Argggg. I’m having a bad tech day. I built sequence one pop out of the agility course since it was just jumps.

First rep bought me the backside of 3. Plan was left turn/FC 3 start DOR. Second rep I got it but had to pull her to get the correct line to 3. Ultimately I figured out to set her further to the right one the start jump so she us jumping closer to the left wing. I did not see the backside on her line. Sprite did!

Then we did the RC wrap. First rep blind 2-3 to a Jaakko turn. Then, we worked the tandem RC wrap. She did some decent turns.

But..you’ll have to take my word for it. When I went to edit I was staring at the barn, fence and concrete. Somehow when I turned to iPad on I must have flipped the camera. I was NOT happy.

I’ll see if I can get to the park tomorrow.

    Hi Tracy,

My friend built the course for me at the training yard yesterday for me to use today. Yay! However, the way she built it didn’t leave a great camera angle that wasn’t directly into the sun. So, sorry it’s hard to see.

A few tunnel send disconnections bought me a serp jump! I mostly moved on so this is all that we did. She was getting tired towards the end. On the last exercise we never got the right turn out of the tunnel. You probably can’t see it but she exited left and turned around and went right back in. Tried the blind once. Scary! She went behind me and didn’t take the tunnel. But, the rear cross got left turns and re entry.

Also, first chiro visit today and she had a rib out and a few decent adjustments. But, she was really good and allowed the manipulation. That might explain why her left turns deteriorated. Poor baby.

    Hi Tracy,

On the zig zag grid. She was perfect the first rep. But, if I softened the angle she added a check stride. So, I guess I’ll try again when it’s cooler and barely move it.

I had the yard today, but it was already 86 at 10 am. So, I just put 4 jumps out. Hauling the tunnel by myself isn’t easy in this heat. We broke it down and she did much better. Bars at 16 because It’s hot! Plus, Gemma ran first and I didn’t bother to change them.

Interesting about lefty versus righty. I’ve just started doing multi wraps with Sprite to help her turns. At 10 in, she is definitely better turning left. We worked right a little more. Then, I did one session with the bar at 16 and right looked better than left. So, who knows which is her preferred side!

    Hi Tracy,

We tried the live sequences, but didn’t get very far. It’s VERY hot here and threadles are not easy for me. She mostly remembered the slice threadle, but we couldn’t get either the threadle wrap or the tandem turn. I only have the yard for an hour and building takes up most of that time. I have to shove the toy in my pocket too as it was dangling and distracting. Tried food too. We got through the first sequence, but I didn’t get the threadle wrap or tandem turn and I couldn’t keep trying due to the heat. I can probably put just the three jumps up in my yard to see if we can work on it more. I’ll have to revisit the mechanics as she clearly has no idea what I want.

    Hi Tracy,

Thanks for adding the coordinates! It helps a lot.

So, I looked at my video and I’m running more parallel to the bar rather than perpendicular for the tandem turn. I can see how Sprite would be confused about that. I’ll work on running at the bar to present the line better. This sequence also had a double lead change. They exit the tunnel on a left lead, have to switch to a right lead to get to the jump and then back to a left lead to turn left and present jump 6. That’s a lot of fast footwork.

I’ll dig out the zigzag exercises. That’s a hard task for Sprite to keep changing leads. Is there another exercise to help with that? She is organizing herself better overall. Yay!

I’ve also pulled one way to push the other way in rear crosses and I’m trying to be better about not doing that.

It’s doubtful I’ll get back to the park before Friday. So, I’ll see what the lives bring Thursday or try the agility pop outs at the park. There were 4 courses and that’s too many so one training session. So, I’d have to chose two.

    Hi Tracy,

Would it be possible to put the course measurements on the pop outs? It isn’t exactly the same as the big courses as best I can tell. But, I’m coarse builder challenged.

We did the jumping pop outs that did not include weaves. Right as I started to set the course the lawn crew showed up. Luckily, I only had the long line out and had just started to build. They are very nice and finished quickly, but it was hotter when we started and Gemma ran first.

