!!Margaret Daunt
ParticipantHi Kim!
Thank you so much! All this good stuff coming out of Kelsie would not have been possible without your help and guidance! 🙂 It totally warms my heart watching her with these drills! I’ve never seen her so happy and charged up while playing agility! <3
Thank you for the tips with the MM. I need to go back and review rewards stations! Yeah I see what you mean about rewarding her @ 3:25, I’ve got to be more aware of those situations, it will definitely help keep her on her toes, lol and me not being so predictable with rewards. Utilize the things I have right?! 🙂 Yes, I have a cue “Get It” which means go get that +R reward!
Learning to change jumps heights is A+ advise too and sooooo helpful for Kelsie. I will always keep that on my mind, especially when I go back to class, I’ll just let the instructor know – ok we’ll do 16″ this round, right?
Thanks Kim!Margaret Daunt
ParticipantHi Kim!
No trial in July but maybe in Aug! Same location, Nov/Open trial, at night, 50 runs, fingers crossed I get in! 🙂
Funny you should mention Bobbie! I was on her website yesterday morning game planning!
Last night we ran Drill #2. I started out with 12 weaves and a MM – Kelsie hasn’t seen weaves since March, it was hot so I wanted to give her a little incentive. I’ve only used the MM a couple times (I just bought one in March) as you can suspect Kelsie learned all about it quickly, lol! You will see once the MM was in the picture, her toy became Meh, which I thought might happen, but I was ready to go to plan B! Next switched out to hollee roller and then went to food for obvious reasons.
At about 3:45 is where 16″ starts and 6 weave poles and a shortened sequence, I wanted to end on a good note! 🙂
Super proud of Kelsie hanging in even when MM didn’t give her what she wanted, lol! AND these weaves are the best she’s EVER done!! Drivey & Fast! I was ecstatic the first time she went thru!! Her mindset (and mine!!) truly has a huge impact on how she performs- looking back at the trial video compared to HW video! True test will be if I can get this at a trial or any other environment, but I am hopeful!

ParticipantHi Kim!
Yes, definitely paying attention to what makes her ‘tick’ and where! Just last Sat at class at my house, I started out with a toy, like we do in training, but by the 2nd go around I switched to food. She didn’t have the same Gung Ho attitude with the toy like she did during the week when it was just me & her. Interesting!
Dying to try all these new things at a trial (but I’m not traveling yet to the limited ones available)! Got an email tonight letting me know I didn’t get in the night trial for next Wed 🙁 There’s another one in Aug, I emailed the trial secretary to see if there are any runs available before I send in an entry!
Setup Drill #2 tonight. I substituted tunnel #5 for 6 weaves (or should I use 12). Is that OK? I feel I need to show you her weaves (now that can), since she pretty much sniffed her way thru them at our last trial (my first video posted).
Regarding fitness – I don’t do any specific exercises. Can you please recommend what I should be doing with Kelsie? I’d love to keep her sound & fit! During the work week I get them out to the trail (it’s flat) average 3 x’s a week about 2.5 miles, that’s all I have time for after work to still have time to train/play in the yard. Weekends we go longer 5-6 miles, but Kelsie hasn’t come with us yet.
Tomorrow we will run Drill #2 – it’s our last day (even tho’ it will be hot) before we get 5 days of thunderstorms! 😀 🙁
Thanks Kim!

ParticipantHi Kim!
Here she is at 20″! How do you think she looks? Keep her at this until the trial next week? I plan on running Drill #2 Thurs and then again on Sat, weather permitting!I set the camera angle so you can see where she runs to. My bag of stuff- toys & cookies are on that chair you see. At 1:29 she goes over there, I tried to re-engage with a toy, wasn’t really interested, but still interested in playing, so I loaded up with S&C and loaded up a couple lotus balls (I edited that out, lol). At 4:17 Pink Panther came out 🙂 not sure if you can see it, but I didn’t release her until she was looking forward 🙂
On a side note, what height do you like her jumping, 16″ or 20″? Do you think she’s putting more effort into 20 than 16 in this video vs yesterday? I know what I see, I want your opinion please! 🙂
Thank you!!
Margaret Daunt
ParticipantThank you!! I love watching my videos of her, even tho its simple stuff, it’s what’s coming behind it- Happy, Playful Kelsie with agility and ME! 😀
Regarding jump heights- totally makes sense- thank you!
If the weather holds out later, I may try her @ 20″ – what do you think? 🙂

ParticipantHi Kim!
Tonight’s session was literally impromptu 🙂 I setup Drill #1 after we got back from our short 2 mile hike (hot & humid today) By the time we got back home it became overcast & thunder was rolling in the distance. Anyway, when I was done building, Kelsie looked like she wanted to do something so I put Lexie up in the house, grabbed my tablet, a toy & a handful of S&C treats. This session is at 16″. How do you think she looks? I chose Drill #1 for 16″ since it was simple, drivey and not much handling. At first, I forgot to drive to the tunnel like you mentioned above, but did it later on. 🙂
Kim regarding jump height when training, should I keep her ‘low’ for training and when we know we are trialing raise it up? I guess I’m asking how do you balance it out? Other than the trial next week, I have no more in the near future, maybe in Sept, depends what’s happening in the world 🙁
Here’s tonights fun! 😀