I’m still struggling with the RC wrap tandem turn. I liked the throw back a lot better here! The bars towards the end were fatigue and I just did the one extra run that she rocked and then stopped. It’ll start getting hot here soon which makes things more challenging. She does sometimes drop bars on backsides in general.

    Thanks Tracy,

She got cookies when I screwed up the first rep.

I didn’t think to open the FFC videos looking for the throw backs. Thanks for posting them. It makes more sense when you are already rotated to use the throw back. I was confused about getting there, but I think it makes sense now. I’m hoping to get to the park tomorrow for the mini courses. Can’t wait for Thursday!

    Hi Tracy,

I looked through the max pup stuff and couldn’t find a throw back video. Is there one somewhere? I know you aren’t home and you may not know exactly where everything is!

Yes, Sprite was a good girl with the out jump. I felt like I lead out too far and was running out of room.

We tried one jump throw back and RC wrap. Left the bar at 16. I’m thinking a lot with the throw back. Is this even correct? I’d need to get a lot better before using it on a course. I recall the one jump standing still and send while facing the dog and sending back. I just don’t recall having a drill where we did this skill.

    Hi Tracy,

I’m still confused by the throw back. The course was DOL. So, if I FC it would turn the dog to the right, correct? I’m trying to slow down your video, but jump 5 is far away. It looks like you turned into the dog, threw back the left arm and then BC to get dog on right? If you start DOL then how is the new arm still the left arm? We are really trying to get a RC wrap on jump 5, correct? I definitely thought I was supposed to use the right arm here. Oops!

We are still working on my timing of decel to get decent turns when I’m not at a distance.

Because I doubt I’ll get to set this again we tried sequence two on her third turn. But, she was hot and tired and this is all we got done.

    These are such useful skills!

    Hi Tracy,

I’ve been practicing the smiling at strangers on our dog walks. Most people smile back. But, a few avoid my gaze and act like they can’t see me. It’s an interesting social experiment!

Also, I’m playing the sense game. I’m pretty good at things I can see, hear or touch. But, taste and smell are harder. Luckily, the air is pretty clean now do I’m not smelling smoke. Sometimes the canals near me smell. So, how dies the taste and smell part work? If your aren’t eating or drinking, then there isn’t much taste.

    Hi Tracy,

This weeks courses require more space and equipment than I own or can drag to the park. The barrier requires about 3 jumps of wings. Friday is the only day my training site is empty.

I seem to have forgotten how to do a throw back. Rear cross wraps are hard for me and we struggled with that. The jumps started at 20, but Gemma ran afterwards and is at 16. So, I just left them at 16 for her second turn.

    Hi Tracy,

Sprite couldn’t do the threadke yesterday so I tried to set a mini either or course in the backyard. I’m in glasses due to contact lens issues so that is definitely different and makes my peripheral vision even more challenging.

I trained the threadle mostly with my arm back, but I’m wondering if a cross arm might be useful here?

Is there something different I can do to help her?

    Hi Tracy

Here’s the live exercises. It’s pretty hot in the mid 80s and both of us got tired. It took me awhile to build the course in the hot sun snd wrestle with a heavy 20 ft tunnel. Gemma ran, then Sprite for the warm up and exercise 1 and 2. Then, Gemma and Sprite again. We need to revisit threadles. I couldn’t get the turn and she was too hot to work on it. The last exercise she’s pretty hot and mentally fried. So, I’ll see if I can just set a few jumps and eotk on the turn.

Thank you! I laughed at your “big mad” comment. Gemma has definite opinions and is happy to express them always. Thanks for letting me show a clip.

I’m giving Sprite a few days off from jumping and can get 4-5 jumps and a tunnel in the car for the park sometime this week. Do you think the live exercises would be best or the pop outs?

    Thanks Tracy,

I didn’t think about a reverse spin on 12. But, I did feel like 11-15 required a lot of patience and I was waiting with no place to go. Here is a snippet of Gemma. The whiskey worked well for her. The German in the full course created a wide turn although she was on course. But, that was both of our last runs. I might have been tired. Both dogs are resting today! Mistily my blinds are more timely with Gemma. Can you believe she’s 10?