ParticipantHi Kim!
Thank you for the feedback! She does make me smile when I watch her videos 🙂 You’re right, we had tons of connection and engagement, that was reaffirmed by the video for me!Friends thought she looked great!! I’ve shared recent video with a couple friends (they live in different states) who have been on my journey with Kelsie from the beginning and they were off the charts happy with what they saw 😉 We’re taking a break today and playing some other (non) agility games!
A few questions for you 🙂
Should we go up to 16″ for week 5 exercises?
Also, I entered a trial last minute (hopefully I get in) on the 15th (Wed) Since the pandemic hit agility has been the furthest from my mind and even now with trials slowly coming back, but I would like to try out our new stuff in a trial environment while we are in class for you to review 🙂 This trial is only Nov/Open, outdoors, 50 runs max and it’s at night (I’ve never done a night trial!). So it fits all the things that are “ok” with me during these strange times. I don’t even know if I can do this after the closing date, but should I see if I can change my entry to one run 16″ & one run 20″? We are running STD & JWW.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Kim,
That’s weird, I emailed it yesterday, oh well! I ended up making up my own course 🙂 btw-I really didn’t want her doing the AF because she stops, so I just didn’t hold her there very long, I think she did ok regardless! The fact that she took off pretty good is A+, there was a time she hung out there until she got her cookie! LBG Rocks 😉It took me a little to settle in. I think I needed acclimation to our new surroundings, yes it was my yard, yes it was with friends, new routine & I haven’t seen these people or trained with people in quite some time! So very first run, I’m distracted right off the bat (talking to me while I’m engaged with my dog) you see what happens, slight disconnect, thankful I was able to recover & get her back, I think the leash saved me. Watch what happens at around :38, this is what happens when I am not in the right mindset. I was still bothered by my concentration being broken and was thinking TOO much 🙁 Kelsie does not like when I act freaky, she’ll check out, she doesn’t like it. I ended up aborting because I couldn’t think fast enough to salvage it. 🙁 What should I have done here?
I ended up going with food. The toys were not doing it and in order to be successful with play, I switched it up. Maybe because we were at ‘class’ and that’s what she knows, who knows, lol, but I feel it was the right choice. I also gave her cookies at her crate- like at a trial or previous classes. She jumps in and waits for them 🙂
At 2:42 I forgot what I was doing, so I was way late for the turn, but tried to make the best of it and not let Kelsie know that wasn’t what I intended. At 3:26 is when we went into conversation, how’d I do with keeping Kelsie engaged? The sequence that followed is what she wanted me to try, I don’t normally handle Kelsie like that, not running to every obstacle (which is not “NADAC style” unless you have a slow dog) I cringed when I watched the video, lol, but I think she did ok with it?! At the end of the last jump I had a pre placed lotus ball which my friend put too far away- do you see Kelsie looking back? Do you think she didn’t see it or was my Get It late? Get It means drive to that R+ reward on the ground.
Some take aways for me personally from today’s class. Because my friend only runs NADAC as do all of her students ( I did too until I realized 4 yrs later it wasn’t fun for me & Lexie, it was frustrating, and Kelsie has only run AKC) she handles differently and shows them the same. I need to run for My dogs, not worry about the Chances line (I didn’t with Kelsie obviously lol! but I did with Lexie & quickly aborted that idea) run them like I always do & if I have to improvise the course then so be it. Bring a list of reminders for each dog so I don’t loose sight of either. I don’t want Kelsie to ever feel like she has to check out with me!

ParticipantHi Kim!
I emailed the course 🙂 I’m going to try to get video of class tomorrow!
Thank you for the feedback! I’m so excited too that we are making progress and most importantly Kelsie is having FUN!!
Ok, now I have to go watch your video!!
Thank you for sharing – that was fun to watch and I totally can see her run differently when your tentative vs aggressive. I knew Kelsie was running at my speed, but what I didn’t know is how to change that, run faster?! What if I couldn’t, lol?! Now I know, running aggressively, like that $100 is there at every obstacle right?! 🙂 This hits the mark! Thank you so much for that!!-

ParticipantHi Kim!
Tonight we played with Drill #1! Much better with food after toys. She doesn’t have much use for the lotus tug toy, I mean she likes the lotus ball part, but no tugging with it after. It’s ok, I’ll just add it to the lotus ball collection, lol! Tried to incorporate lots of play in between. It was hot & humid tonight, even with the sun behind clouds. You’ll see Kelsie run off, when the sun is out it’s shady there, but today the entire yard was overcast. I wonder if she’s running over there to get cookies like after a run at a trial? I’m not sure because when it is sunny and if I’m not right there with her, she’ll lay down, but lately I’ve been trying to remain engaged with her and get back to the sequence and you see she complies so… I’m not sure what to make of that, maybe I need to get that on video so we can observe & what I should do?! 🙂 I bought a wide angle lens for my tablet, should be coming any day!
2 things I need to ask you. Sat my friend is using my yard to have a class for her students. She’s setting up a NADAC chances course, can I email it to you (I don’t know how to attach here) to take a look at it and let me know how I should run it with Kelsie? I don’t care about doing it correctly, I care about running it for Kelsie with what we have been working on. Which leads me to my 2nd question. 🙂
How do I incorporate what we have learned/what we are doing into a class situation just because of the time restraints? I feel like our new routine is: play as we go setup, run a short sequence and reward with toy and play with me? While the instructor gives feedback, continue to engage with Kelsie, with tricks or tug? Sorry, this balancing act is new to me (I always just used food & the lotus ball) and I don’t want to mess up the good thing we have by outside influences, outside people pressures while I do my new thing with Kelsie. I’m not back to my normal class, with my normal instructor yet. (I’m not in any hurry, not trialing and I’m working on other things with my dogs! 🙂 )
Here’s our fun from tonight! Proud of her for hanging in with the heat! I can tell you this is a different Kelsie than from March (our last trial) and even months after when I was doing the UKI trials!! 🙂 Thank You!!
